Always with those memes too: Pepe, wojacks, chad side profile (don’t know what it’s called), every time I see a meme using those characters I reflexively hesitate to engage due to how they’ve been co-opted by the right.

They're from 4chan, they were never not reactionary. The side profile thing in particular came from racist feuding between northern european white supremacists and greek white supremacists.

Was Pepe a 4chan thing? I thought the creator was a normal person that was saddened by the racist meaning his frog had gained. I remember seeing shit about it online.

Yeah, but it was totally apropriated by 4chan and then spread to other nazis. It also spread to less nazi memers so pepe is not necessary nazi by itself at this point, but often is. And when combined with anything Roman and chad picture you can be 100% sure that is a nazi.
