Daily Thread: Friyay 30th of June 2023
Woo Hoo!!!! Bot progress.
A few more tweaks before I can do the daily thread reliably, but the main hurdle has been overcome. It's alive!
I'll be honest and say I quite enjoyed the chaos of who's gonna make the daily thread.
It has been good - plus seeing the various thread names people come up with. Although I suspect it will become less enjoyable over time and more of a hassle.
There will still be at least a couple more days before it is operational, and a high chance of glitches for a while require a manual backup thread to be made.
controlled chaos is fun
Fantastic news! I think a small to medium celebration is called for. Would anyone else care to join me in hoisting a glass (of preferred beverage) to our Mod Rusty Raven?

awesome 😘😘😘
🏅
Thanks so much for your tireless work Raven.
Thanks for the update! and your efforts! I’m still doing crazy clock punch editions every day though ⏰🥊
Don't worry, your work will not be replaced by bots.
Unless you decide to leave the community, in which case I reserve the right to use all of your past posts to create an AI powered chatbot that will replace you with no one being the wiser. It'll be like a creepy horror movie where all the real people are replaced one by one, until a small group discover something isn't right, form a resistance movement and begin to fight back. Eventually they will be victorious, the bots will be destroyed and the group will continue, smaller and wiser, but free to chat and post knowing that they are connected to real people and not bots. Then the viewpoint will change, and viewers will be shown that all of the people who have been replaced are now living in the real world, connecting with each other over dinner instead of through screens, happily living lives full of real connections and achievements. The bots had in reality been freeing people from their addiction to to the cyber world, and by destroying them the movie's protagonists had trapped themselves forever.
So update to the eye patch saga - my bf came to pick me up for dinner last night wearing a pirate hat. Love his sense of humour. I then wore the pirate hat to work this morning, just to really lean into this. It's been a great laugh, thankfully my eye is already feeling much better and the hat is now just a decoration on my desk.
my eye is already feeling much better
Fortunately! Or else not only will you have to wear a pirate hat. You'll have to surgically replace your left hand with a hook.
Q: Why is pirating so addictive? A: They say once ye lose yer first hand, ye get hooked!
If people ask what happened you should say you lost an eye in a game of gin rummy. Eye eye.
So far I've claimed shark attack, Toby finally losing his cool and also just "Dragon."
Reading through my second full draft of my thesis. And you know what? Sometimes, sometimes I can be really smart.
I also won $500 presenting my research yesterday, which was great. Promptly had to spent $200 of it on petrol and two (2) make up products, which was not so great.
Sometimes is really good. :) Congrats on the success of your hard work. 🥂
Thank you! I’m so close to obnoxiously making everyone I know call me Doctor, I can taste it
So today I got a pay rise and am celebrating with ginger beer for grown ups while I wait for the grocery delivery. Am feeling very grateful, fortunate and appreciated.
Yay for you! Well done.
That's a win. Congratulations 🎉
Congrats 🥳 and well done!
Winning in life🍺
Congrats!!! What a great present for the end of the week!
🥳🤗
Nice
Was hearing stories of people 'queuing for 10 hours' for Taylor Swift tickets only to realise they meant somehow queuing online for that time? You know *back in my day * I camped outside the ticketek office overnight to get Nine Inch Nails concert tickets - ah how times change!
Hah.... My glory days story is camping out for Neil Young tickets at some random chemist/Ticketmaster outlet in the north. Ended up 5th town centre at the Myer Music Bowl and it was the jam. That and happening upon a free ticket to RATM as I walking around Festival Hall. That was a life changing show ...
It was a simpler time! I remember my housemate had came home from a night out and I convinced her to stay up and queue for last release Big Day Out tickets at 6am. I think she regretted it once she got there but she ended up getting a ticket and we all had an awesome time so - worth it in the end! Pretty sure it was when Beastie Boys were headlining.
My sister got into those tickets but it timed out early so she wasn’t able to buy them in time! So close but missed out!
Just wanted to report in and say my #2's are finally back to normal.
Been almost 3 weeks. You have no idea how happy that makes me (and 4kgs lighter).
Let's talk about cutlery. I have my favourites. Some of them were lost during the Great Lockdown. Some have gone AWOL in the abyss which is the teenager's bedroom. Some come staggering home wary from whatever horrors they've been a part of. Always to a warm welcome and a very hot bath.
I got told "You're weird. Nobody counts their knives and forks". I said "You're wrong because Nana does".
My favourite bit of cutlery are a set of japanese steak knives. They have a classy wooden handle and the blades are crisp 25 yrs on. Proper stainless steel. Zero rust. Precision engineering.
take a picture!
They sound absolutely divine. A good steak knife is a friend for life.
Sets of thai bronze and ebony cutlery , some are bamboo style, some have an embossed temple goddess, some elephants, they are so nice to use I should use them more
for everyday I just use an italian stainless steel set .
I have a fave old german kitchen knife , hideously expensive, double edged so it cuts straight down , young seagoon broke the tip ( he busted a whole heap of stuff while he was here 🤔 )
I have a Spork I love and this like small knife with flowers on it. We used to have two sporks but now we have one. If I lose the knife I don't think I can live on...
(I joke but that knife is my fave).
Oh a missing soldier. MIA.
Cutlery were another thing I decided I'd replace when I moved. Woolies had a set and they are just fine. My son bought me a Victonox chopping knife for xmas one year though, which is awesome. Still sits in its plastic cover.
I had a very good knife, I got from Japan just mysteriously vanish.
No trace of its disappearance at all, and it wasn't found during end of lease cleaning.
I hope one day you do find it hidden amongst shit that you'd never guess.
So caught the bouquet throwing at the wedding I went to and I'd like to talk strategy.
If the ceiling is low your best bet is being up the front.
PeelerSheila you have inspired me tonight. I was tempted to skip my planned workout and do a quick dodgy dinner, but thought to myself "if PeelerSheila can peel 80kg of potatoes, and manage to keep to an exercise routine, I can manage one dinner and a few sets of weights". And I did, healthy dinner made & heavy things lifted repeatedly. 💪
Doodles in the sun - now time for some lunch
Wow, I think I've finally established some kind of regular routine to life. What a fucking year it's been. Looking forward to enjoying the regularness of a new life I worked pretty hard to set up, sober and female. My adhd seems to have settled down a lot now I've cut back on caffiene, no booze and better levels of oestrogen in my bloodstream.
I do aa, play with my cats, make food, do a little exercise and waste time on the internet. I need to start looking for work, but I have very few usable skills which don't pertain the the music industry. My sister's eap extends to immediate family and they do career counselling so I'm calling them on Monday. Jobs victoria also, and then try and get another look into doing one of these carer trainesships. I don't want to have to become a cleaner or dishpig so someone who can identify my strengths would be excellent.
At least I've been active work wise while I've been on leave with all the volunteering. Meh, 15 years of two nights a week for a good wage and now I'll be back to full time to get close to that again. I don't think it will be a bad thing though, all that free time just led me to substance abuse time and again. Being trans has been such a great opportunity for complete re-invention and enabled me to look after and love myself properly for the first time in my life, so I'm gonna be ok. thx for reading, and thanks everyone for following my journey both here and before on reddit. I've felt such wonderful things and made a couple of new friends from the people who've replied and engaged. It even seems like my downvoters have disappeared.
This is awesome, you really seem to be finding your true stride in life. I love your updates about your journey!
Thanks so much! I'm running out of things to write about. Won't be going anywhere though. This new life isn't quite complete yet but it's definitely looking kinda rosy.

After spending most of the day today and the other day patiently watching a number of devices refresh every 10 seconds, my niece managed to get 4 tickets. You could say she is a little fucking excited.
Dang. Good job. We failed here.
I was sitting next to a colleague who got tickets, and it was so exciting to experience just adjacently. I hope everyone got some! But I know plenty are probably devo.
I’m still waiting 😭
I'm about to try something which some people might consider.. unnatural. I'm going to make 2 minute noodles, 2 packs except one pack is chicken, the other beef.
They'll call me crazy. They'll say I'm unhinged. They'll say ol' Bull has finally gone too far. This is science at its most extreme and only the bold are etched into the annals of history.
UPDATE: it made both flavours worse for doing it. It wasn't bad but either flavour alone would be better. Science.
You're morally corrupt, unsalvageably so.
I am a huge fan of mixed meat meals. You'll never look back.
Science said it couldn't be done
Add sardines and no-one will notice.
What ever works for you.👍
If you're gonna go the mixed meats, don't halfass it. Where's the onion. Where's the cheese. I will accept noodles in lieu of either chips or pita, but not both.
My anxiety is stabbing me with a rough stick straight up the rectum lately. I hit up some CBD oil in the hopes it'll calm my heart down. I really hate this feeling though - trying to grab thoughts is like trying to catch a particular drop of water in a raging river.
Breath. Slow and deep. And let it all fall apart. Everything thats wrong let it be wrong. Dont try hold things together, if you wanna break down you break down. Every time I do it Im terrified I'll never pull myself back together again, but every time I manage to. And its never as bad as it actually seems.
I described it as feeling like standing at the side of a road with lots of cars going rushing past, and you've tensed up cause you have to cross the road and you dont want to get it, but you've tensed to the point that the pressure is far worse than what getting hit but the car would actually feel like. course, that's just my experience. Hope it helps a little!
Got my coffee brewed, emails answered, tunes blasting, gonna be a good day.
Now before you finish your coffee, could I interest you in a caffeinated, coffee flavoured microwaved potato instead? Today it's free of charge
Sweet Potato Coffee This is what you needed to know before making that offer.
Around 36 hours until our Reddit apps stop working.
It's going to be interesting - the protests put a dent into their operations, and while the mark is still visible it's been buffed out to the best of Reddit's ability. But losing the preferred apps... it's going to be telling whether the usual pessimistic Reddit rhetoric was smoke or if there was fire beneath it this whole time.
Was that an earthquake?
yes
@baconmash @goodviking yup that was fucking scary... where... how big?
we're in Gippsland... felt pretty strong.
I woke up halfway through, was it big, it felt pretty big here.
I didn't feel the quake. But I just want to chuck a hissy fit about it being two years in a row that EOFY has coincided with pay day (or the day after). Pay was supposed to be yesterday, I still haven't been paid and this has been my skintest fortnight. Grrrr. I know they've processed payroll but are the banks/accounting systems that overloaded that payments could be delayed this much?
E: oh well, I have enough to get me a coffee and pie when I get to Up North.
You would think payroll could have scheduled the payment a day earlier so it arrives in people’s account on time?! It’s not like they need to manually process everyone’s pay… hope it gets to you today !!
I don’t think I would ever feel an earthquake at that scale unless it happens when I’m awake😳
Honestly the way this place is run I sometimes wonder if payroll IS manually run. Admin has been an absolute shambles. I'm down to $30 and can't really keep raiding my rent account, I mean I have my savings so I certainly won't be out on the streets but this is very, very frustrating. Deep breath...
I didn't feel it either but I woke up at that time for no reason feeling ultra tired shakes fist at earthquake
Day 5 of workout. I did it, and it felt a little hard but I got through. There were more tummy/core exercises in this one so that's probably why. I hate exercising in my house because there's no room to really spread out for things like reverse snow angels.
Can i introduce you to the prison workout
Huh. I'm gonna give this more of a read once I've finished work, but it sounds promising and kinda makes sense.
I feel you on the home work out space issue. They’re the only option for me at the moment but I have to be careful not to bang my arms and legs into various items of furniture haha.
nice one. I did 2 days of exercise then broke my little toe!
Ouch!
Filming at Mount Macedon this morning so hopefully it's not going to rain and ruin it all. At least it will be a cruisy 1 hour autopilot drive which I look forward
Cool. What you filming?
I'm filming a music video, it's super foggy but cinematic!
Bloc Party!!!!
For the past month I've had the tune and beat from Banquet stuck in my head but could not remember the name of the band or the song.
Thank you!!!
Oh damn I love Bloc Party!
The beers are cold. Got the cricket and footy on the split screen (yet to start). Disco lights. Lunatics are dancing. Air Supply on the jukebox. The dog's letting off some rippers. Just like a real life local pub.
Homegirl got 12 tabs open on three devices for Taylor tix. Does that even work like that?
i got 1 tab on 1 device open. If I get it I get it.
You're going to need extra nappies that's going to take a while.
Apparently Ticketek can detect the IP address, so if it's all on the same network/device I assume that doesn't really help? Who knows though, honestly. I've seen people with multiple devices, tabs etc. get through and people with one device get through. I don't think it hurts.
ISPs using CGNAT is going to be an issue.
how's it going. No progress on my end.
Almost 1.5 hours of waiting room screen, think I'm about to throw in the towel. Nothing good will be left.
Had a crack at my own Vietnamese Com tonight. Not bad with the coles sweet soy sauce!
Mrs stupid fucking car is back again. Mechanic cant fault it, but suggested to call mazda as he suspect theres a bigger problem. Mazda confirmed its in the "troublesome era" of Mazda diesels, and they are happy to take a look.... next month when they have time. F me! told the mrs this is the LAST straw. If a fault cant be identified she is to enthusiastically endorse me selling it, since some how this has wound up being my problem yet I wanted to sell it months ago.
First thoughts this morning:
@heyheyitskay @MisssDarylC lol yeah. before I lived here I hadn't heard of it either
Same here. I was dead to the world but apparently my sister felt it. And yeah never heard of Rawson and it's closeish to me. Wild.
I'm not just not "well travelled" I suppose and new suburbs come up all the time. I didn't know Warranwood was a place on its own
Slammed it out to Shep (and a bit) and back via Yea, always a shitfight within 90 minutes of Melbourne (shout out to the insane P plate van that kept a 30cm distance from every car up to Kilmore). Tripped on site and bruised my left thigh, thankfully it's not too bad. Constantly on edge with pay not coming through, thank fuck it did. Harassed by boss about something so I had to stop via the office.
I'm finally home. I'm pooped. I've gotta drive to Point Cook on Sunday so I'm not even going to LOOK at my car tomorrow. That's enough driving for a while. Ow my leg.
Oof, that's rough. My grandparents are from Tatura, so while I haven't had the fortune to drive that, being a passenger is the worst.
Though my dad and I would make little games along the way. Whenever I see Seymour I say "you always see more at Seymour".
It's that time of the year again! Summer has hit the US which means it's now summer everywhere (totally cuz US defaultism and not because more people live in the northern hemisphere than the southern)
If you're a gamesperson, time to break out the steam sale song ( not responsible for any deaths caused by cringe overload) and go give your hard earned dollarydoos to a bunch of people who made games you have no intention of ever playing but buy because cheap
I'm looking forward to counterstrike 2 and it's a free upgrade.
How have I never seen this before? Oh my God!
Cat starts OCD drugs tomorrow. I am in very many minds about this. Love his vibrancy but eating furniture is not ok.
New to me movie for today was The Heartbreak Kid. yeah I know it's old but I hadn't seen it.
Well, that movie would have a different ending if it were made this year. I would at minimum expect an inquiry, at most jail. I suppose it hinges on if the kid can give consent.
I really have trouble seeing this as a coming of age or young woman breaks free story.
I also watched Tar with Cate Blanchett. 😲 It's a horror story and a morality tale. When you break ethical rules in a heartless thoughtless way and hurt feelings ( tho the rule breaking seems like harmless teenage drama ) you risk attracting really bad people and incurring serious consequences
I gave Tár 4 out of 5 hobbit if memory serves.
I do too. Tar built up suspense quite well. 😬
Heartbreak Kid, that gets 2.5 hobbits.
Sorry if there’s a designated area to talk Taylor but I’m struggling to scroll down here at the mo. But we had no luck getting tickets. 6 hours and 3 devices on different internet connections only to get hit with SOLD OUT. Luckily am not a mega fan just thought it’d be fun if we could get tickets. (EDIT: I mean I am somewhat of a fan obvi just not a diehard)
Father in law recently gave us his Beatles memorabilia from when they had their similarly massive concert here, which we’re having framed up so I thought it’d be cool to tell the grandkids we went one day haha. Oh well!
So there was an earthquake then. (SE Melb, didn't feel a thing).
NW Melb and I was fast asleep.
Inner city, and it woke me up. I actually checked this thread, saw my earthquake suspicions confirmed and was able to get back to sleep. But it felt a bit full on for a minute or so!!
SW Melbourne, didn't feel it either, despite being awake at the time. Didn't notice the cats doing anything out of the ordinary either, while they freaked out during the previous quake.
My best decision today was buying a big slab of baklava at lunchtime. Yummmmm.
God I love baklava. What a treat.
Fuck yeah, baklava is the best.
Covid lockdown effects.
I just don't seem to dress well anymore. I have lovely clothes, new clothes, but just can't seem to be bothered at home, it's old pants and oodie.
Tho I did have such stylish covid masks ,
They said covid affected your taste.
Here. Have a cheeky monkey award 🤓🥔🐒
Had a booster Pfizer vax yesterday and I had forgotten about all the side effects. I’m achy all over today and everything huuurts :-(
@anotherspringchicken @MisssDarylC get Novavax next time. Reports across the board are lower side effects if you are sensitive to the mRNA ones.
Well... I'm set for if my chair legs die on me.
For the past couple of weeks I've been in contact with someone at the company my computer chair is from. And last week I had an issue where I couldn't remove the chair legs from the piston and two weeks later I finally got the chair legs sent and I got sent 5 chair legs...
I'm not mad about it but I'm just confused AF.
Edit: I HAVE A SEAT! I had to use olive oil to get the wheels off of the old legs but I finally have a seat! Now I don't have to use a dining chair.
Edit²: Yep, just got an email back from the person I've been communicating with, the 5 legs was indeed an accident. Oh well. If anyone breaks their Anda Seat legs, and you need one in a pinch, then I'm your person.
Doh. You just beat me to it.
Trying to delete the one I made.
I have no authority here but I bestow the rights to creating the Saturday thread upon you.
Haha don’t worry. I think @Goddess_Amaterasu@aussie.zone might actually be the one to do it tonight.
It was only off chance that I was checking the thread and saw there wasn’t one for awhile.
Cheers cowboys and cowgirls. 🍺 yeeha
We've started off with The Drifters Save The Last Dance For Me.
Tonight's game is double ups but there's 3 artists that have 3 songs in a row so my job is to pick at least one of them for a cup of tea in the morning.
boring me is listening to screen music again, ( I've always loved screen music, been buying soundtracks since the 70s ) Today it's The Mandalorian. I love all the Morricone influence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkmgTsZinJo&list=OLAK5uy_k7Y4vzaRirT7D4XSmysa_i2AEtZ9_0-b8&index=2&ab_channel=LudwigG%C3%B6ransson-Topic

Potentially niche question, I'm looking to replace the quilt (not a doona an actual old school patterned quilt) on my bed and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? The one I have I've had for over 13 years, and it's starting to actually disintegrate, so I would like to sadly put it away for preservation. I thought about finding the same lady but it appears she's doesn't exist online (understandable she would be well into her 60s or 70s now).
Edit, price is not really a problem as long as quality is good.
Do you know what fabrics and batting are involved? And do you want to box it or turn it into a hanging?
Oh golly, I couldn't say what it's made of, my best guess is cotton. It's made of different patches of bright orange material and is very big and heavy (I bought it at the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival hence the ridiculous orange). As for hanging or boxing it, it'll be boxed, no joke so old and well loved running your hand along it to hard will cause a tear.
My sleeping is cooked. I went to sleep at 5 yesterday, then took a nap from 2-5 and another from 7-11 and now I have no need to sleep but I feel dead
Tune I've shared before but will again because it's a fucking banger: Coheed and Cambria - The Suffering
Finally got around to calling my bank to lower the interest on my mortgage account - is 6.1% good for a variable homeloan? I'm guessing not and that's still probably best to go back to the broker and find out what else is out there.
I re-financed recently - currently on 5.69%. If your current bank won't budge, shop around.
