Can't believe there are idiots that still deny climate change. Here in the MENA (Middle east + North africa, basically arab world) it's been brutal, frequent droughts, dangerous air quality and insane levels of heat in summer (and average days too, but it's only 33 celsius right now so not too bad). 1,300 people died last year in my city alone
But yeah... climate change is a hoax. 🙄
Can’t believe there are idiots that still deny climate change.
Yep. The signs are all around us, even in Northern Europe. Not so far north that melting glaciers are a thing, but shorter and warmer winters, earlier spring, burnt grass in summer (this has never been a thing in Finland), disruption of long-standing weather patterns...
Most "sensible" deniers nowadays claim it's not human made. For them I always keep this xkcd handy.
I've had 33 degree summers in Lithuania and they were absolutely brutal.
And the most common sentiment about climate change right now among KTU civil engineer students is "oh stop shoving this climate bullshit down our throats" and it isn't even exclusive to the fucking students.
Makes me mad listening to it.
Temperatures around 50°C with "feels temperature" almost at 60°C. I know some people use saunas at 60°C
Jesus christ what the fuck. I live in a gulf state so i'm not as affected as much as algerians for example, but if this goes on the death toll is going to absolutely sky rocket.
Makes even less sense now that people think it's fake...
No problemo - let's us just ban reports on this while increasing fossil fuels consumption and eating more meat. There, problem solved.
eating more meat
People in arid regions are practically roasting alive in the heat??? Yum more meat for us 😋
MENA
Middle East and North Africa
Thanks, edited.
G'day mate, yeah us hot regions are getting screwed faster and harder by climate change. One saving grace is we've been building places to handle the heat for longer.
Hope you aussies are doing well in this. ACs are genuinely a necessity here, i was incredibly surprised that they didn't air condition every single building in european countries.
What's even funnier is that my country's infamous for shit climate handling + huge use of fossil oils, we're causing our on collapse xd. Hopefully we'll become net-zero and actually adhere to the pledges. Hopefully you all will too :D
Perhaps the denial is more widespread there because in the wealthy oil dictatorships there is no other industry, at all. The saudi dictator is trying to diversify but let's not kid ourselves, the economy is still 95% oil
And a lot of homes and apartments in Europe have no AC
What's really crazy is that Europe will soon need most homes to have central heating. With the AMOC collapse hurrying along, Europe will actually fall off in temp soon and be more like Canada. Meanwhile the eastern USA will be flooded and very hot because the current stopped pulling hot water away from the coast.
Give that like 20 years or so. Maybe less.
This is bad for the people in those homes, but good for global tempurate.
Europe, so hot right now.
Time to do more nothing!
I saw this series last year called Extrapolations, and even though the story itself wasn't necessarily that good I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to see how the future might look. I've read a lot about rising temperatures and extreme weather but this show really helped me visualise how those things might impact me and the generations after me. It's not a disaster movie like The Day After Tomorrow or 2012 where everything goes wrong all of a sudden, but rather a set of stories where things gradually get worse. Hopefully they will never get as bad as in the last few episodes but I believe the whole thing is backed by science and shows things that will actually happen if we do not do enough about climate change.
Just gotta live long enough to inherit that newly beachfront property in Lichtenstein, then. 🤞🏼
I have been enjoying the mild and almost snowless winters, though ...
I miss the snow. I like it.
