That's because conservative voters are stupid.
- "Stupid," nah. Bigoted, yeah. Conservatives never feel safe when their homogeneous neighborhoods are invader by others.

  Food bank usage skyrocketing and more people living in rest stops probably does lead to crime.
  On account of accepting 1.5 million people a year into an existing housing shortage.
  Not the immigrants fault, we did it to prop up asset values. Along with buying 50% of all mortgage bonds federally, extending amortizations, and ignoring developer fees and sprawled zoning.
- And afraid of everyone that doesn't look just like them.
  
  White, cis, heterosexuals. Yep. Sad that such a small thing like homosexuality is such a huge issue with them. They don't know what they're missing out on.
- This is a meaningless statement that is asserted not for the information it conveys but for how it makes you feel. It doesn't give you insight into the problem or reveal solutions to it, it just manages your emotions. In fact, this hypothesis takes you and everyone present further from meaningful human connections.

If my memory does not fail me, there was research associating some kinds of threat and anxiety with conservative voters.
The politicians' playbook seems to cater to that kind of voter.
The conservative candidate that knocked on my door started saying how dangerous is a street nearby I walk daily. Most of his arguments were based on fear, and the culprit is always "the liberals". So that is definitely in their playbook.
Sadly for him, most of that information is easily accessible, like a map of crimes in the city, and his arguments fell short.
- Hence the reason why only Conservatives rely on fearmongering.

I bet that the same fucking propaganda playbook that's used by the right in the US with Fox and Co is what's behind this.

Conservatives need to go outside more often.

Wasn't there some scientific study that showed that Conservative brains have a much higher than normal fear response?

Ironically, one of the the biggest real dangers to Canada is conservatives.

I’m not a Conservative and think that the conservative obsession with crime is overblown and borders on hysterical but it’s incorrect to say that Canadians are as safe as they were 10 years ago. Violent crime has been on the rise every year since 2014 after a sustained period of reduction. We’re now at roughly the same crime rate we were in 2002.

Feelings are fine. But facts are facts.

  Apparently the numbers don't match because they expanded the definition of "violent crime" — so I guess whatever new offenses were added to it must account for most of whatever that huge decline circa 2014 was about.
  
  That's an obvious explanation of why the reported numbers change but most of the population can't process the information.
  It requires a multi-step of thinking to understand and reverses the assumed conclusion when people first look at the numbers.
  its just like when people look at violent crime rates in the 1960's-90's. The reported crime rates were steadily increasing even while the actual violent crime rates fell. What changed was a societal acceptance of what constituted a violent crime.
  Suddenly beating the shit out of somebody with a different skin color, your kids, or wife was no longer considered a fun weekend activity and was instead a violent crime.

Why ask this question to anyone younger than 30? Of course an 18yo will feel less safe now than 10 years ago...when they were fucking EIGHT and playing Nintendo 3DS in their parents basement.
I feel like the age ranges need to be different for this question, and to do otherwise is almost trying to further the narrative of conservative youth.

So, you're telling me that a population of people who spend a lot more time listening to messages that their country is broken, that streets are rampant with crime, and that mass murderers are getting out of jail early is a population of people who feel less safe?
