Game is actually very high-quality. A lot of girly games I grew up with were… not of the best quality, while more stereotypically boyish or gender-neutral fare was better. This game is aimed at women/girls and actually has very nice gameplay and graphics (and people of other genders can absolutely enjoy it too). As of now there are soft and hard timegates but they do not feel anywhere near as frustrating as typical mobile energy timers. I tried Ikemen Vampire and despite liking otome games, I bounced off super hard after a couple days of genuinely trying because so much was gated behind freaking energy. Progress on story can be soft-gated here (must level up clothes or get good enough clothes to certain amount, it takes energy to level up clothes or get certain—but not all—clothing materials) but you can still explore the open world, collect most materials, and dress up Nikki/play minigames to your heart’s content, so it feels way less bad.

At least, that’s why I am assuming such an innocent community ad has attracted downvotes so early on. It’s not some shovelware game or a Flash dress up game out of 2008 (though I did like the latter). In a period of my life where I am having trouble sitting down and just enjoying a video game, I have gotten quite hooked on Infinity Nikki. Tried on the recommendation of the OP once late December, have been playing almost daily ever since. It’s genuinely fun.

  • Yea I would just make it again for that one. There are ~180 subscribers but I think you can make that up with some care and attention with the new community :)

Feel free to promote it on !communitypromo@lemmy.ca and !newcommunities@lemmy.world once you make it!

  • You're free to make a new community if you want, but there are a couple things you could try first.

    • you could contact the admins of the community instance and ask them if you can take over the dead community. A lot of times they'll say yes, and they just make you the mod. If the community is on lemmy.world you can just go to the !support@lemmy.world community and make a post saying "requesting (name of the community)" and they'll get back to you.
    • another thing you could do is ask about it on the !comm_revival@lemmy.dbzer0.com (e: fixed link) community. That's where people point out dead communities and talk about how to bring them back. you may find other people who want to help you, or they may suggest another alternative like a better instance to start it on, or an existing community that is thriving

Once you've taken over a community, you should make sure it doesn't just die again. post there regularly and advertise it on the following locations:

Good luck! Feel free to ask around if you need more help!

  • I don't think the subs failed to get off the ground because of federation, I think they did because they didn't have a dedicated person tirelessly filling them with posts and single-handedly carrying them. Because that's still where we are population wise. 50k+ MAUs is very nice, but not nearly enough for niche subs to be self-sustaining. Look at any small but active Lemmy sub right now and it's often a single person doing 90% of the posting. The only real way to get a new sub going is to be that person.

At least now we have stuff like Lemmy Federate and places like !newcommunities@lemmy.world and !communitypromo@lemmy.ca that are both fairly active, so getting a new sub off the ground should be much easier than two years ago.

  • Thank you for this, looks great!

Small questions, as this community is used by all instances new joiners, would it be possible to add those direct links under the fedecan guides? something like

  • Since your account is on Feddit.nl, you just go here and create the communities: https://feddit.nl/login?prev=%2Fcreate_community

Then you can introduce them in this community:

    !newcommunities@lemmy.world

  • Make sure to promote your new communities at !newcommunities@lemmy.world and !communitypromo@lemmy.ca - Lemmy doesn't have an algorithm so getting off the ground will take some effort. Beware that we're still at below critical mass for easy sustaining of niche communities, so if you desire for one you will probably have to be the one doing the majority of the posting yourself for a while.

  • Hi & welcome!

They won't do much to help you find something specifically related to what you're already subscribed to, but those might still help find interesting communities. You may also want to present you new community there ;)

  • URGENT on !eurographicnovels@lemm.ee the frequent poster @JohnnyEnzyme@lemm.ee has to take some time out for personal reasons and is asking other people to take over... I don't have any content to post there so I can't help out. But anyone with an interest in that topic who has some excerpts/reviews/info they want to post, I invite them to do so.

In other news.... !gothindustrial@lemmy.world is showing a bit of life... a couple different people have been posting each week, starting about a month ago. Not sure what that's about.

On !bmoviebonanza@lemmy.world I started doing a weekly post about the Mastodon weekly view parties. Then when I go to the view parties (which are a lot of fun!) I post a link to the lemmy post. That way I advertise each to each:

Finally, I've had some success advertising niche communities by posting spoiler-tagged lists of communities to new people when they ask for direction. Here's what I'm talking about, I welcome you to do something similar:

  • Go to home page of ur instance and click the create community button. Come up with a name sidebar rules etc.

U can use the following communities to promote ur community and discover other communities.

    !newcommunities@lemmy.world !communitypromo@lemmy.ca

U will have to post lots of content before the community starts to pick up that duty.

If u want an example check out my community !news_summary@hilariouschaos.com

  • I havent really kept tabs on how the “everything” feed works. Does it show posts from small communities here and there?

If you want to see posts from small communities (balanced with the larger ones) then select "Scaled" instead of "Hot" or "Active".

If you're sick of politics and tech then subscribe to communities you like and sort by "Subscribed" instead of "Local" or "All". Look here for relevant communities:

  • I'm not involved with running it -- and given that this is likely to be a politics heavy community, I'm probably going to stay out of it for the most part. 🙃️ I just happened to see the announcement post that @3dmvr@lemm.ee made to !newcommunities@lemmy.world about a week ago and remembered it.

If you or @3dmvr@lemm.ee want to start a thread in !communitypromo@lemmy.ca feel free though!

  • A better way is to use !communitypromo@lemmy.ca or !newcommunities@lemmy.world if you don't want to browse /all.

Community promo has new posts for "old" communities that you might have missed every once in a while too.
