Who's Trudeau bringing to the next White House sit down?

Silly answers only. We need a laugh or two in spite of another day of stupid news.

White House official threatens to redraw Canadian border
  • I like the energy but we need Americans to clean up their own yard while it’s still safe to do so.

Nut jobs think that they’re the majority because they are behaving boorishly in public and nobody is holding them to account. The quiet majority needs to organize and show them that undesirable actions have proportional and consistently negative consequences.

That could mean a lot of things. Big things like being a trans ally and showing up for demonstrations. Small things like not inviting your MAGA uncle to family occasions. But things they must be. The jackboots are winning because people are typing anger into a box then staying home to shop and watch Netflix reality TV.

  • Trump on Wayne
  • I see the length and the first few words and I just skip these now. The anger isn’t worth the read because you can’t even trust that he’ll do what he even threatens to do.

  • Trump says he will hit Canada with 25% tariff next week after month-long pause
  • Short term pain for long term gain, I hope. The more he makes life miserable and expensive for highly skilled workers the more likely we’ll achieve a reverse brain drain.

They’re going after women’s autonomy and trying to roll back gay marriage. Imagine if even 5% of those doctors moved to our side of the border.

  • Trump threatens tariffs on any nation that taxes Big Tech
  • Part of the reason why I’ve recommended US based services to my Canadian clients was because of its speed due to proximity. Now that net neutrality has been gutted and ISPs are free to artificially slow down their services a la carte, the speed advantage is questionable. Now I recommend services in Canada where I find them and European alternatives when no closer ones are available.

  • What would happen if Americans stopped buying new consumer goods for a month?
  • The Day the World Stops Shoppong examined this and found that it doesn’t take a whole lot of concerted action to tank the consumption economy.

Buy nothing days are good but less good if you return to regular habits and redouble your consumption after the boycott is over.

  • Watch Out. The Plague Years Start Now
  • I always thought the only reason they can choose to charge so much is because countries respected pharmaceutical patents. In a trade war the PM could just say that they won’t be enforcing any domestic generic drug copies.
