  • I've read elsewhere that he was spreading misinformation -- specifically that is was a MAGA that shot Kirk. which,

1] it is opinion about Trump and MAGA's reaction, not making a statement about the shooter themself.

2] even if he was, it's opinion based on what he knew

3] even if it's wrong, it's free speech

4] even if it's a lie (ie he knows its wrong), that's still constitutionally protected. Fox News even went to the supreme court to protect their right to lie.

If there is one thing in this world that you can depend on, that you can bet your last dollar on, It's the ignorance of the American people.

    But still I have faith.

  • I have had the same experience and its frustrating. I mentioned Trumps claim that all his actions are legal, and his reply was "well it was ok when Biden said it", like a knee-jerk reaction.

I had to JackieChan_WHAT.jpg while driving.

  • Freedom of speech is a broader principle, and existed before the US.

The 1st Amendment ensures our speech is protected from the government; it does not give that right. Our rights are considered "natural rights" and thus law only codifies them; rights are not given to us by the government. Small but important detail.

  • That is a fantastic article, thank you. I don't know if there is a way around the ennui engine, not without massive systemic changes; seems like it's part of human nature. It seems pretty rational too, from an animal-brain point of view ... to take a sure win right now instead of a maybe-win later.

It's unfortunate that this feeds so many people's anger cycle. I wonder if that's cultural.

  • I wonder if the internet culture of sharing has died off somewhat. Old guy here. Are people are so used to consuming they forget about sharing? Or maybe it's just the type of person who uses the internet today is inherently more consumer then early adopters?

In my day a big appeal of the internet was to share things. But now it is to consume things.
