  • I tried Krita. It's not not as good as GIMP is. What I will say is, it is pretty good for what it is and offers stuff that GIMP does not have. In fact I wanted to switch multiple times because of the support for Vector layers and non destructive workflows. But I never liked editing or creating images with it. Their text tool is also terrible (or was, I don't know the current state). Just not a good GIMP replacement for me.

  • I'm sure the mainstream doesn't care or even know what problems a subset of people have. I am not saying it is not a problem for those who have, but don't pretend as if the name is an issue in widespread adoption. In fact, changing the name would only lead to a little adoption, but split the user base and make it even more confusing. Lot of people wouldn't want to use the old name or the new fork, because everywhere and every article talks about how bad the name was. Therefore many people would just distance themselves from the project, without really understanding the issue or even caring.

Let alone all the references in history, web and tutorials on YouTube which is only written for name "GIMP". Changing the name of the main project would be a terrible idea. However I propose anyone who have a problem with it to simply fork it, and do a name and brand change. Without much other work, so it is not far behind to original project. This way people having a problem could just use that instead and everyone is happy.

  • Such a huge usability improvement! I always tried to mimic this kind of workflow with what was available before, but it never worked seemless and I always forgot how I did it last time (lol, but also sad). This release is such a big deal.

  • I find Photoshop not intuitive too, because its different from GIMP.

  • The long awaited shape tool is coming up next. So the next GIMP version is shaping up to be a great release. This reply is in no shape or form a word play. :>

  • Ah it looks so clean and dense, love it. So much better than what is proposed to be changed into. At least we can make adjustments with custom CSS. Mine matches the system theme (from the operating system) BTW. :-)

  • I miss

Hi It's Jeff From The Overwatch Team

  • Acknowledging the issues and having a plan is a first good sign of trust. Executing is the other, so we'll see how this will going. I personally lost trust and interest into Manjaro and switched away. From personal experience, there were technical issues (caused by Manjaro), and social issues (didn't like the administration and project leader). But I hope they "recover" and be better, and survive.

  • I agree here. I also want to add, it depends on who maintains the Flatpak too. It's not always the official developers.

  • Sure (myself neither). I just don't understand why he replies that to me, as if it is an argument to make a point for or against my reply. And seeing that some people downvoted me confuses me even more. I just said I don't understand why he replied to me. Why would anyone downvote without explaining?? What is the reason people got it the wrong way? Really I'm just confused.

  • I doubt it runs on linux. Last time I tried 15 years ago, it ran but everything was black and the mouse wouldn’t capture within the game window.

Civ Revolution is not available for PC. So did you try a different Civ game on Linux? If you want play the PS3 version again and have a powerful machine, then emulating PS3 with RPCS3 is an option. The compatibility rating for the game on the emulator is rated as Playable.

EDIT: Oh you was talking about Civ3! Looks like I can't read, sorry. Well Looking at recent ProtonDB user reports, looks like Civ3 is playable on Linux. But its not perfect, reports say without music and you need to install C3X. I personally have no experience, so cannot assist further.

  • Enjoy. :-) Every day there are new or updated ones (I mean on the websites where I get them). This keeps me busy and can't wait to update this package next year again. :-p

  • This is a tough question to answer, there is so much to choose from. I didn't play most of them. But I think there are interesting ones as a starting point:

    Super Mario World_

    • Hack: Series of short mods with interesting gimmics and level ideas.
    • 'the: A non jump and run game, more like an atmospheric adventure, a creepypasta experience.
    • Castlemania: Inspired by NES Castlevania style and retro look, a hard game.
    • SMW Friends and Rivalry: A more traditional Mario like level design. Full on game with over 90 levels

    Chrono Trigger_

    • Crimson Echoes: A very high quality production and maybe the best Chrono Trigger Romhack. This was actually never really finished officially, because it got hit by a cease and desist by Square. There is also Flames of Eternity, which took Crimson Echoes and worked on it without permission. Therefore its very controversal.
    • Prophets Guile: From the same guys who made Crimson Echoes, another high quality mod. This one is short. It tells the story of Magus, how he rise to power in Kingdom of Zeal.

    Final Fantasy 6_

There are actually lots of these complete rebalance and feature rich improvements. I just picked on of them here.

    • A Soldiers Contingency (Extended Bestiary Edition): Comprehensive gameplay expansion and overhaul. It's still the same game, but less tedious battles and no grinding, rebalancing and ton of features and addons.

    Super Mario Kart_

    • Hyper Street Kart: With characters and items from Street Fighter. It is not the best mod, but noteworthy theme and very popular.
    • Mario Kart R: Another popular mod. Has new courses, music and graphics.
    • Reverse (Mirror Mode): If you just want to play the same game, but racing to the other direction instead.

    F-Zero_

    Zelda 3_

    • Parallel Remodel: A rework on one of the most popular and old Romhacks for this game, called Parallel Worlds that was known for extreme difficulty. This tries to make it better playable and fair.
    • The Hunters Song: A relatively new mod, with 3 new dungeons and story. I actually don't know too much about this one, it seems to be popular.
    • Conkers High Rule Tail: A complete change fo the game. Play as Conker from Conkers BAd Fur Day with lots of new stuff.

    Super Metroid_

    • Redesign Axeil Edition: Another rework of a classic mod named Redesign, that tries to make it better playable. There are new items, changed physics, new abilities and so on. Still a hard game to play.
    • Ancient Chozo: It is based off the original maps, but expands it with new rooms, graphics, puzzles, music and so on.

    Star Fox_

    • EX: (just play v1.11) New levels, bosses, musics, graphics and ton of features! Play in wireframe mode or use SNES mouse.
    • Sunlits STar Fox Minihack: (just play FastRom version) 6 new levels basically. I don't have much information, but people like it.

    Donkey Kong Country_

    • Kremlings Revenge Remodel: It is a rework of an older mod. There are new graphics, levels and bonuses. Should be as difficult as the original game.

Look into their description, to learn a bit more before getting into. Or just run them and see what you get.

  • I'm not sure why you reply this to me directly.

  • I say as long as Ai exist, real programmers will always have a job and are not replaceable. YOLO Vibelords are replaceable, but only real programmers have the skill to go through the shit. That's the most secure job ever if you ask me.

  • The comparison does not hold up, because for watching films it does not matter on what medium it is. But for applications it has huge implications for maintaining versions, updates, creating packages with or without runtimes and dependencies and a repository and so on, that work differently on operating systems and so on. This goes way beyond just the user choosing the format.

  • AppImages are completely different thing versus Flatpak and Snap.

  • I feel sorry for anyone relying on Copilot.
