Title is utter horseshit.
The map is only a measure of "unique searches" by people from that state on Google. Nothing to do with actual preferences, just what they searched.
- Yup. No one is searching pumpkin pie. Either you're buying it, or you know how to make it.

I call bullshit. If anyone shows up to thanksgiving with anything other than Apple or Pumpkin there's gonna be some issues.

I don't think sweet potato pie is as big as they think, but more to the point, I'm angry about it being included with "savory."

Favorites don’t have to be searched, you already have it written down on an index card from the 90’s. You copied it from your grandmother who got it off a pie tin in the 70’s.

I've been in Indiana for an AWFULLY long time to have never seen a Peanut Butter Pie at all, let alone at Thanksgiving. Pumpkin, Apple, Sweet Potato, and maybe Pecan, Cherry or even Peach pies, sure, but I'm not entirely convinced that half the other stuff on this map even exists.

I know a lot of people are complaining about the accuracy of... basically everything about this map.
But what really bothers me is that I feel with every fiber of my being like Pumpkin Pie and Key Lime Pie shouldn't be in the same category as each other. They're just not the same kind of experience. Regardless of who eats them when.

The lack of talk about shoofly pie really saddens me since its the best pie

  Shoofly pie is a type of American pie made with molasses associated with Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine.
  We went to an Amish community festival a long time ago and that’s where I had my first bite. It was the most delicious thing I’ve ever had and it was unforgettable!

I've lived in Ohio my whole life and I've never seen a Butterscotch pie or heard of anyone having one.

I lived in NC for 28 years, never heard of buttermilk pie. Derby and pumkin were popular as well as pecan.

Pumpkin pie or bust

I've never had a Frito Chili Pie for Thanksgiving...In all my years of living in Kansas. It was either Pumpkin, Apple, or Chocolate Silk. My family must have been an outlier.
- Lifelong Kansan and same. No idea wtf a Frito chili pie is but nobody I know eats it and you'd probably be scorned for bringing it instead of Apple or Pumpkin.

Lived in and around DC basically my whole life. I have never once seen a “banoffee pie” nor would I be able to identify it or describe it.

  Yes and more. The way it worked when I was a kid that you had your choice of deserts. The whole family would come up with what they were bringing. Never once though have I ever saw a Peanut butter pie.
