  • Ring of protection. Grants everyone around you protection in a fairly large radius. Might be useful for long range combat, maybe. Might also be useful to navigating certain environmental hazards.

Boots of Flying. They can fly, but only have a carry weight of a few pounds. If you're more than say ten pounds, the little wings flap but gain no altitude. They are not autonomous. Might be useful in condunction with other magics to reduce weight.

Gauntlets of Ogre Might. Do not affect strength. They do tell you the odds of nearby ogres taking particular actions. They might do this, they might do that, and so on.

Hammer of Striking. Social bonuses when organizing labor. Combat bonuses only when near many allies.

Boots of Haste. Gain extra actions but large penalties to all checks. Haste makes waste. May be useful if combined with large bonuses or fixed outcomes (eg: DND diviner wizard).

  • Why didn't the conductor close the door on these guys?

  • 1d4-1 is 0 to 3. Sorry, not the point.

One factor might be location. I'm in a major city.

  • What do you mean exactly? If you think some people are just innately attractive and that's immutable and unattainable, that's nonsense.

Easily changed stuff like a better haircut, better fitting clothes, a better photo, all go a long way.

I'm a very average guy with a wardrobe of thrift store finds and band tshirts. I'm not even 6' tall. But I did try to whole-ass engage with every potential match instead of doing bullshit like chatgpt or copy-pasted ice breakers.

Also a real fast way to be unattractive is having an ugly worldview. Most people aren't going to like someone who treats them like shit. Someone who has a genuine conversation and shares interests will go farther.

  • At one of my old jobs, some of the software engineers would work nights and weekends without being paid extra. I said we shouldn't do that. Management gave me a talking to about how I was demoralizing the team and it doesn't hurt me if they want to work extra. It didn't seem the appropriate time to argue that them devaluing the same labor I do does hurt me.

  • I started buying music in 2015 (mostly Bandcamp) and I have no regrets. I have a big library now of drm free music. Some months I spend nothing and still enjoy music, without ads.

  • Republicans don't believe in government as a concept. They should not be allowed to be anywhere near power.

  • I just assume big businesses are run by idiots.

If Microsoft had their shit together, they could've made something like Steam. That's just printing money.

  • I saw Castle Rat in Brooklyn the other day (great show) and it was like $25 + $10 of bs "fees".

I don't see many bigger bands anymore because the tickets are more than double that.

  • I enjoyed playing Baldur's gate 3 as a rogue, playing it like a assassin's creed game. Nothing but stealth attacks and running away. Never get into a full combat if possible.

  • Discord was never secure and a private for profit org was never going to stay good.

  • to meet the man she’d spent the last three weeks opening up to.

First off, don't chat for three weeks before a date. That's a terrible idea. You're going to build up a faulty model of who they are and then be jolted when you meet them in real life. Which is exactly what happened here.

Second, to all the people using chat gpt, I don't know how to say this nicely but fucking git gud. What a bunch of sad sacks that can't have a conversation, can't read a wikipedia article, can't even try their honest best.

a workaround for what he sees as the coded jargon of modern dating. “Like, what do you mean ‘What’s my attachment style?’” he balks. “Every girl on the apps has this thing about ‘love languages’ – it’s just gibberish

Is it though? Take five minutes to read about it if it's so ubiquitous. What a sack of shit.

I'm a pretty average guy and I was getting 1d4-1 dates per week just by matching with people and asking them out. You really don't need to do more than be genuine, present, and interested in them.

  • Deadfire was great. Good characters, good gameplay systems.

Loved my chanter with the heaviest armor and shield that popped out summons and sang until the enemies died. Or my cipher that would disintegrate enemies.

  • That's DND 5e for you.

The designers originally wanted people to do like 5 fights per rest, but players rightfully said that kind of sucks, and they want to use their cool powers. DND designers keep trying to make this work. It's especially bad in video games where players hate timed quests.

If they had done something like dark souls "get from here to there on one rest" it might have worked better, but that's a much harder game.

  • I tried to play it with someone I was dating. She spent like an hour in the character creation menu. Had a lot of fun making her ranger look interesting. But as soon as we got to the actual gameplay, she checked out. I think we got to the druids and she was done.

Turn based I think is kind of double edged. There's a lot of waiting, that's bad. But you also don't get overwhelmed when you're trying to figure out how to move the camera or whatever.

DND 5e is a shallow system that you have to go out of your way to make a weak character. That helps. But it also makes it kind of boring for people looking for more depth.

  • You want a coal plant cool, BUT if it is spewing crap into the air that we breath, it violates NAP and not allowed to operate.

Most of the libertarians I've met don't seem to believe that sort of thing. They might accept that punching someone is bad, but something complex like pollution they don't accept.

"I should be free to dump my garbage on my property! It's mine!"

"Yeah, but then you pollute the river and everyone down stream suffers"

    "...it's my property!"

  • None of the guys at my old job liked lae'zel. I think because she's kind of mean. I'm like that's what I'm here for. I don't want some pushover passive aggression like shadow heart, and karlach is fine I guess, but lae'zel making people lick her boots is the shit. I'm not even into being dominated but I do like women with agency.

  • Grand juries only hear the prosecution. There's no defense. They only need a simple majority to indict. And if the prosecutor doesn't get an indictment, they can just try again. There's no double jeopardy protection at this stage.

Noteworthy, all those times when prosecutor's "couldn't get an indictment" for the police killing someone, it's because they didn't want to.

  • They don't care about hypocrisy because their only value is in-group supremacy. But some of them still hold onto the illusion that they are good people and hypocrisy is bad, so maybe they'll make mouth noises. But in their souls they don't care.
