  • I prefer that money be used for housing. People are mad the games are cancelled but how much angrier would people be if he wasted 6-7 billion for 12 days of athletics.

  • Lizzo was amazing again ❤️ I struggled with the fact that a lot of the people in my section just did not stand up! It's Lizzo, it's dance music, you gotta stand, dance, and enjoy...so I did. Lol. I did sit more for this one then Mondays concert though. Is this standard for concerts? Because for both Lorde and Harry, we stood the entire time.

    • I think it depends from artist to artist. If I had to generalise - the older the crowd, the more likely people in the seats are going to sit for the entire concert. Lorde and Harry would attract a younger crowd, Lizzo an older crowd. I don't understand how people can sit through a pop/dance/rock/upbeat music concert and so I'll typically get GA tickets.

      • True, it could definitely be that, noticed a lot of parents with children, both young children and adult children that perhaps would prefer to sit. Thankfully the stands are tiered so no one other than the people beside me are standing at my level behind me (and I'm shortish) so I don't think I obstructed too many peoples views or at least I hope not.

    • Sometimes ppl purchase seated tickets cos they can’t stand for a period of time (disability/ fatigue/ chronic health issues/ sore feets from working all day…). If you wanna do more than dance/ enjoy while seated, select GA tix?

      • That is true, I hadn't considered that side of things. I would've got GA but they sold out before I could. And I chose still have a seat because whilst I wanted to stand and dance during the concert, I didn't love the idea of being sandwiched between a bunch of people as I overheat easily and struggle to regulate my temperature. It was just interesting observing the differences in even just the seated areas of crowds. Some sections were all standing and others weren't.

  • Oh no. The Bad Feels (blood rushing to face, starting to feel congested like you're about to cry) started to happen and I've been left hanging after a conversation. Burying my face in the cat isn't helping. What do. I'd eat a pizza if I had any appetite. Maybe I'll shut off the world and get into a good book like I keep threatening to. My eyes are getting too tired for TV...

  • The man is watching Enter The Dragon. The way he sits there like he hasn't watched it 20 times is pretty impressive.

  • It has been a rather lovely day today. Six hours work this morning, plus a bit of online shopping for some new shoes. This afternoon I was actually able to get outside in the sunshine and do some planting and weeding. Mr Woof got three walks, so he's pretty happy, and Miss Meow is currently enjoying some lap time (purring like a little engine). Pork rissoles and tray baked vegetable are on the menu for dinner. Plus I don't have to work tomorrow so don't need to get up at any particular time in the morning. I am judging today a success. 🙂

  • Bit over ordering Didi or Uber 20 minutes before work and they rock up so I'm late to work. So I'm finally contacting a driving instructor who is good for folks with adhd/anxiety so I can get my P's. I guess now I have to save up for a car.

    • It made all the difference to me. Was a long journey before I became confident behind the wheel but it was 100% worth it. Which part of Melbourne are you in, I might have a recommendation.

  • I changed my phone wallpaper, font and icon style last night and it feels like I got a new phone! That scratches that little itch I had. The hardware of my phone is still excellent so there's no need to get a new one.

    • Sexy indeed....but Edge as a browser?

      • Yeah I'm full Edge these days. Works well having the same browser ecosystem across all of my PCs and phone. I even have my default search engine set to Bing as a trial (to take full advantage of the Bing Chat AI feature) but that might be going back to Google soon. Bing isn't quite there yet, even though I do like the Bing Chat AI.

  • Hey what do you people think of Dan's decision to axe the com games?

    • I think this is a very important turning point in Australian politics. For the first time ever the good of the common people have been prioritised over business.

None of this crap about job creation we would get from the LNP. The facts are plain, games are a cost and the losers are the people.

And we can't justify it as being a PR exercise in the Cold War, we aren't in the Cold War anymore, it's turned into a hot war that we backing .

    • Great call, and it's annoying the media outlets are by-and-large trying to make it an even bigger deal than I feel it needs to be. I understand that a few sports stars are put out, and regionally speaking it hurts some areas in some respects - but we could be fucking celebrating the fact that a fiscally responsible decision was made, and one that should still provide benefits that are needed more (like housing) compared with the cheap Olympics ripoff the Comms games are.

    • Strong indifference.

    • I'd honestly completely forgot we were throwing it for a bit there heh.

I hope it sparks discussion about the obscene costs and requirements involved with other sporting events too (it won't though probably).

    • In the current financial climate, I somewhat respect it. But struggle to care much about it.

    • My friends only became aware of it when the cancellation announcement was made.

    • I don't really have much interest in the Commonwealth games and if it's going to be a massive loss in budget I'd rather go without it.

Could also do without all the intense media coverage too.

    • I forgot we were hosting it, but I'm glad the funds allocated are being assigned to more pressing issues. I think Dan made the right call.

About the games specifically, I do not care who hosts it. I haven't cared about the Commonwealth Games for over a decade.

    • I think for Andrews it's a "damned if you do damned if you don't" situation where the media are concerned. Honestly the media in this country by and large deserves a severe lashing; all reactions and sensationalism and little analysis, absolutely pathetic. I agree with the decision, and was a bit surprised we were going to host it to begin with.

  • Fuck. One last bit of paperwork from my old workplace and I'm finally free of it. I'm still undecided as to whether I'll take a bunch of further action against them or not. I have nothing to gain and being vindictive is not in my nature. Justice however is a different matter. I'll seek some psuedo legal advice from one of my best friends who practised law for a long time, he's also been a life coach, mentor and father figure and I've always taken his advice, as it's usually so good.

Walked nearly 10ks yesterday. The body is getting used to it slowly. This sprained wrist is only healing very slowly and may be getting worse again. I bought a better support for it but the new job and constant use of my hands outside it means it's going to be a long haul I think.

Working again today and who knows when for the rest of the week. I'll manage financially for the time being and with any luck won't have to touch my savings. Just going to have live frugally for a while, which is fine. I have almost everything I need, so stopping having a disposable income won't be a big deal. Just have to quit wearing make up and buying expensive skin care products, which is also fine. There's peer pressure from other trans women a lot I find to "pass" meaning people can't know you're trans. It's bullshit pure and simple as far as I'm concerned. I'm happy that for some people that's what they want for themselves, but I've never bought into gender stereotypes and I'm not about to be bullied into starting buying into them. It's also really important to be visible at the moment I think as well. I'm not winning friends by being direct about my response to this, but I'm done with trying to be a people pleaser.

Thanks for reading, journalling here is therapy and its good to be regular with it so I can look back over this time down the track and see what I was doing and feeling and such....

    Kthxbyte xo

    • One aspect of the old workplace situation might bear some consideration. Making a complaint or whatever, is the effect such has on the person that treated you so badly. Not a personal effect, but on the formal record. This makes it more possible for future employees of that person to have some warning of what that person has done before and might do again. So it's harder for the nasty person to say "I'm not the nasty person, it was them over there". One could call this an act of charity rather than being vindictive. Legal advice sounds like a good starting point to me.

      • Pretty soon I'll have the final paperwork sorted, so I'll phone the lgbtqia+ legal service for advice as well. The nightclub industry is rife with illegal behaviour. The culture of sexual harassment is gross and I brought it up with them many times and their failure to do anything emboldened a staff member to harass and sexually assault me. It wasn't a particularly bad assault but I'll also likely report that to police as it was the crux of all the issues and thier reluctance to take it seriously was a terrible lack of due process. While that didn't happen at work, it happened immediately after in my car, when I was giving them a fucking lift home. Also most the bullshit happened after I came out as trans.

  • Small insignificant rant. I browse news.com.au. I'm not going to apologise. I want to know if anyone's died or if anything has been recalled. I don't bother about any of the other shit. Occasionally though something might catch my eye. Which brings me to my next rant.

Macca's. Now I love a cheese burger, filet-o-fish and nuggets like any other little piggy but when times are tough and all you have to offer is your shitty little sauces I have to ask "is that it?". How about bringing back your loose change menu? How about your 24 nuggets for $10? Stop with the crumb throwing. Show as a decent deal.

    • They may do it every now and then but not permanently. Unless you’re using the Maccas app (which I hear sometimes has nice deals? Idk I don’t use it, just heard from other people) Maccas isn’t cheap anymore. And I’m not talking inflation, it stopped being the quick cheap fast food option about 3-4 years ago? Maybe more 3? I only eat Maccas if I’m craving for something in particular like occasionally a Big Mac or filo o fish or apple pie. Heck have you seen how expensiv, if you like the taste of the cookies just get a packet of malt o milk at colesworth, they taste quite similar. They’re about the same price (cheaper on sale, so grab a few) they just won’t have the Maccas character etched on it.

      • I use the hungry jacks app with the shake and win.

Sometimes you can get a BBQ cheeseburger for a dollar if you get lucky.

Maccas has some horrible deals on it, also some of them are personalised to your spending habits so some people hold multiple accounts to get deals by leaving it inactive for a few months.

    • I agree about the maccas menu.

It’s not great value for money, especially since the other day I got that tin of herring and slapped it between two pieces of bread and that was cheaper than buying a cheese burger.

That ton of herring alone had more meat in it than a maccas cheeseburger has which is really sad.

I do miss the loose change days where you could grab something for a dollar.

I recently ate a cheeseburger from maccas because it was a birthday freebie and it was pretty sad and small.

      • I just think that a billion dollar company should be giving us a little bit more than "try our new sauces". How about a good deal to go with those sauces you tight-arses?

    • 24 nuggets is $11.95.. that's pretty good

  • There’s nothing wrong with rewatching shows/movies if you really enjoy it. Just starting on a rewatch (lost count) of The Mist (2007)… and no I do not recommend the series that came out in 2017

    • I always rewatch things. It's a comfort thing.

    • Same with audiobooks for me. I always listen while drifting off to sleep. First run through is fun and interesting, then repeats are more soothing and I don't mind I'm missing bits, pay less attention, and fall asleep easier

      • See for me personally I can’t do audiobooks, wish I could but I can’t listen and do other stuff. Music is different as I know the lyrics so I can listen or sing and not pay attention. With audiobooks I need to listen to what’s been said, and if I’m paying attention to what’s said I may as well just read a physical book or e-book. Plus I find most audiobook speakers to be boring. And I know you can always rewind the audiobook if I miss bits but yeah I still stand behind physical or e book instead, which is what I’ve been doing

    • Yay Thomas Jane!

    • I keep rewatching movies all the time without shame and tv shows too.

  • So my boss was interviewing people the other day for the other role at our job. And so we had a new person come in today and she's nice, found out she lives near me so she offered to give me a ride to and from work which is great.

But I found out that my boss had to let her go (after like 2 1/2 hours of work). I think it's just because she wasn't understanding quickly what my boss was explaining. Like I don't know the exact ins and outs but yeah. Apparently I set the bar high.

Was pretty keen to get a lift to and from work.

    • 2.5 hours?? That seems wildly unreasonable

      • Yeah, that seems awfully fast to get rid of someone.

      • Unless they're completely useless and any longer would be a waste of everyone's time.

        Maybe.

      • Yeah I'm not too sure why. Again, I don't know about the ins and outs when it comes to why. But yeah I was pretty shocked.

I mean I imagine it was a trial like what I had. But yeah I was surprised after 2.5hrs. I didn't pick it up quickly but 🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻

  • With the whole Hollywood strike going on it got me thinking - there is SO much content that if something weird were to happen whereby no more movies or TV shows were to ever be made, I'd be fine with the sheer amount of content that has been generated up to this day. Like, if some weird, I don't know, space temporal displacement happened whereby Hollywood (or hell, anyone - BBC, Australian TV, etc.) were able to make anything else then there is enough content available for a lifetime regardless.

Obviously in saying that it would mean an entire industry would be out of work permanently... so this hypothetical situation has massive economic pressures as well. But still... this strike could go on for years and I'd still be playing catch up.

    • The sad truth is there isnt much interesting coming out these days either. The current season of the Witcher is almost unwatchable. Secret Invasion is "Meh" at best. Silo was disappointing. I couldn't tell you the last thing we loved, beyond probably Picard? But even that had a horrible first 2 seasons. Grand Tour Eurocrash was ok. I am excited about Thank God You're Here though.

    • I've done so many rewatches of things, that I've missed out on a heap of newer content.

It's not a bad place to be. And I figure, should this strike continue, I'll be ready to rewatch stuff again.

Or go back to reading. Actually making progress through 2 different books right now and watching less during the week.

      • We're re-watching Supernatural. Had watched the original seasons 1-5 years ago and shat on the idea of the show continuing after the show runner was like "nope, my plan was always 5 seasons so I won't be staying on", only to turn around after the show's continued success and go "actually this is really cool I want back in." So yeah, 15 seasons at about 2-3 episodes a week is going to take us quite a while. And that's just one show. I saw the thread on Monday where you were talking about that show Justified and I was like "shit, that sounds like a cool show" so that's now on the list. Good thing that list is digital as I'd have to fell a whole forest for the parchment required to write the list out.

    • It's ART. Content is a product you find in cereal boxes.

    • Sadly I'm on rewatches because I watch way too much content and have gobbled up just about every half decent show/movie in each genre I like. In good news.. new Justified today woo!

      • Rewatches are also great - I want to go back and watch things like Legion, as that's definitely a show that I feel would give a huge amount of benefit the second-time around. I'm also on my third run of Shorsey which I watch when doing cardio, and that's only after running through Letterkenny a secondtime.

I saw you mention Justified the other day and hadn't heard of it, but I'm going to start that soon. Looks like a really cool show, and I love the idea of a neo-western, too.

  • Ew just found out my best friend listens to Joe Rogan's motivational stuff. She's a messy person who falls pray to bullshit quite often so I can only imagine she's hanging on every toxic unhelpful word he says.

    • I listen to some of these podcasts just to hear what the fuss is about, to learn about what my fellow humans are doing and why and ... I am amazed such intelligent people, like Rogan and Peterson, can believe such a lot of shite when the facts are so easy to find. It must take some real deep distrust of government to discard what is plain in front of your eyes.

I will say this positive thing about those popular broadcasters, they are kind and caring and insightful regarding the pressures endured by working class men and they don't call them deplorable. This is why they are popular.

      • Did you read this article too? https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/07/10/christine-emba-masculinity-new-model/

There's a huge problem and JP has found a way to exploit it.

      • they are kind and caring and insightful regarding the pressures endured by working class men

Joe's net worth is $120m and Jordan $8m. Not really sure that they care about the working class, other than to elicit Patreon donations from them.

You're right tho, they are intelligent people, they have both worked out that there is a cohort of disenfranchised young men (always has been) that, if communicated to in a certain way, can be used to build their audience. Bigger audience = more ad revenue, books and speaking tours.

So working class men are being told by these millionaires that traditional masculinity is in decline, that women have too much power these days, and minority interests threaten their very existence. LGBTQ, BLM, Equal Rights are all out to get the traditional 'man'. It's nonsense. These movements have been around for decades in one form or another, we just live in a time when some people can amplify and monetise the myth.

  • Still cooked dinner even though I got home late from work and felt super tired. A lazier me would have just gotten take out. Bolognese with garlic bread hit the spot. I’m now too full to clean the kitchen.

  • Starting to feel a little more human today, but aside from doing some washing, am forcing myself to continue resting in case I undo all of the good work my resting is doing. Just hoping for some sunshine so I can lie in it for a bit.

  • A bit of a chilly start to the day. 3.4 degrees outside, but at last it is not wet or windy, so with a jacket on the dog walk wasn't too painful. Looking forward to some sun later. 🌞

    • I don't know if it's just me but I'm really struggling with the cold weather more than other times this year.

      • The cold this year does seem to have a special ability to suck the heat from everything else quickly too.

  • Idiot manager was away yet again, so we managed to get productive things done and even have a bit of fun. If only they were ill enough to retire…

  • Can The Artist (Formerly Known as Prince)'s estate get it together and let Spotify play this song please ffs

  • Poor boyo has a major Sad. The cat he left with the ex has died. Major flailing because he loved her muchly but hasn’t been involved in more than passing for a decade. 😿

  • Onto more 60s/70s music. Serge Gainsbourg is one of those artists I know I've heard somewhere and his influence is so pervasive across so many genres that it's basically a base flavour. But I never followed him up until now (yeah I know it's like not knowing the Beatles or something).

I couldn't believe Bonnie And Clyde - that smart backing loop with the whoop sounds like something out of the 2000s not the 1960s. And listening to Histoire de Melody Nelson is like going "oh THAT'S where all the trip hop and.... oh... oh wow it all started from here".

But my god I'm glad I don't understand the French lyrics. Between the awful treatment of women in his life, not crediting other artists (especially African sources) and the frankly vomit inducing hebephilia he's definitely one of those artists I wonder how to separate the artist from the work.

  • Dinner was V2 vegan "meat" in a muffin with mayo tomato sauce and a bit of uncooked mushroom. There are three left. I stopped eating cheese, drinking beer and having normal breaded stuff since I wanted to lose weight.

I have such a weird relationship with food since nearly everything I ate at the last place was either the reduced whatever from woolies or veges I grew myself and made into stew. Can't be bothered with spending an hour prepping for just me.

I live vicariously through all of your lovely food pics and kinda drool sometimes.

  • I’ve been listening to Porgy and Bess. It’s time for something quite different

    • omg, It's LP listening day today and I'm about to listen to the original soundtrack LP with Sydney Poitier and Dorothy Dandridge 😀

    • the Cleo Laine version? imo the absolute best.

  • My past hardwork and painful toil,
\ For me to sit here like a gargoyle
\ Perched upon my gaming throne,
\ Though in my hands is my phone.
\ With speakers hooked up to my PC,
    \ Playing music quite easily,
\ I'm gazing down into my palm,
\ At another way to keep me calm.
\ I like to play mobile games,
    \ I don't pay 'cause that's quite lame.
\ Am I still a real true gamer?
    \ I once questioned it
    \ Because of my vagina...
\ But decided that it didn't matter,
\ Because I didn't use it to game with.
    \ But now I wonder,
\ My bits weren't the problem
\ But perhaps it's this mobile platform.
    \ ...
    \ I decide I don't care, I like Match 3,
    \ What's the trouble?
\ I'll perch here if I want, and keep playing Pokemon Shuffle!

    • my current match three game is fishdom

      • I loved fishdom but then I had so many tanks and every single design possible, I lost interest

      • Bubble Town ( stuck on level 49 for a few years ) Mahhjong Quest ( only got a few frames left, stuck on 3rd level for about a year )

      • oooo I'll check it out! I'm a bit hooked after playing Jewel 2 (stupid microsoft solitaire collection lol). I was playing Oddz Galaxy, the ads arent too intrusive or long. And then I realised there was pokemon shuffle, and as a big phat pokemon fan, well, it was a must lol

        I have been looking for more, so thankyou! 💜 💜 😍 😍
