Lemmy feels less anonymous than Reddit, because there are less users and its easier to be remembered. Similar to a small town where everyone knows each other.

User tags make recognizing people a lot easier. I see tagged users a lot. Voyager even keeps a running total of how many times I have upvoted and downvoted particular users.
There’s one user I have at like -30, tagged as a Nazi apologist. And sure enough, every time I scroll past them, they’re commenting some weird BS.

Having a pfp greatly increases my recognition of other users. So you're already proving more recognizable than most users who have none.

Whether or not that actually hurts my own statement, I'll leave it for the others to decide. I think posting/comment volume + striking username (and profile picture) + unique voice = recognizability. I think only have one of three, so... IDK!

Not just that, but they also use those tagging extensions in case they have an opportunity to bring up some shit from the past because they have nothing better to do than to keep tabs on everyone like it matters. Very normal and stable people.

Voyager enhances his effect by counting your votes on individuals. You start seeing people with big numbers.
I miss that from reddit enhancement suite. I like seeing who I interact with and who interacts with me. I occasionally browse comment activity here on mbin to get a bit of an idea of it.

Even without usernames. There is some people i recognize by topic, opinion and the way they express themselves. If you spend too much time here that isn't difficult.
Even when it's some asshole who's always wrong, I try to remind myself that we're all helping to build a free alternative to corporate social media.
Doesn't help that its the same font size as the comments. Also profile pics, most on reddit don't use profile pics.
And also special fonts that sometimes make it stand out, bigger, and different color.

I think the internet at large should be viewed this way and the Fediverse is no exception. It’s almost impossible to completely get rid of anything that isn’t under your direct and immediate control - i.e. your own personal email server. I don’t assume that Lemmy/Fediverse is any different.
That said, with the effort to be ”not Reddit” or just another social media platform ready to be potentially abused, focus should be placed on privacy and user ownership and their ability to control their data on the platform.
Its easier to edit than to delete. So if you want something gone you should edit it first

Btw, your PMs being available to admins is the same on like every socmed. If you have to use lemmy as your secure method of communication (you shouldn't), at least use PGP, but lemmy isn't meant for that, use XMPP or Matrix or even Signal I guess.

Doesn't change the voting situation. Since your votes need to be seen by other instances, Lemmy needs a mechanism for federating votes. Since instances are untrusted, there needs to be some way of preventing manipulation. Thus, AFAIK, Lemmy simply shares your votes across instances, letting each one tally them up. As a side effect, any server admin of an instance you can interact with can also get a list of all your votes.

That’s why I keep making new accounts every time the last one hits around 1,000 comments. I already recognize quite a few users here who’ve only written around 3,000 comments total - so by that metric, if I’d just kept using my first account, I’d probably be instantly recognizable to a ton of people by now.
I love being able to have the small-forum feeling of my home instance but also feeling connected to communities elsewhere.
From my experience there is only one poster. They are very angry.

And yeah yeah, I know about evolution of language and common usage, and all that crap. But it really does just boil down to the fact that fewer sounds more elegant when the object is plural. ie: "There are usually fewer unexpected costs associated with new home ownership", vs "There is usually less unexpected cost associated with new home ownership" (Both are correct in their given context)

Yes. But in 99.9 percent of cases, it also happens to be plural, so my eternal hope is that if it can be grasped as "If there's as 's', use 'fewer'", maybe more people would get it.
This specific case isn't really to do with the evolution of language, more just ineffective linguistic prescriptivism. Some guy 200 years ago decided they didn't like how "less" had been used for the past millennium so they made up a guideline for what the preferred (like what you just said) then people decided to treat that as an actual rule. Obviously it's still common to use "less" that way even after a couple of centuries of people trying to enforce that rule, it's a good demonstration of how prescriptivism is a waste of time.
Strangely enough, in my experience many prescriptivists who rely on etymological arguments are fine with language changing for this one rule. Makes me think they never really did care about historic usage of a word.
It all just comes down to preference, but what a lot of people prefer is being able to express slightly different concepts clearly.
