James seems like the least nerdy of the names that have common nicknames. Richard is another one that's not nerdy.

Same with Robert.

If you're feeling whimsical, is it Robby or Robbie?
- And if you're transitioning, you should probably avoid picking the name Margot
  
  Funny enough, Margot is part of a family of names that's even bigger than James and Robert.
  Margot, Marjorie, Marge, Greta, Rita, Megan, Maggie, Gretchen, Maisie, Molly, Peggy... It's not a comprehensive list, but the uniting feature is that all of these names are considered variants of "Margaret."
- Don't forget Bobby, Boberino, and the unsung classic Bert.

- that's a good reason to go by Jamie. Jamie Jones sounds nice.

In the UK at least, 'Jay' is also commonly used for James. Not a bad choice. In addition, James Bond would like word about 'Nerdy' !

I knew a Jimbo. Best friend for like half a decade. Dude def lived up to his name. Hope he's doing well.

Any Australians out there able to comment to tell us if Jim-o is a valid nickname?
- It doesn’t matter if it’s valid or not aussies will turn anything into a nickname
- Nope. We usually shorten the last name instead if it doesn't roll off the tongue easily. Or we name them after a beloved fictional character, eg. jimbob.

William has it better. Will, Willy, Willis, Willie, Buddy, Bud, Bill, Billy, and Liam. Willa, Wilhemenia, Wilma, and Billie for the ladies.
