  • No one will stick their neck out for the US. Trump must step down and return sanity to America. This doesn't fix relations, but it may signal the begining of a return to a healing position. Over a very long time, 50 years, the US may gradually recover some of that lost trust.

Hard to earn. Easy to lose. Even harder to win back. America, you played yourself.

  • Trump: I'll trade you a shitshow of stupidity and backstabbing friends while rivals watch me smear shit on my face and I blow my enemies. In exchange I burn my country to the ground for no reason.

    China: Deal

    Americans: Deal

    Russians: Deal

Rest of the world: WTF!!! Ah, fuckit. Deal.

  • It's a largely hollow threat. The US doesn't have the talent to absorb these businesses operations and they can't import talent because not a lot educated talented people want to live in a fascist shithole where the local shooting range is your kids school, and you'll get deported to a foreign prison.

America's pull of global talent is now a push. Academics and MDs are fleeing a country that is self immolating.

  • Some of us buy bulk green beans, roast at home on demand, hand grind, then make pour-over and espresso with a manual press. Then make espresso based drinks and spiced coffee on occasion. Mix of overspending, diy and slow food movement.

My coffee habits would have bankrupted me if I went to cafés. I'm not saving any money with all the doodads I bought, but my quality of life is fantastic for the price.

BRB, going to make a cortado.

  • I had a lot of fun talking to one about how we could fully electrify a hobby farm without batteries, by using a high voltage DC overhead wire on a cable pulley system. Everything from electrical engineering, to cable selection, sourcing vendors and costs.

Mistakes were made, but it was genuinely helpful at times. I was impressed at how far it has come.

  • I respect what you are saying, and agree our LLM are just superficial pseudo communication engines. Theories of intelligence differ, but I don't think human intelligence, i.e. IQ of 100 is really all that far ahead of LLM. Just talk to your average person. We are easily wrong. We have bias and error. We repeat and amplify untruths and make mistakes.

It could be fewer breakthoughs than you think to get there. Not because the tech is so advanced, but because we are not that special.

    Super-intelligence is just degrees better.
