Big nerd. Big fan of cool open source stuff. Generally queer. (He/him)

  • That's the fun part!

  • That's not really a thing neoliberals say...

They definitely complain about the tankies being a big part of the culture of Lemmy, and housing some of the biggest communities, but the statement in the comic isn't even remotely a thing neolibs or the .world demographic says

So this comic kinda just feels like a strange, confusing straw man...

  • A well written article, thank you for sharing. I think this did a better job of characterizing why people are so frustrated than most things I've seen.

There's been lots of critisisms of how callus the collective response has been, but at it's core, the anger folks have really isn't about worshipping a killer, it's about how humanity seems to belong exclusively to the rich. All while they systematically deprive the poor of their basic human dignity and at times, even lives.

  • If you move sim racing, would you mind replying to me to let me know? I follow the current one just cause I think sim racing is neat. If it gets moved I'd love to follow the new one

(Totally fine if that's too much work :)

  • I appreciate you mentioning that, thats how I'm considering using the 5 if it ends up as my phone replacement, but I have a hard time interpreting the info around wireless frequency bandwidths supported 🙃 I like pretty user interfaces, networking hurts my brain

  • I think the point they're making is that updates don't help sell more phones, and selling new phones with contracts is how they make money

  • I think thats orzo?

  • Unix is a specific operating system, and there are a lot of operating systems based on it or derived from it (Linux, MacOS, BSD, and both Android and ChromeOS which are based on the linux kernel)

Here's a handy link to the Wikipedia page for unix. You may find the intro & history sections more useful than the stuff about what Unix is from a technical perspective, or how it works.

This may be sacrilege, but I don't mind seeing someone's Windows customizations here, though its not what the community is intended for

  • Good bot :)

  • Lol, yeah as much as I love the fediverse there are definitely some interesting implications to the way it all works

    Have a good one!

  • Thanks for sharing your perspectives, I can't say I agree with you on quite everything (though I do agree with the majority), but I appreciate your explaining how you and others see the world. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

Link for those who might be looking for his comment https://hexbear.net/comment/3765816

Edit: if anyone knows how to link to the comment in an instance agnostic way I'd be interested to know about it :)

  • If you're offering to explain the perspectives behind those sentiments I'd be interested to better understand.

If context is helpful, I'm somewhere left of centrist, and generally abhore the Russian and Chinese governments. I tend to be socially progressive, and anti-authoritarian, but my perspectives in other political arenas are less well formed

  • Everything in this post describing your choice, to me affirms that I have found the right instance to make home. Thank you for your transparency and sharing how your background influences your perspective. Thank you for engaging in healthy reasonable discourse with those using the hammer and sicle (not a communist, but discussion of political ideologies is important and shouldn't be censored). The ways and places where you chose to draw the line show, to me, a lot of integrity and I greatly appreciate and admire your willingness to engage with perspectives other than your own while remaining intolerant of bigotry- I think that balance is something perhaps everyone could aspire to doing better.

For my two cents- soon lemmy overall will have the option for accounts to defederate as they please, giving a good option to those who would like to avoid this community. I support the decision to stay federated, and I support lemmy adding more tools for users to moderate what they want to be exposed to.

I really appreciate that this instance generally favors letting me filter out what I don't want to see for myself instead of making that choice for me. I just moved from lemmy.world and I really appreciate the transparency in communication, and the focus on remaining federated with other communities. Thanks for facilitating this community space!

  • Very helpful, thank you for the link!

  • Thats super helpful, thanks for the link!

  • Anyone know what the beeper monetization model is? This is super cool, but I'm not sure how the company intends to monetize this, which always makes me a bit nervous

  • Oh shit, thats pretty dope

  • Well thats horrifying 😐

  • Oh, Yeah I agree. I was referring to the mods who decided to ban the piracy communities, not the bigoted guy who loves intellectual property law
