Hacker Broke into ‘Path of Exile 2’ Admin Account, Hijacked Wave of Characters
The forums for Path of Exile 2 have been awash with people claiming they’ve been hacked and their inventories emptied of valuable items. Now there’s an explanation for at least dozens of the account compromises.
Always online games. What could go wrong?

Hopefully GGG will make premium version of the original POE that allows offline play, LAN/P2P or even self hosting.
Would be nice for game preservation when the original runs out of steam.

Sure would, but I'm going to set my hopes very low for that one. The best way to make this happen would be to only buy and play their competitors that are more future proofed.

Personally I've only ever played POE solo and I think the game holds very well against many premium ARPG titles. When the game reaches its EOL as live service it would be very wastefull for GGG to just drop the game instead of turning it in to a paid standalone title that people can buy and play for as long as they want.

The game is balanced to be played with trading... Oh excuse me, they said: "we don't balance the game for FFS" instead, but you get the point.
It's surely possible, like beating elder ring with a saxophone... Buuuttt, it totally sucks.

Solo Self-Found (SSF) is a thing in Path of exile and usually creating a standalone version like this requires some modifications to the game anyways for it to even run. For example developers behind Warhammer 40000: Inquisitor patched their game so that it can be played offline and even allows players to access old seasonal content (allows picking season when creating new character).

I finally ditched the early access to play Elden Ring for the first time haha. Realized around the Act III ending that it may not be for me due to the reliance on trading. Feels like I can't earn my gear or get excited from the drops. To each their own, though.

It was social engineering.
They compromised a Steam account via steam support to test its password and because it a linked they gained access and modified about 60 accounts.

It'd be worse if the crypto bros got their way and all that shit was stored on a blockchain where it's 1000x harder to undo

In the case of GGG, it's the same picture... They do Jack shit in those circumstances...
Bug, exploit, hack, dup... Fuck all buddy. PoE is a game of chance, a slot machine in disguise...
