Instagram users are baffled after an innocuous illustration of the words "immigrants make the country great" was flagged by the platform.
Yeah, everyone should stop using Instagram, Facebook, threads, reddit, tik tok. But the FOMO is too strong. It's too bad, if they did it would fix most of their problems in like a week.

I'm actively working on moving on from Facebook. The amount of false information on the platform is just astounding and when you report the lies, you just get a response saying it doesn't break any rules. Not even talking politics here, there was deceptive AI post about two top tennis players, that I reported.
Why is the leftist approach is to platform the opposition while the rights approach is to overwhelm the space until it does what they want?
Which approach do you think is working and which one do you think is failing?
Those spaces are overrun by bots, so have fun fighting against a never ending army of CPUs that doesn't sleep. I am going to protect my sanity and not give them my time and energy (which equals their money).

My wife is very progressive and believes in human rights. Her Facebook feed went conservative about a week ago now with constant right wing propaganda.
FB has been normally Right wing propaganda arm for ru, for like a decade. i think they might have ramped it up. plus AI bots are probably running the site anyways.
Truth, I was in the boy to alt-right pipeline cause Facebook targets literally everybody with these obtrusive ads and logic void arguments that cause brain rot. I was 15 going on hate crime because a popular Facebook post told me I was an alpha, ten years before this beta/alpha shit hit the mainstream. I'm a much more reserved adult but I'm so depressed my family still takes part in social media. I feel like I don't have friends because I'm not on insta like what hell did we turn into
She's not very progressive if she uses Facebook.
I have asked her to get off of Facebook for awhile, but she is reluctant because her whole family uses it as their primary form of communication.
I ditched Facebook finally during COVID. I had already known it was a garbage platform, but I was feeling similarly because a lot of people I knew used it. The same thing happened to my feed though and I started getting a ton of anti-vax content.
What was worse is because I am pro-health and medical technology I advocated for people to be safe. I started getting death threats by friends of friends. I was flabbergasted and decided to delete my account then and there. If Facebook could turn people anti-vax and pro-murder I had to leave.
It’s really disturbing seeing social media start leaning this way. It’s very obvious controlled fascist propaganda. Have you seen what Twitter is now? It’s actually creepy and insane.

Remove yourself from algo driven sites, set up an rss reader and hand pick your media, subcribe to newsletters of trustworthy media sites, delete useless apps from your phone or better jailbreak it and install graphene, get an e-reader secondhand and start reading etc etc.

Meta is actively pursuing government contracts for uses of its supercomputer it's putting online next year and it's AI investments. They are becoming a defense contractor essentially. To acquire contracts during this regime, I'm sure they will give any backdoor and facial recognition assistance the Pentagon asks for.
Being redundant to say this. People are actively posting pictures of themselves, their families, and their locations continuously and sending them to a government defense contractor. Posting their activities, hobbies, who they interact with, their food, et cetera.
If news companies cared about people's privacy, they would be broadcasting that on every network warning the population in my opinion. But that would piss off the U.S. government, and they don't want that.

Something interesting to me is how the left takes these things on the chin. In these comments there are lots of comments like "yea well they all do this". Compare that to the right during covid who would take screenshots and make sure everybody knew this was happening and not only that it was happening but how this would lead to dystopian authoritarian rule that threaten each and every person. I see this over and over again with each and every opportunity to show people how bad things are getting. But instead we snuff out these things ourselves and just move along.

Yes I agree with what you're saying. But the left has to adapt or its finished. For all the talk of intelligence and how dumb the right are goes out the window. That's because even with the money and the power, the people on the right had enough awareness to know when to lean into something even if they didn't agree and when to pull back. The left do not. The people I know that freaked out about these sort of things were typically maga types. Lower income, lower education, and relied on social media for all kinds of news, human contact, and such.
Meanwhile most liberals and conservatives that didn’t, lived more comfortably with higher career and education levels. This isn’t even really a left wing vs right wing kind of thing. Even the conservatives I knew that had higher education and career accomplishment freaked less out about Covid and social media “censorship” too because they could just do without.

Why not work with each other to find ways to get around these things and overwhelm the platform. Like remember when people found that AI put guardrails in. People were not on these comments saying "well guys we should pack it up and leave it alone, I don't like it anyways. No, instead the collective effort to get it to say something mean was incredible. So why is it with this stuff we convince each other to leave and let these platforms be run by the right wing people. You ever ask why there's a difference?
There ARE alternatives already and lots of great people are working on these platforms - but as long as everyone stays there „just because of…“, things won‘t change even with these options.
If great things are cloaked under a warning or a NSFW-label for no real reason, it‘s of course up to everyone to choose a different path - but this means losing followers etc. pp. - and embarking on a new platform.
So yes, we can overwhelm this platform - but do people really want this? I‘m not sure. 🤷🏼♂️

I switched to Lemmy when Reddit came out in support of people who abuse children. I don't even mean Trump, I just mean in general. I suggested abusers in general should face harsher penalties. They banned me for it. I said "holy shit you just did me a huge favor, apparently I was on the wrong site because our values are 100% incompatible."
I mean, there isn't even a debate. I'm not talking about people who find themselves attracted to kids. I'm talking about people who actually went out and hurt a real child facing longer, more meaningful sentences and they said nah, those people are people and need to be protected.
I've moved social networks on account of incompatible values and I think others will, too. Maybe not the majority but I think some others will. Especially as things get worse. There are networks for people who hate (like Truth Social), and networks for people who don't care (like Facebook/Insta/Whatsapp), but I think as things change, more people will care and will look elsewhere. Not everyone but some people.
I got banned for suggested someone stab a can with a knife to open it (they didn’t have a can opener). They said I was promoting violence. I appealed and a human still banned me for that. What a crock lol
