  • Seriously, who under 30 or even 40 uses email for communicating with people on a regular basis? Email for me is just for two-factor authentication, notifications for everything that isn't installed as an app on my phone, and spam. I barely ever send anything to anybody. My "sent" folder has maybe 100 things in there from the last 10 years.

Also, it's not about them replying, it's about sending a message. They need a signal to see how people are responding to things. A finger on the pulse so to speak. Right now, they only get signals from nutters on Xitter and geriatrics on Facebook. Politics are a big subject on the fediverse and beyond, but politicians barely ever know of it unless a news article comes out about it. Maybe they pay some company to do analysis of what people are saying (Cambridge Analytica), but they aren't directly exposed to it.

Politicians were surprised during the chat control vote when they suddenly got emails thanks to https://fightchatcontrol.eu/ and were saying "it's undemocratic". That was however exactly how democracy should work: they suddenly "heard" the voices of people, not lobbyists and were flabberghasted by the fact. We need more people in the face of politicians, virtually and physically.

  • Wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Or did someone nibble on your butthole while you were asleep? Jerk off, or something, it'll help release that aggression you have. It isn't healthy, hun.

  • The University of York in the UK uses it to mean that the student is being assessed and writing answers to the questions posed in the exam.

  • That's British: see the University of York using the expression. For the USAians out there, it means to "take" the exam.

  • Where is the error?

  • The leaked papers are the tip of the iceberg, the straw that broke the camel's back, the catalyst. It's representative of a broken system.

Whether the cockroach movement will continue to exist, who knows. Their principal demand was the sacking of the education minister. They also want a better education system, but they are hoping the next education minister will do that for them.

  • About fucking time. Fat pricks like Orban shouldn't be able to hold up 26 other nations because of their extra-national dick-sucking abilities.

  • The problem is created by a bad education system. Testing is part of the education system. Making it mandatory to take this test and giving privileged access to preparation is a problem of the government that should be fixed. If you look at the wikipedia article, there is another incident, just like this one, that happened in 2024. The ousted education minister was the minister back then and nothing improved.

The problems are systemic and should've been tackled by the education minister, which is why he was forced to leave.

  • I see, that's understandable. We all have pet-peeves. Mine is the date format in the US that has spread month-day-year. Most of Europe is day-month-year and it's very confusing when people start adopting US formats because they watch so much stuff from the US.

  • I am being kind and not assuming I know what they mean. I'm willing to explain the English if that's the problem.

You're not being kind by assuming I want to insult them.

  • USAian defaultism is always hilarious

  • Now they just have to fix their education system. But this is a good first step. It shows that protesting and demonstrating can lead to change.

  • Correlation doesn't mean causation (if what you say is even true).

  • Are you having trouble with the English or the lack of specificity regarding the amount of the fee?

  • USAians do have trouble with the English language.

  • Not to take away from the achievement, but how long can heat be stored though? Isn't pumped hydro a better solution?

  • I thought it was like pumped hydro but using sand! Now I'm disappointed. Still cool though, but storing heat is not a long-term solution, is it?

  • Thanks. I don't know why the survey didn't just show all and then give you the option to give your opinion all at once, nor why they didn't link to this page.
