  • It definitely would in rural areas. And aside from birds, it’s helpful for the insect population in any backyard to have the lights off.

Plastic straws were a drop in the bucket, but rather than going back to them, we should be taking more steps forward (ex plastic cutlery, disposable cups, etc). I’d rather see baby steps forward than throw in the towel because the problem is so big

  • Bonk.

  • I went to an alligator themed tourist attraction in Florida years ago where a man would hover his hand inside an alligator’s mouth - he claimed that if you don’t touch their palate, the alligator’s bite reflex will not be triggered.

Now this man had about 4 fingers on both of his hands combined, so take from that what you will…

  • For anyone in NE North America, our native Golden Alexander plant can be eaten in a similar way and tastes quite a bit like broccoli. As a bonus, it’s a host plant for black swallowtail butterflies, so it’s a wonderful addition to the garden!

  • Will anything cause a revolution?

From an outside-the-US perspective, it feels as though every incremental assault the USA’s constitution is met with a bit of tut-tutting and complaining about why elected members don’t fix things, then back to apathy 48 hours later.

  • You can’t wait for the media, because the media is largely owned by the far right.

They make highly inflammatory right leaning news programs, and highly complacent left leaning news programs. It keeps the right active and angry, and tells the left to sit down and fret quietly while waiting for due process to solve problems.

Found a Lot of Canadian Groceries Today - Retailers Seem to be Noticing

If I compare trying to buy as much Canadian product as possible, it was far easier today than a month ago. La Cocina tortillas sit on the top shelf of the tortilla area, Covered Bridge and Hawkins rest in the high traffic chip aisle among the big companies. This store now carries 6 flavours of Sprague soup instead of one.

Some products were always there, but it was a lot less digging today!

  • Yikes, Reddit is slowly killing itself. I remember years ago it was more the opposite - there were some seriously disturbing subs because they didn’t want any censorship. Now the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction and it’s hard to say anything of substance without getting warned or banned

Moss Berry Jam from Stratford, Ontario

Sharing this delicious jam from family-run Moss Berry Farm in Stratford, Ontario.

Fruit is grown by their farm and other nearby farms, and all products are made in Canada. Picked up these two excellent jams today, but the chutneys (mango, apple tamarind) are also worth your time!
