I watched it all go down too. I even read reason and thought it was reasonable. I would even use cato as a reference.
After the bail outs I was sick of the political status quo too so I started doing my own research and reading. That’s when I found the Libertarian party of US.
That year Gary Johnson was running and there was a lot of debate about open borders, pro-choice, and Just general libertarian ideology. So i soaked it all in.
Then I came across Oscar Wilde’s soul of man under socialism which really opened my eyes to post scarcity life. I was shocked to realize that capitalism wasn’t freedom at all. That we are all lied to think this is how it’s supposed to be. The word libertarian means something completely different elsewhere in the world.
That’s when everything that I thought was libertarian started to become what it is now, cesspool of hate.
I mean conservatives have always been masquerading as (L)ibertarians since 1971 here in the US.

Actual libertarianism is open border like you know people who want to do business here have every right to, and for those “illegals” that commit crimes you have the guns.

Yea while we were in alaska we were capped. we were in fairbanks as well, which isn't that rural. I lived in the high desert of california. drive 20 min from hesperia to phelan and you could probably get meth easier than consistent internet.

So you're implying that people regularly make $1,000,000 in annual income by working? Only about 150,000 people in the US make that much. It's their money.

I lived in conservative california and that sounds about right. Only thing that kept us alive was that my spouse happens to be a vet and we're asian so we get a pass. We lived there for a while until my spouse got a job after covid. They literally think that it's a warzone out there. So much bullshit spread about the city. Of course the news just fans the flames.
This lady I knew never went to the fashion district in LA because she pretty much believed that her blond and blue eyed kids would be snatched off the streets by minorities. The ironic thing is that we lived off the I-15 which is a huge human trafficking corridor so the kidnapping would have more likely happened closer to where they live. Also phelan is full of meth heads but you know, that doesn't matter.

I think the whole thing is that your instance can defederate so even if there were things like that existing you wouldn’t see it. There are plenty of instances that’s not federated with lemmy.ml i believe.
I am not technical however I can follow instructions very well. When people were migrating i read a bunch of the stuff and finally got here.
