They really never were. This was a reputation, yes, but it was not warranted. It's taken a hell of a long time for enough people to realize this.

Nothing significant has changed in the last couple of decades, at least. Maybe back into the 60s, 70s, 80s or so, I won't debate. But since the turn fo the century at a minimum, store brands almost always use a producer that produces for name brands. It's often literally the same product. At worst, it might be stuff that didn't quite make the name brand standards, or it might hvae a little less quality or something, but almost all of the time, it's the same thing.

There might be some exception - I certainly haven't tried the myriad of store brands for stores I haven't gone to, but i've been buying mostly store brands for quite a number of years now, and almost all the time, there's no difference.

Like one I can think of: Store-brand "Doritos" might have a bit less "cheese" on them. Or might have the same, depends. Most of the time it's the same thing, though.

  • the most toxic additives.

Food sold in the US or Europe, at least, does not have toxic additives. If you're scared of "chemicals", please for the love of the earth, educate yourself.

  • trying to take them out of the toaster.

    You.... you actually toast them?

I never have consumed them on a regular basis, but I don't think I've ever toasted them a single time. lol

  • SCOTUS clearly will support fascists but will not offer that same protection to non-fascists.

  • the older generations are the driving force behind fascism gaining strength in modern times.

And the older generations of progressives are the driving force behind the progress we've made.

  • Have you seen the automatic bread slicing machines? Maybe we could get them to build one only larger.

Uhh, I see that's what Youtube returned to Lemmy's request for "WTF is this link?". lol. Youtube is on crack.

  • ahhh, "concept of a plan" slipped my mind. heh. Thank you for the reminder.

And people vote for that shit! D:

  • But I ain't in no desert, I don't know what them cactus things is!

    ;-)

  • Oh hell naw, hitting that downvote on actuall asshats is what I live for. ;-)

  • I'd rather vote for someone that just stands up for human rights… which is not to say I disagree with the emotion of your comment. :)

  • Y'know, I closed the thread but I've opened it back up just to reply to this a little bit. Not much, but a little.

In brief: Going after 'boomers' is like going after white people for racism. Yes a lot of racism is white, but not just white and not all white is.

If you look at stats, you'll find a surprising number of 'boomers' are progressive. And with all the "let them die off" talk, you really risk missing the stats on younger people, which are starting to skew more fascist that perhaps you realize.

The problem is not going to die off. It is pervasive across all ages of people. And yes, a lot more boomers are asshats than younger generations. But if you write off "old people" all in one go, you lose out on a lot of support that's there as well as remain ignorant of the younger people coming up dredged in fascism.

So I'm not intending to be critical of you, just hopefully give you something to consider. Now that I said it, do with it as you will. lol. Just that writing off older generations like older people will often write off younger generations seems to me to be a distraction from the real issues. :)

  • Can a court allow us some access to a few guillotines?

  • Cuteness overload. Bugger off, I'm jealous. lol. <3 <3 <3

  • How many of them will even hear of this number?

You know the answer: The Republicans who were impacted will line up and vote for the only party they feel¹ cares about them at all, even though they feel that neither party truly cares about them.

Fucking fascist propaganda for decades has done its dirty work well.

    ¹ emphasis on "feel"

  • Excuse me, but I have it on good authority¹ that they'll have a plan in two weeks. You can't wait two weeks for them to come up with a plan? C'mon, two weeks!

¹ What do you mean Trump isn't a good authority?

  • Gave you an upvote b/c I disagree with downvoting people stating what is likely true.

Thank you for this and I did the same. It's frustrating seeing Lemmy downvote emotionally - happens in a lot of threads.

And I only use the collective like that because it's just a common behaviour. Not everyone does it, for sure.

But it happens. There was one annoying day a week or two ago where I piped up in mulitple threads because there was a lot of emotionally-satisfying but factually-wrong information. And I was just like "I know everyone hates [thing], but look, you gotta bear in mind [information usually with sources]" and was getting downvoted to oblivion. I understand, we all hate stuff and we get these notions about things that are wrong and popularly so - I'm not immune! I know I support some stupid stuff, although I try to keep an open mind and change with new info - but I'm still sure there are things I will downvote people for presenting stupid opinions and they're right and I'm wrong....... So the point is that I get it why people downvote like that...... but it's still super frustrating to be on the other side of it, being a lightning rod for peoples' frustration with the topic just because you're presenting information that goes slightly or partly against the emotions. lol

  • People have been fed up for a long time and looking for change. That's what helped Obama win in 2008. Alas, the propaganda from the fascists has been pervasive since long before that, so a lot of the people fed up for now decades have been deluded into voting for what continues to make things worse.

It's not just that a lot of the establishment Dems are not only behind the times but also beholden to corporate money, dragging them right-wing; but also, even shit they DO get done always gets minimized in the media (largely owned by oligarchs who benefit from fascist laws and tax cuts) while the fascists get a lot of passes in the media for those same reasons.

I think there are a number of countries out there showing that properly regulated capitalism is probably the best practical system we have. But it has to be properly regulated. And it is a constant fight. Laws matter little if people ignore them and nobody enforces them. So no matter what system is set in place, there will always be a fight by people to corrupt it.

And the point about social changes is also true. I have my wife, and two real friends. A few acquaintences I chat with every few weeks. A few people I keep up with online but mostly in shared projects, not socially. Much of my family I've had to block for political reasons, so I have my dad and one uncle left. My stepmom, but I was an adult when lost mom and dad remarried - she's really sweet and I adore her but just don't talk much.

I think something like that - that lack of people - is probably true for most. We used to be forced to deal with our neighbors because most people didn't move around much, so for a lot of people, you'd spend decades in the same place. With the rise of communications making it easier to keep in touch remotely, it's definitely radically shifted our social construct.

I think that's one reason - when people say "all this talk online does nothing" - but this is the last marketplace of ideas we have. This is where we have left to organize. So like-minded people have to find each other somehow, and then hopefully organize on the local, regional, national levels. Because we need to organize to have protests. And protests need to happen until everyone sees there are enough of us that demand change that we can enforce that demand. So it's like an effort that must be ramped up, and talking online is the critical foundation for that, even though it's useless until we get there.

  • If you hate establishment Dems, voting in the primary is so very critical. And more than that, speaking up and volunteering to text people and go door-to-door if you can - provide whatever support you can BEFORE the primary, then vote in the primary.

And then, of course, vote int he general because no matter which one won the primary, establishment Dems still end up doing more for human rights than fascists.

But yeah - those who only complain in the general and worse, don't bother to vote in the general after not doing anything before either............. they are part of the problem.
