Depends on your feed. rn most people are getting gore lol. Some part of the algorithm got fucked and it looks like liveleak.
Most of the racism I see on ig comedic and self aware. Not that it’s good, but it’s not meant as a far-right agenda pushing racism. More of a “I’m gonna make fun of minorities bc I think it’s funny and I don’t care about politics”
Mainly just edgy teens, the more you read the hateful comments the more IG shows it to you. If you see a post with the comments, click Not Interested under it, it can help curate your feed.
My Instagram feed has gotten more left since Trump took office again, but I have also started following more political and activist accounts. I noticed as I was leaving Facebook the less I interacted with things the more insane posts the algorithm would show me. It could be if Meta doesn't know what you want to see it just shows you the worst hoping you engage somehow.
Kidding. I honestly dont have the experience to answer fully but that very specific scenario made me giggle.
That said, the decline and end enshitification of everything is coupled with the relazation from advertizers that o ly ads are sketchy AF,and the people selling ad space are not to be trusted, leading to folks with lesser means boosting topics that would have previously been ostracized from whichever corporate social media company. Pissing people off has long been the most effective means of driving engagement, and lower quality advertisers care less about public perception.
My feed on Instagram is filled with Nature / Science Documentaries, Comic and Cartoons Reels (Pokemon, Tom and Jerry, etc). But sometimes comments will exhibit the usual shenanigans (i.e. "I don't believe in evolution"), or accounts that used to be legit suddenly devolve into advertisement spam.
I make sure my preferences are kept by liking the content / posts that cater to them so the algorithm shows me more of them. Of course, I also set a timer on Android so that I don't spend too much time on the platform (20 mins a day)
yeah basically echoing what everyone else has said. with a little bit of interaction it'll get rid of that stuff pretty quick and i really don't see much of it anymore except for really mainstream stuff like the occasional joe rogan clip or something.
