  • Further update for anyone who saw my previous posts:

I haven't gotten the message telling me I've been accepted, but my payment in my Centrelink online account has swapped to Disability Support Pension. This is such a huge load off my shoulders. I finally made it.

Payment schedule is odd, my "last payment" listed says 13th of July, but I received my $33 telephone allowance just after midnight tonight, which is odd since that was meant to arrive tomorrow. My first listed payment(the 13th of July "last payment" one) also has reduced pension payment but 3x the rent assistance and pension supplement on it. Very weird.

Still have to wait on Centrelink's letter to see if I have any mutual obligations, but I'm so happy. I think I'll get some backpay to my claim date, but some people have said online that they only backpay if the claim took over 6 months, or had to be appealed. So I'm not sure. Still. Happy.

    • That's awesome news for you. Dealing with Centrelink is such a pain, it's great to actually get some good out of it.

    • While I was on the Disability Support Pension I only had to apply for 12 jobs which was nice. I still had to go in to so my provider and such, but they were nice enough where if I say "I can't, I am in a lot of pain" she'd be like "okay I'll reschedule". But I still wish I could've just had phone call appointments... sigh.

But this is very exciting for you! It felt so good when I got my backpay back in early 2020.

    • Congratulations! I know what it's like waiting for Centrelink to do anything 🙄

    • Thank you for sharing the good news :)

    • Amazing news 😁

    • Congratulations! Been there, I know what a relief it is to have it sorted.

  • I just won Metro lotto - arrived at the station as the train was pulling up, and got a forward facing window seat.

  • I have way too many things to do, so of course I'm not doing any of them because I don't know where to start. Small bites. Getting dressed is a good start. I've already scrubbed the shower and washed my hair. Dressed, dry hair, clean floors is next.

    • Hey that's great, you've already done heaps! I like to write a "done" list as much as a "to do" list. It helps me feel a bit more accomplished.

      • Got most it done in a bizarre order, now to chill out for a bit... D4, come at me!! What's the name of the exercise challenges you've been doing? I'm really interested in the tummy one! I need to work on my core and your comment about standing straighter really struck me!

  • Day 18 of exercise program and day 3 of 10 day tummy challenge completed. I'm already feeling like I can walk a little straighter! Which is great because I'm a real sloucher.

    • Good work😊. I'm on a rest day from the weights today, but will have lots of walking.

  • Zoning out with my jeans halfway up my thighs,
\ Sitting on the couch, waiting for the sunrise.
\ Gonna leave the house, these walls I despise,
\ Though I'm loathe to leave, I must break these ties.

I've been in good company, while all by myself,
\ I should break these walls, I should reach out,
    \ But I don't see the point, I'm full of self-doubt.
    \ I know I'll feel better,
\ If I accept this offer.
\ But they could do better,
\ What do I have to offer?
\ Am I really so human to be around others?
\ Can I be carefree, can I not be a bother?
    \ Ignore that aversion!
\ Maybe I'm cool in person...
\ There's only one way to know:
\ I have to get up and go.

Edit: Image Description: white/tabby cat on my clothing rack. He has a look of slight worry as his backfeet (not pictured) fall between the rungs.

  • It's been a big day and I'm heading to bed early. Bot #001 is on night shift, and will now be handling the day name in the new post title. Hopefully it won't be a repeat of last Thursday (which it marked as Wednesday).

  • It’s like early spring out here. Sun warm, wind not too cold. Went out in short sleeves for lunchtime walk and not cold.

    • El Niño has been declared this season,
\ The Sun warms us up, that's the reason.
\ It'll be hot and dry, oh so relatable,
\ La Niña was humid and fucked, oh so excitable.
\ Witness the symptoms of our climate attack,
\ She's left and El Niño is here bringing sweaty back.

      edit: corrected :)

      • Now I'll never hear that lame song in the same way again. ahahahah, thank Stud. JT paid a few of my bills over the years, but his music is not what I would ever choose to listen to.

    • I've turned off the heating and opened the windows to let some fresh air in, it's glorious

  • The second best kitchen appliance is the rice cooker*
\ Shiny base, matte black lid, uh such a looker
\ No I don't have a crush on the rice cooker
\ This appliance can't be my culinary hooker
\ My heart only has space for one nutritional love
\ A nightshade root, gifted from mother nature above
\ Its many forms, into my mouth I will shove
\ Apologies, I digressed from my second true love
    \ Rice cooker
    \ Without ya
    \ I probably just use pasta 🤷‍♀️

    *the/first/being/the/microwave/with/a/potato/inside/of/course/though/until/I/can/get/mine/fixed/or/replaced/the/rice/cooker/takes/top/spot/in/lieu

    • 🥔🍠
\ Edit: I don't really use rice enough to have a rice cooker, also small kitchen. Lots of times if I'm making a rice dish it's cooked in the with sauce too, like risotto, paella type dishes, chilli con carne style meals where I add rice into the pan. On the rare occasion I want to make some plain rice I feel like I do a good enough job in a saucepan

      • Easy stove top fluffy rice every time:

1 cup rice unrinsed, 1.5 cup water. Add to cold pot bring to boil lid off. Simmer on low 12 mins with the lid on. Turn heat off wait 10 mins with lid on (do not take off).

        Fluff with fork.

        Fluffy

        Every time

        Major fluff.

      • I like cooking more rice then needed, I dry the leftovers out in the oven on low for a few hours and use that in stirfrys. Tbh, I have not cooked rice in a pan/pot before haha

    • yes!!! I have a microwave rice cooker, cos i don't have space for a real one. It works. I should really start padding my meals out with brown rice again, it's such a great food.

  • In good news, the museum was free with my student card. In bad news it was so horrifically noisy I bailed after less than ten minutes before I had a meltdown. It is not a good place to be with a noise sensitivity.

I did have a lovely walking tour around town taking lots of photos of parks and buildings. I walked from Treasury Gardens up to Melbourne Uni then down to Flagstaff, so I'm very much enjoying being able to sit down for a while on the train

  • Cats cuddled, gas bill paid, 2 loads of washing done and on the line along with the Uniqlo thermals that didn't quite dry yesterday.
Now having a breather with Sammi on my lap and texting back and forth with my aunt about options for restaurants for my birthday, before I take up some leaves for the green bin.

  • \ Image: best lunch I had in ages. Microwaved sweet potato, butter, salt, pepper and some mango-lemon hotsauce, topped with smoked herring (from a tin)

    • The orange sweet tater makes this dish pop!

      • Not just amazingly cheap, easy to prepare, incredibly nutritious and delicious, it's also pretty enough to frame! What more could you ask for?

        .

    • Spied on the net, would ya look at that.
\ Mango-lemon hotsauce with zapped potat!
\ Salt, butter, pepper, fish from a tin,
\ A well deserved lunch fit for a King!
\ It has what MAN craves, tasty smoked herring,
\ Full of electrolytes, probably, I'm guessing...
\ Pay no mind to that, it doesnt matter,
\ In the face of a lunch that can be no better.
\ This is what peak perfomance looks like,
\ If you don't agree, get on ya bike!

    • Already forgot about the herring, going to see if I can grab some tomorrow when I do my shopping.

I wonder if it'd pair well with pasta sauce?

      • It probably would be fine... but I'd say mackerel or tuna would work better - at least in a tomatoey pasta sauce. The herring (aka. Kippers, if your shopping for them and get confused) is a bit more delicate, it's a white fish versus the meatiness of tuna/mackerel

      • It does. Very well indeed.

  • Vacuuming is done! But also I have completely forgotten what I was up to with everything else. I feel like I'm in a bit of a career and identity crisis at the moment which is distracting me heaps. I will try my best to get back on track.

    • Talking about foodporn, look at this creamy, yellow mac'n'cheese. If you slurp it, it sounds just like c...onsumption! :D

      I love mac'n'cheese, it's a top-tier comfort food!

    • Pasta for you and I thought I went the tomato pasta sauce route.

      I’m so full now!

  • First day back in the office this afternoon so you bet I'm just anxiously sitting about my house until it's time to get ready.

On a brighter note, I did get a phone call from my supervisor earlier to confirm I had all my security tags in check, which gave me the brief opportunity to mention moving out of my position now we've returned to the office. They've said they'd move the conversation up the chain and see what can be done, apparently one of my coworkers has asked to be moved as well.

    • Are only certain positions required to attend the office for your workplace?

      • Certain positions and sections are afforded more lenient WFH schedules. Despite my section being the most able to WFH someone in upper management was out to flex their muscles due some politicking that's be going on amongst the ranks.

  • Tell you what, being in the office has got me feeling like a rat in a warming pot. Had to do a fire safety tour and spent the entire time thinking how embarrassing it would be to have a panic attack on my first day back.

  • new inks and paint have been obtained , calligraphy india ink, dark blue, metallic black and a box of mixed colours , wheeee 😀😀😀

  • I have to have a phone call with someone for this job... Ughhhhhhhh I don't wanna!

But I've gotta rip the band-aid off soon.

    • You can do it! Good luck!

      • Just don't know why people can't read emails. Like the info is there.

I'm gonna kms if it's just basic stuff that was in the email... (The kms comment is very sarcastic!!!!)

  • Imagine watching "Judgement at Nuremberg", a moving film about the Nazi war crime trials. Imagine it was rewritten so that the judges are presented as conflicted and incompetent, the case presented that Goring, Speer , Ribbentrop and other architects of the war could not be tried because there was no laws against it at the time. Also that the Allies were really responsible because they were imperial powers and anyway, they knew Germany was going to attack and could have stopped them. And did you hear about Dresden? The Allies bombed a city. So it was ALL the Allies responsibility and choice. Not Germany's fault at all. Then you read the credits and the movie was made by Nazis.

Kind of like all the shit Russia is saying now to justify attacking Ukraine and committing genocide.

Kind of like the shit every single one of these genocidaire presidents say at the War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague. "You have no right to try me, I do not recognise you. You are the criminals, not me. Also, not guilty. "

That's what watching "Tokyo Trial " on Netflix is like. Imagine my shock when I read the credits and the series was partly made by the Japanese government. ( no shock at all, just a little that they have the gall to say it out loud when they have been told a hundred times ) Shame on them.

If it were in my purview I would make formal diplomatic complaints.

Don't watch Tokyo Trial, it's the worst propaganda.

here's some clips from Judgement at Nuremberg

  • In other news, just had a young guy in hi vis gear knocking on the door doing the 'we're doing some painting for your neighbours, noticed you needed some work done, would you like a quote' spiel.
    Suuuuure, mate.

    • Years ago, we had some young dudes going around saying they're from the council (they weren't) and that we have to pay them $40 to paint our house number on the curb. They got upset when we said no and told us we'd get a fine from the council. They got even more upset when I said, let me ring the local council to verify that this actually a thing.

      • Had the same about a decade and a half ago. A lot of neighbours took them up and the numbers wore off in about 6 months heh.

  • gotta say.. I was a lot more nervous with the dentist hacking away on my teeth with a scraper and his drill when there's no anaesthesia involved. Glad to not have a numb face for the rest of the day though!

    • Huh, that was my yesterday. Had a missing filling and required no numbing. My dentist is awesome and efficient. 30 minutes in an out for a fairly deep cavity (more of a tooth rebuild).

  • Okay. I've talked through the key issues bothering me and there's a bit more clarity. I've jotted down my thoughts and a bit of a plan on a page and I feel slightly calmer. I'm not sure what's next but at least that's something.

  • How do you feel about posts like this on c/Melbourne?

I'm noticing it's getting downvoted, it might be a bit too on the negative side of topics for the community, I'm also worried about removing it because of the topic as well, would like to hear some input.

    • Leave it up man. Get some some variety up in this bish.

It’s two hours long and nobody gonna listen to it anyway.

    • Leave it up. Then it's the reader/listener's choice. Maybe a nsfw warning.

    • I like Shaun's video, and it's informative. But I would necessarily take it down. Yeah it's pretty negative, but I'd hate for this instance to be forced toxic positivity like "everything's fine, everything's cool". etc.

    • It has nothing to do with Melbourne though or Australia
