    That's not the same claim the title makes. The one the title makes is bullshit (unfortunately). Even this claim is....... not much to celebrate.

    But I also think that's why people making fun of UK on food are wrong, too. Similar there - the food culture is vibrant.

    Also, nice-looking food is nice, but how food tastes is more important to me.

    The problem is tht Kraft singles are not cheese. They are cheese "product". This is cheese-adjacent. Frankly, it's more like a slice of cheese-type sauce, if you will. Good for some things, don't get me wrong, I'm not a snob.

    And yes, you are right, they are American cheese, but........ they are not cheese. But yes, they are also American cheese (while technically not being cheese).

    Basically, Flanders used to sell "burger patties' for VERY cheap. I made the mistake of buying some. After I threw the ones I cooked way, I found that they had beef, but also mechanically separated beef, some other sort of 'reclaimed' beef, as well as beef hearts, liver, and maybe other stuff. All technically food and technically beef, but they were REALLY shitty.........

    Kraft singles are MUCH better than that, but still...... it's not good in all applicatins. heh.

  • Most American cheese sold through the deli will be good. LoL is good brand, Boars Head is good. The "deluxe" versions in the lunchmeat aisle are alright but a bit lower-end.

    It's all about the cheese they use since American cheese is cheese with sodium citrate, that's all.

    Kraft singles are not cheese........... but even they're fine on a burger or whatever application yu don't really care and just want some sort of melty semi-cheesy thing. :)

  • I agree, but also - tomatoes and potatoes are from the Americas - so that pizza in Italy? It is ALSO 'fusion' food.

    That's just how food works. People eat what's available, and more stuff has become available over the past few hundred years. heh.

    I think the whole thing is silly. Enjoy good food! Who cares about the rest?

    And sure, I make authentic creole dishes as well as southern, and some legit texmex. But if I didn't, if I made tasty food, who the hell cares? lol.

  • If you only have Dollar General, you're screwed on food anyway, but if you have a Walmart… imho walmart bakery is quite fine enough for a lot of things. It may not have the cachet of other brands, but it's tasty.

  • I remember the novelty of a chicken ring vending machine at college 35 years ago. Rings instead of nuggets because more dependable on heating, but you'd pay and it would drop the rings into hot oil for an appropriate 3-4 minutes, then dispense in a cup. They were quite passable, and it was nice to have a hot food option next to the cold sandwiches and like cold burgers/burritoes you could heat in the microwave there.

  • Well, the offal is not considered awful by probably more "rural" people, as well as soul food. People who traditionally have been more poor and so make use of more of their resources. heh.

    I don't particularly like chewy gizzards, but I ate them growing up - mom would fry a chicken and out of love fry up the heart, liver, gizzard, and neck and that would be a snack for me. And I love fried chicken livers... it pains me that I can't find a good local source (because I try not to fry - it stinks up the apartment for days - and I've found that fried chicken and livers and certain other fries foods are often better in commercial operations/kitchens). heh.

    Dammit, now I'm craving fried livers! lol

    But......... while you can find chicken feet for sure, and chicken necks, I'm not so sure about chicken heads. I'll grant you that that one goes to my "squick" factor. heh.

    And yes, zacly again, no way we could get impeachment - or rather, the removal part that we actually want, and probably not another impeachment at this point.

    And zacly again, we need to grow DSA / progressives.

    In some ways, it'll be worse in 2028 if we did manage to win both houses - "bUt DeMoCrAtS cOnTroLleD ConGrESs" propaganda would be off the scale. I mean, fascist propagand is off the scale in general, but they'd certainly have a field day with that especially. heh.

    It's bad enough that we have to worry about Dems (much less Progressives) gaining control enough to get anything done (filibuster...... meh......), but if we DO gain control, two or four years later back to Republicans Save The Nation From Democrats Who Can't Do Shit and they sit on their ass and do shit (except they DO give more money to the wealthy again)...... :sigh:
