  • How many users are actually working in a company that uses Adobe? Aren't most users just casual, or even if they make money of art, working solo? (So, no need to conforme to an industry standard)

I might be totally wrong tho

  • It always was. The "problem" is that there's not 10% of what you can find on Bluesky (well, at least for my interests), sadly. It's less worse than say, Peertube vs YouTube but still, last time I tried to dig I didn't find much. i still use it tho, but I'm following like 3 accounts is a hundred on BS. I'll try and dig a bit more again today.

  • Yeesh. A paid service and they don't even have a comment section (plus there doesn't seem to be a lot of videos on a few subjects I like)? Don't wanna be a crybaby but they're really making things harder.

  • It's harder than that IMO. There are plenty alternatives to many bad things but people just don't care. Just like Linux, for the average person that's got enough shit to deal with, they don't wanna add what they perceive like a difficulty and remove comfort by having to start from scratch with less options. Also, being cut from the mainstream trends, and the general social thing.

Not speaking for me as I've been mostly degoogling and demicrosofting, even tho I still partly feeling like that for YouTube that's been a very valuable part of my life (yes. I do read and go outside. But please stop suggesting that to people in such threads, that's missing the point), and that I couldn't let go off yet. Alternatives rn are either totally devoid of content (at least, the one I like), or paid (didn't gave a shot to Nebula, I'll browse it and see, but it might be hard to beat both my favorite creators I spent years curating, and the fact that you can find anything on any obscure thing)

  • I've tought about TTS options. I could probably make some kind of more private workaround with it, by using DDG chat AI, or whatever else that's not the official ChatGPT app

What are you even using GPT for? Asking information, offering options, comparisons

  • You say it dictates what you think, do you have difficulty parsing your own thoughts?

Kind of Supposedly ADHD, anxiety, and other things Dictate via microphone helps in many ways for me

    I don’t think it’s a good tool for introspection

I don't really use it for introspection, always for information

Good thinking, thanks, I do still read tho, no worries (might not seem like it in my writing, english is not my first language). I've never been a writer, I'm usually into forms of expression that are more direct to me, like drawing and music

  • Thanks In a way I did still change a lot of habits. This on the other does feel like giving up a huge fight and making my brain think that I actually don't care about privacy/Foss at all, I'm usually not a "all or nothing" type of person, but it's a bit hard to wrap my head around this time

  • Not saying it's the only option. But it certainly is one, and well, technology evolve, and lures us in seductive ways into giving up on efforts and all...that's the problem I'm fighting against

  • Those seem like good advice, but when I was saying dictate, I was just talking about sending my requests to the chatbot app via microphone, not writing. I tend to be super adhd-y, forget things, be overwhelmed, get into sideway things, and having a quick way to ask this or that, while thinking out loud, is kinda what helps me. But yes, in a way, some sort of journaling, trying to focus and slowing down would help me.

  • In the end you're right, but as I was answering in another post, AI seems so big for the future and potentially invasive, that if I start giving this up, not having a google account or whatever, to me, would seem like nothing in comparison, if I'm trying to maintain a relative degree of privacy. So I feel like it's not giving up a bit of my infos, but probably all of it, specially when using an app. Not sure if I'm making sense. But it's like "ok, I won't give this man my info". "This other man, on the other hand, can live in my house and listen to everything"

  • I am definitely leaning on AI quite a bit lately. I ask and check sources now and then tho.

Side thinking, but I'm ot sure how we'll see this problem in the future, when/if AI is "guaranteed" to basically never get things wrong. It's the same with GPS/Maps software, since you're talking about it. I've always been way worse than average to situate myself in space (? sorry, bad english probably), and GPS helps me immensely, me and my anxiety (and even then, I still manage to get stressed and miss things sometimes lol), it's basically right most of the time as far as I know. Now IA being "always right" (let's simplify) would have other consequences entirely, since it touches way more aspects of what we do as humans.

Not sure what to think from here, but yes, I'm definitely checking sources for important things, and restraining myself to not type every request I'm looking for into a chatbot.

  • I have been suggested to self host in the past. But as I'm concerned for ecology, and let's be a honest, a bit of my money too, I've thought that self hosting, meaning having the PC always on, was not a good thing. So I left the dilemma in this state, not knowing how "bad" this would actually be in terms of electric consumption, and if it was worth the trade with privacy or not.

I'm using AI and I feel terrible now

I've been digging into the rabbit hole for a few months. Been switching to Linux, FOSS everything I can, trying to go to smaller sites, the least dubious social media, VPN, trusted mail, etc etc

But lately I've been in a rough state mentally (I say lately but it's always been with me) and having GPT guide me and being able to just dictate what I think helps me a lot on various levels, for various reasons.
But at this point, using ChatGPT with a mic, isn't this basically cancelling every effort I've made? (using it in the first place anyway) I'm weak and it helps me, should I just throw my efforts out of the window and just say I don't care about privacy anymore and use whatever everyone uses? (on one hand, I've found alternatives for almost everything, so I could keep on using those, but also, again, if I keep on using GPT on a regular basis, this is probably the worst threat the future has to offer in termes of privacy, so...I'm lost)

  • Molly White, who writes the Citation Needed newsletter and Web3 is Going Just Great blog, described this as “a good proposal,” and said it was “weird to see people flaming BlueSky for it,” since it’s not so much “welcoming in AI scraping” but rather “trying to add a consent signal to allow users to communicate preferences for the scraping that is already happening.”

That being said, yes, not great

We probably can't escape Ai everywhere, let's face it But most people won't care like they didn't care about their data in general before AI

I'm already using Mastodon in parallel, but I must admit I couldn't find a lot of people to follow...maybe gotta look harder, but I have to admit it doesn't seem as easy as it does on BS

If I can't install Graphene, is Calyx still ok?

The only Pixel I have is a Pixel 3XL which is not supported anymore for updates. A few questions. does that mean at some point you have to buy a new phone all the time? How long are they supported, do I need the buy the newest one everytime to have a decently long support? If I can install Calyx, but have already degoogled my phone, is Calyx still useful? But I suppose at this point it's still better to get a Pixel anyway and install Graphene which is supposedly better? how risky is it to run an unsupported phone like my Pixel 3XL? What can happen?

  • I don't know how far in the rabbithole I am, but at this point I feel like it's nearly impossible to find a company that doesn't have dirt on it in one way or another. There are alternatives in some domains, but for search engines, it's really narrowed down to Brave (which also have some not very nice people in it) and Duck duck go, which uses Bing. Which is basically pointless to me, not even talking about using UE products, for me, the best way to get some fresh air is to have companies that have their own search engines (so, not Bing or Google, this is why I don't use alternatives like Starpage or Searx) There's Mojeek, yes, but last time I used it, it was...really bad. I still encourage them tho! I'll give it another shot now.

  • You look for a images

You get recomanded other similar images (thus engaging to a pleasant, but dangerous endless scrolling)

You can pin you images on "boards" (for instance I have one for fashion, illustration, etc)

There's probably a workaround to make something similar available online, but I didn't look info it do far
