I don’t know if it’s unbelievable good or unbelievable bad from the title.
Having gone through their post history, they're generally very appreciative of simple things and beautiful sights, so I'd assume unbelievably good =)
You are correct. I can't believe we actually did it. (We're back now.)
Wholesome internet stalking
(I use the word "stalking" in jest. I am amused because usually when one has cause to "stalk" a user's post history, it's because there's some drama or dirt that turns up. I always feel awkward and a bit vulnerable when I reflect on how people can peruse your post history at will, but I find the wholesomeness of this subverts the anxiety I usually feel at this prospect. It's scary that we can quickly find enough to summarise a person's online presence, but "generally very appreciative of simple things and beautiful sights" is a lovely thing to be, and makes me wonder how I would come across at a glance. Good, I hope — because it turns out that it is possible to have positive conversations with internet strangers)
The important thing these days is: it must be Instagram worthy. That's all that matters.
You could say that's all that mattress? ... I..I show myself out
The picture's not terribly Instagram worthy, but it looks like a really cool trip and I'd love to do that.
Ugh... Right.... Today I was at a place with my partner and a group of younger (not as in young, just younger than us) girls behind us. They were talking about some place they were familiar with and how cute it was, how they hadn't been there in so long
"That's like the most instagramable place ever!" I swear I could see the back of my skull, that's how hard my eyes rolled
Told my partner, "I guess we judge places by how instagram worthy they are.." Their reply, "so cringe"
I guess that depends on whether said orangutans are brachiators or swingers? 🤷🏼♂️
Being swingers doesn't guarantee they'll wwnt to fuck OP though
Probably matters more whether mosquitoes are a problem in that area.
Also depends on the community. Some would be like: OMG, obviously, the mattress cover has not been ironed!
how can you look at that and not immediately know if they mean unbelievable negatively?
If there are no insects and the weather is warm enough, then this is amazing.
It’s not posted to some flavor of disappointing/rage community. You don’t see many negative things posted to a general pics sub.
I’d not be happy with that spot, but I can see how some people who don’t think things through could think it’s dope before actually sleeping a night there.
Because their phrasing is ambiguous and I think that would be an amazing vacation. Don't you?
I think that it looks great but it doesn’t look big on privacy so I think that my wife would be a bit concerned about that.
Welcome, fellow travelers. I'll be your tour guide.
Yeah, I was thinking "I hope they left you a mosquito net!"
So efficient. You can donate blood while sleeping
They'll be using mosquito spirals, they're really effective.
Except in the wind
That's not a bed. That's a buffet table for mosquitos.
Shows how much you get out of the United States there’s no way that isn’t covered with mosquito netting
But... There's none in the pic.
And an open invitation to be robbed, kidnapped or worse
I don't think this is the United States. So they should be save.
It’s Borneo not Manila.
Might want to get a mosquito net.
That's the least of their worries! They might want to get an orangutan net! They can come right in. That's an orangutan bed if they wanted it, not their bed.
Do orangutans normally board waterborne vessels?
What if thats the goal?
Actually provided on board. Ive been to this 3 days 2 night tour. My real highlight was the firefly + star viewing
I hate mosquitos
They’re course and rough.
And they get everywhere
And they're so tough to spit out after you accidentally get a mouthful
Do the orangatans get to watch you . . you know?
…sleep.
The real vacation is in the comments.
Sure hope not. Seeing sapiens goin at it, the orangutans might become erectus.
An old song from the 90s comes to mind.
"You and me, baby, ain't nothin' but mammals, so let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel."
100% humidity + bugs + windy. It's a no from me.
Also the absolute lack of privacy. It's like having a Facebook account.
Perfect analogy of what a facebook account really is.
I can smell the mildew from here.
Mildew is happening in enclosed spaces. It's not going to be the same kinda problem here
This is the fucking dream. Would need a mosquito net, obviously, but otherwise this sounds absolutely amazing.
Does anyone have a link to this cruise?
This is the company we went with. The conditions were a bit basic, but the food was awesome and the river was one of the best experiences in my life. https://www.orangutanapplause.com/
How much does a trip like this cost?
I like how they left you towels, just in case a big wave soaks you while you sleep.
You often see big waves on riverboats?
Yes. Usually caused by other boats.
This'll need bottles of anti-bug lotion and protective clothing at the very least, and then night comes you'll have to set up mosquito netting besides electric zappers.
Your hotel room seems to be missing some walls.
There's no way that doesn't smell musty.
Meanwhile the crew is on hammocks in the engine room.
If that's where I had to sleep when I was a seaman, I'd have quit. It's like 120F in there at all times. We used to call the long hallway that went from stern to fore the Highway to Hell because the closer you got to the engine room, the hotter it was.
From the visible size of the ship, i don't think there's a engine room.
Yeah. Feels kinda weird.
Wow, obvious to me some people haven't been camping before, that or were miserable the entire time. That looks pretty freaking awesome!
It does, but I was immediately thinking that mattress would be soaked as soon as it rained or they have water coming on deck
In fact, it is quite believable imho
Are mosquitoes a concern in that part of the world? If so and they don't have some nets hiding somewhere you are gonna have a bad time.
We had a mosquito net for night, but they weren't bad. I was surprised.
Are you the same guy who posted pictures of Java. I think it was on some train
Yup. Traveled through SE Asia.
You stop by VN?
...to see orangutans to feel mosquitos
Wow!!
I think I'd really love this.
@Quilotoa@lemmy.ca what did this cost?
his and his wife dignity
please keep us updated on the conditions of this, its hilarious
I just did this 3 weeks ago. They give you mosquito nets for the night, and they weren’t that bad anyway. The trip is worth.
you sure the orgatans are not the ones who paid to see you?
How was the rain? We're still in the wet season.
Orangutan? The most dangerous animal known to man!
Just don't call him an ape. Fuuuck!!!
