I used to like Hacker News. Then I started reading the unhinged comments that people leave on there, and immediately stopped using the site. I really only went there because of The Brutalist Report, but still. Fuck that, and those out of touch assholes.
I used to look into conspiracy stuff, and came out laughing at them after seeing the first tRump presidency, and realizing the government isn't even smart enough to handle actual problems, let alone a "NWO" ("New World Order"). Sorry guys, incompetence all the way up!
P.S. I never fully believed them, but some of the stuff was interesting to think about at the least. Now, I don't ever care about them because they make less sense than ever. Jewish space lasers, amiright?
tal, good to see you! I remember you for the "kagis real quick" comments you've left before! I actually started using Kagi because of you, and the assistant was a great help in getting my TrueNAS Scale setup, among many many other things. I actually love searching for things (most of the time) now! Thank you for enlightening me! :)
As the poster above stated, permissions and the way things are explained for those permissions or the settings in general are vague as fuck to someone who has just now dipped their toes into the OS. It's a headache to learn, but once you get it setup (I recommend using Obsidian to keep some notes for your future self on how you set it up) it does relatively work absolutely fine.
Is there any thing in particular you need info on? I used Kagi Assistant during the moments where I didn't fully understand why things were the way they were, i.e. "I want to use this like I use my Synology, what the hell is an ACL??". I may be able to fumble you along like I did myself! :P
EDIT: I guess I could actually try to answer your question. What I did was create my own admin account and group and named them my name. After creating them, I logged into my newly made account (or tried to!) until I realized I didn't have the same permissions as the TrueNAS_admin account, so I essentially copied those. I then logged in successfully this time, so I made sure I could do what I could do on the admin account. I could, so I then made sure the truenas_admin account was disabled. (or, I believe I did. I may not have, so look into that before you try it). Then I used Kagi Assistant to give me a general overview of what permissions my admin account should have so that I can always access whatever the hell I want on my own setup. I am at work right now, but I wrote down the list of groups that you would add to your Auxiliary Groups. Some that I do remember are: apps, libvert (and the other virt. These are needed for you to use the NAS as a VM, which I did want to try out since my Synology is way too under powered for any real VM tinkering) and whatever groups the truenas_admin account has. If you'd like the full list, I can try to remember to give it to you, but once I am home, I usually have too much going on for me to remember things.
After that, I am actually able to do mostly what I want for my own setup. I'm a single person using it all the time, so your mileage and needs will probably vary. :)
I'm using TrueNAS Scale right now on my second server (landfill bound, offered money for it, got it for free baby!) which was just some Dell computer from some older people who bought a brand new computer because this one was "not letting them install stuff". The permissions, and the way things are explained for the settings/permissions, are AWFUL for someone who has just now dipped their toes into this OS.
TrueNAS Scale is great for what it is, but please be ready for some headaches if you're fresh into the scene. I still recommend it for now.
Not to be that person or anything, but the rule of law is almost dead here in the States. Especially when the current "admin" is ignoring laws to begin with. Stand your ground people, help any who might need it.
The problem with using flat pack version of Steam for me was the weird folder structure for installing games. I like my stuff to be easy to remember and human readable. I.e. Home/Games instead of 726284783/737384/*installed game

MSN is also terrible about this shit. I turned off their new tab garbage and replaced it with Bonjourr right before the election because of all the misinformation it was showing. Crazy we just accept this shit man.
As for YouTube, this is very easy to verify. Sign out of YouTube > CTRL+F5 > look at the top viewed videos
You will see what garbage most of the populace sees when they go to YouTube without logging in. I believe this is the real reason they don’t care if people log in or not. They can push the narrative while seeming like they’re being good guys by allowing you to consume content “for free”.
White collar crime is always ignored as long as it doesn’t rock the boat too much or isn’t stealing money from the wealthy.

Bought a Roku back in 2020 or 2021 because the Apple TV was more expensive.
Now I know why.
For what it is worth, I have Roku set up as a REGEX in my Pi-hole so for the most part, any of this nonsense is completely blocked on my Roku.
Needless to say, I shouldn’t have to do this shit with a device I paid for and mainly use for Plex streaming.
Yeah, I’ve never liked timed anything in video games. I’m playing video games to escape, not stress about missing something that could be important. I’m supportive of adding a toggle that gives the player the option on if they want timed quests or not.
I know it’s not the old school version they’re after (I believe they’re going for RuneScape 1?) but 2009scape exists for anyone else interested. Fully playable offline in single player mode, with bots as other “players”, plenty of options like GE buying and selling for the bots, and others. You can also play with other real players by using the launcher too, but I’ve only tried it in single player due to me just trying to scratch that RuneScape itch! Haha!

You might be thinking about the EU court battle, and I believe they did finally allow other engines. I also haven’t kept up with it, so that could be outdated information!
