  • Blazing Eye Sees All by Leah Sottile is a great journalistic deep-dive into the history of some major cults and elements shared with the Love Has Won cult. Thoroughly researched and well organized.

New to me, but have been enjoying the Gentlemen Bastard series by Scott Lynch. The Lies of Locke Lamora was great, Red Seas Under Red Skies was still good but not quite as book #1, and I'm still in the thick of The Republic of Thieves.

DNF would be the second book in Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy, Green Mars. I made it through Red Mars, but the constant geographic and topology descriptions give me a headache. Someday I'll go back and power through, because I've enjoyed other KSR books like 2312 and Aurora.

  • On Epic and not Steam, huh? I'm out. Poor decision, Ueda.

  • Destiny 2's future was canceled as of last week. June 9 is the last update the game ever receives, and it's all the balance tweaks the team had been planning for the next year, crammed into one update. Sony is also doing significant layoffs at Bungie following that. I wouldn't call that well.

  • "...still well and alive..." Ouch.

They also had plenty of trouble because of it. They were sued by a writer who claimed they stole their original D2 "Red War" story from him. D2 and its backend have changed so much that Bungie can't actually produce a playable version to show this content in court, and the court ruled that YouTube videos will not suffice. Unable to defend the claims.

  • As someone rather unfamiliar, anyone know how people would be identifying passages that seem like AI? Or have examples of these from the book?

  • Oh for sure. Plenty of other things to be worried about beyond mere voices :)

  • Many of the original cast are regular voice actors in games and animated series. I have zero worries in that regard. They were an extremely talented crew.

  • 90's

    Jump
  • Growing up for the final 6 months of the 90s, you mean? Napster launched June 1, 1999...

  • Scarecrow Video begs to differ! A Seattle movie rental store since the early 80s, now transitioned to a non-profit "museum" (can still rent video) with 147,000+ titles.

  • It is a stupid problem, you're right. So how would you fix it? It's lazy to call out an entire country, including those who actively work against him, as if they all voted in unison for the same thing. As long as you're willing to sit on the outside slinging mud at many people who don't deserve it, people will continue to do the same in return. Grow up.

  • Or electing your own leaders who are willing to stand up to him on a global stage. Half the country did not elect him. There are protests, there are grassroots movements. What else do you recommend? Pretty easy to sit outside and call millions of people morons, including all those who agree with you. Pretty small-minded if you ask me.

  • Weird how the rest of the world hasn't stopped him. Almost as if there are idiots and inaction everywhere.

  • Completely agree on going with the original source. But to be fair, sites like Yahoo and MSN syndicate the vast majority of their content from other news sources like The New Republic, BBC, ABC, etc., meaning they pay to host it on their pages with a wrapper/credit. They're not linkjacking or stealing it in cases like this.

  • Once upon a time I ran a clan in a popular PvE/PvP co-op FPS alien shooter (still going, but has lost its magic). We had a few kinda well-known actors in the group. Shooting aliens one day and bullshitting with one when he gets a call that his best friend and fellow actor/writer OD'ed last night. He didn't leave, and there wasn't anything I could say. We shot aliens in silence for quite a while.

  • Yup that could be. I'm not expecting anything of them.

  • I read 7 minutes, but nonetheless, I just found that recording odd. If you were a tourist there with your phone, you'd be recording the guy you assume to be doing maintenance on a case? I'm not suggesting some plot or conspiracy theory or batshit stuff like that. They stole the stuff and got away with it. I just found that video odd. Regardless, we weren't there and can't know all the ins and outs.

  • True, but that still begs the question, why were they filming that person if they didn't think something was going on? Not that I'd expect a bystander to throw themselves upon a thief, but interesting they still got away after being noticed and filmed during.

  • And someone was just standing there, recording it on their phone? Something not adding up.

  • Questions that only Tucker Carlson would know.
