  • Yast and the snapshots are exactly what has kept me on it the most. Borked install after zypper dup? No problem! Rollback!

Not as comfortable with command line? Yast it is!

Still confusing sometimes, and sometimes how “locked down” it is makes my tasks a little harder, but solid and stable win at the end of the day!

  • I wish I would’ve known that before I made it my permanent distro! It’s the first distro to actually get me to stop trying others and really buckle down and learn. I’ve learned a lot, but still consider myself very much a Linux noob!

  • I just watched this yesterday!

Drew made some very good points while still being understandable enough to those that aren't as up to par with what is going wrong in the world. Really well done video, and so was his gambling dilemma video!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • I was only there for two months before they shuttered, unfortunately, so I was not able to meet many of those. It didn't help with that matter that it was completely remote work. :(

  • We only shoot Brave on sight because there are a myriad of reasons why Brave (which is just another crappy chromium browser) is a very bad browser. I’ve given a few links just a week ago that goes into great detail on why it is a shitty browser run by a shady corpo. Let me know if you’d like to read them, and I’ll gladly share them here in an EDIT. :)

  • Yeah, the firmware lock is some crazy bullshit. My old job was dissolved which means I get to have a perfectly usable iMac but… oh wait. I can’t do anything with it because of the firmware lock and I can’t return it because the company literally shuttered. So, I keep it for the day that MAYBE I will be able to use it. LOL

  • Of course! I'd rather send links to someone than sit there and just downvote and move on, even if said person ignores every thing I sent. I tried to help!

My go to is this: Is it Chromium? Move on!

I want to see more Gecko and Webkit browsers than yet another freaking Chromium browser!

The Chinese ownership is stated in the "opera is shady as fuck!" link I sent! When you have time, and if you care enough, I'd recommend looking at the myriad reasons why they are both just really bad browsers, even for someone who can ignore the crypto garbage!

Anyway, have a good rest of your day, Jack! :)

  • Instead of downvoting you, as is the style on these types of platforms it seems… I’ll actually try to link a few websites. One moment.

    EDIT:

Crypto is dumb and bad for the environment

"reward" system, which is not cool

Further issues some have with the browser

And really, it is just YET ANOTHER Chromium browser, which gives Google MORE dominance on the web, which is a really really BAD thing. They are the ones who are trying everything in their power to not only siphon data off of you to sell to shady businesses, but also don't like how we can block ads, which I care the most about, personally. I'm sure there are plenty more people who are way more knowledgeable than I that can explain the domino effect of what happens when a company has total domination in a field, be it technology or otherwise.

EDIT2: Opera (and Opera GX) for those that like it for some reason...

Opera is shady as fuck too!

  • That’s what I was afraid of. I was hoping to at least get a big generational upgrade.

I’m going to wait and see how AMD handles this new GPU, and if it continues to be available in a few months at a good price, I might consider moving to them since nvidia is more focused on fake frames.

Sigh… PC gaming used to be a little more accessible. :’(

  • EDIT: forgot to add that I’m a 1080p gamer since 1440 and 4K are more demanding.

I currently have a 2080ti that I got all the way back in 2020. It’s been a fantastic card, but with some of these newer games, I’m struggling to get an even 60 at the least.

I’m sure that’s largely in part to developers/publishers not even remotely trying to optimize their games.

I’m lucky enough to play mainly all the older games in my Steam library, so it will last me a few more years I’m sure, but the sooner I can upgrade (at a reasonable price) the better so I can not worry about it for another 5 years. :’)
