Y'all got any stories about knowing a language that others didn't realize you knew, or people talking in a language you didn't know, or similar "unexpected" situations involving languages?
  • I am not Spanish, but I learnt it while leaving there some years ago. And I like languages, so I did my best to learn it as well as I can. Years later, I met my now Spanish husband while living in Germany. When I went first time with him to Spain, to meet the family, they were having a big family dinner.

Before eating, everyone just talked with the others in small groups, and I happened to be talking with my husband’s uncle( he is one of those that strayed to the right side of politics and likes to believe conspiracy theories and I think he does not like immigrants). Anyway, I was talking to him for a while, probably about living and working in Germany, I don’t remember.

But at some point, my now husband comes into the mini group and asks him:“So? What do you think of her Spanish, it‘s really good, right?“ He got auch a face of confusion, trying to make sense of the words, I had to laugh. He finally asked:“But…is she not Spanish?!“ Oh the satisfaction! He would be the kind of person saying that he would definitely detect someone outside of Spain. I do speak as they do in the north, so I use verb tenses differently than them. And also have some regional words from the north in my vocabulary. So I could fool him easier because of that.

O mișcare tot mai amplă pentru boicotarea produselor din SUA s-a răspândit din Scandinavia în Canada, Marea Britanie și alte țări, ca răspuns la politicile autoritare ale președintelui american Donald Trump, scrie The Guardian.

LPT: Sleep with 2 sets of blankets if you share a bed
  • Oh yes, we do that too. We both have a 2x2 m duvet. He comes on my side and gets warm( he is the one with cold feet and hands in the family) and gets sleepy while I play with his hair, and then slides under his cover to sleep. I like to „cocoon“ myself sometimes and I also sleep like a frog with my legs flexed. And if one of us snores too badly or has a cold, one of us sleeps on the sofa in the living room, which I built especially because I wanted to use a mattress there, so it is comfy for sleeping.

We did find once in France a big bad with a very big duvet on top, we could sleep comfortably under that single one without touching even if we wanted.

A good night sleep is essential for the happiness of the marriage and the rest of life. There is no shame in making it work for you. I heard some say 2 sinks are essential, but in our case I think 2 toilets would be great.

  • I started uploading my youtube videos there as well. Starting from my oldest ones. I am not a big youtuber, I don’t have sponsorships and so, although I am monetized on YouTube I make very little because I do it as a hobby outside of work, son don’t upload to often. I don’t know about the big channels, that do have sponsorships, if they would be limited by that part to post on PeerTube.
