It'll take a war for the conservative German government to invest in infrastructure. We live in crazy times. Maybe we should be thanking Putin because the German voters couldn't get their government to invest in doodoo if it involved infrastructure. This is definitely one of the advantages of living in Europe - stores can be right beside the apartment thanks to mixed use development. I had flat mates who went to the store every day because it was just 100m from the apartment. They got to know the retail workers, store owners, waiters, and so on. We had bar maids and bar men in the flat, we would encounter retail workers in local bars after shop close, talk to them while shopping, and so on. Asking them on a date wasn't a problem - we were all adults and rejections did happen.

That's a US thing. In Europe, it's fine. Retail workers aren't forced to be nice to you and can easily tell you to fuck off if they want. They aren't slaves to the general public.

It's a tragic truth that the less happy a person seems, the less likely it is for them to find a partner, which only makes the situation worse. My only advice: learn to be happy by yourself. Learn to let go of expectations of others, they're human and just like you (and I) full of errors.

Mexico, Canada, and Greenland are more likely. NK has Chinese protection, Cuba is of no strategic nor resource value, and Iran... I disagree. We need a united front against the US and other powers. Especially our outwards responses are mired in long discussions where every country needs to have a say. We need a federal or super-national entity that decides upon these things without requiring every grain of sand to have input.

If we remain sovereign states, we will never see ourselves as "Europeans" but "French", "German", "Slovakian", etc. We don't have a "European" passport and it shows. There is no European identity just a mashup of multiple countries that think about themselves first and Europe second.

Be the change you want to see in the world. Sometimes it has to be introduced slowly and with compassion, sometimes it has to be radical as it can be urgent. Even in African villages where men are committing suicide, they create safe spaces to talk about their feelings. (I think this is one of the videos on the topic - can't watch it due to age gate).

It's not easy and everybody's path is different. If you can't find somebody locally (friend(s) or therapist), you can start online. It helped me too. But always try and stay critical. Many self-help groups for me are taken over by right-wingers who say "you can be yourself here", make men feel safe and then give them a scapegoat (immigrants, women, whatever) and spread hate towards other groups.

I was very lucky to grow up in the environment and places I did, and recognise that not everybody can be so lucky.

It doesn't have to be sabotage resistant, it has to be disaster resistant. A single backup line is a joke. With a nationwide fiber network, there would be thousands of backup lines. A single one speaks volumes about German investment in infrastructure.

Just how bad is Germany at redundancy? In 2022 just 2 fiber optic cables had to be cut to put the entire German railway in northern Germany out of commission (source).

Maybe Russia should cut more cables to expose the faults in Germany's infrastructure. It's hilarious.
