  • When an influential group of powerful people make hate speech a part of their standard rhetoric, is EXACTLY when you MUST block it on your platform, not a signal that it's time to start letting it slide, you fucking pricks.

  • Nut nut

  • I guess not so much in the grander scheme of things, but it’s astonishing and depressing in equal measures that Britain doesn’t seem able to have kept hold of any of its own beloved home-grown brands.

  • If you’re talking about animals it doesn’t matter.

Not even that it doesn't matter, it's almost entirely the point. The reason why using 'females' as a noun to refer to women is dehumanizing is because it's a noun we use for animals.

  • It never really felt to me like the tech bubble crash was that big a deal to many people outside of a group of greedy rich assholes. There's always collateral damage of course, but the only change I really witnessed was a stop to people getting paid 20x the median salary after spending a few weeks with a Teach Yourself Perl in 24 Hours book.

  • Reminder that after setting the political stage for the Khmer Rouge to take power with the carpet-bombing of Cambodia, the US Government continued to recognize Pol Pot as its rightful ruler all the way through to the early 1990s, simply because the actual Cambodian government of the 80s was installed with Vietnam's help.

The USA seems to be on an never-ending quest to fuck Indochina over for no fucking reason.

  • The horrible cruelty regarding Cambodia is that the reason they have such a high trade deficit is that most Cambodians are too poor to be able to begin to afford anything that America has to offer.

It's one of the poorest countries in Asia, they could cut their tariffs to 0% and the net effect would be less than the measurable rounding error on total American exports.

Trump is going to tank the economy of an already poverty-stricken country and plunge it into exactly the kind of instability that destroyed it once already just because "fuck you, give me more".

  • It's distressing how many British sweet brands now have a chain of ownership leading to the US. Mondelez famously bought Cadbury's, and Bain Capital (y'know, Mitt Romney's company) own most of the "classics" like Barratts, Fox's Glacier Mints, Poppets, Tavener's, Mojo chews, Barker & Dobson etc. The only big non-American company left is Nestle, and they can also fuck wayyyyy off.

It's only Terry's and Tunnocks left now, and even then Terry's are owned by the Fr*nch.

  • Bees live less than two months, so if only 80% of bees died in the last 8 months that would suggest a sharp recent population increase. And even if you take it as read that it means bees dying and not being replaced, 8 months is still a terrible timeframe to use because it's literally saying "there are 80% fewer bees now, at the tail end of winter, than there were at the height of bee season".

I'm not saying there isn't a bee crisis, just that this factoid is very badly worded.

  • I feel the same with Unions and the broader Right. Like the whole point of Unions is they're the "free market" equivalent of government regulation. If you're pro free market but anti-union, then you're not actually pro free market, you're just pro exploitation.

  • I've been paying for Office365 home for years. Recently I started a business and signed up for 365 Business for the company email address.

Outlook stopped working, because the 365 Business account - which I specifically signed up in order to do email - doesn't include local Outlook, and my existing home-licensed one throws a hissy fit if I try connecting it to my business account.

    Microsoft sucks.

  • It's sickening how they genuinely think they're bailing Europe out and deserve compensation for it, when they themselves are a big part of why there's so much instability in the region to begin with.
