Back after the reunification the former states had a trouble with Nazis, I ignore those within the police force but focus on unorganized ones.
The organized right did quickly try to leverage their position and targeted young people especially i.e. by financing summer holidays, "national" (read right extremist) youth centers and alike. Some 's that did social work at that time were proponents of "accepting youth work" which means to say "It is fine that you are a Nazi who expresses wishes to kill people, I hear you, I am here for you" (which didn't work out well). In any case for various reasons the Nazis did use plenty violence and kill / torture people, if you were marginalized you were a higher likelyhood target. The police didn't do a lot, the years are called "Baseballschläger Jahre" literally baseball bat years, cause that was among the most prominent weapons of them.
Now what did slowly but surely create security for the , for , , :bipoc:, comrades and friends?
Antifascist self defense. This is what worked and secured physical safety and in parts still does. The actual story is this:
Local Nazis punched punks and leftists kids for years, antifa self defense is organized, a Nazi aggressor is beaten down, the libs decry the violence and yet after that attack in that small city the Nazi attacks mostly stopped. The violence of the years before was not enough for the libs to really care, the police didn't care and more likely targeted you, but the self defense was suddenly wrong.
The did as result of those racist pogroms decide to remove Asylum as fundamental individual right from its basic law (labeled "compromise", a compromise with racists is pretty much always a compromise against the oppressed), which was written in there due to the experiences of Nazi Germany that marginalized always need places to escape to. However after the reunification and the fall of the Soviet Union Germany's parties (CDU+FDP+Social Democrats of New Labour type) quickly decided that this was no longer true. Mostly to gather racist votes and for nationalist reasons.
Weird, but almost nostalgic experience to be a Chapo head since The Poop Touchening episode or thereabouts, follow it from Reddit to Chapo.chat, then hexbear, then sort of fall out of touch with it for years, then see it pop back up here on the fediverse.
So the poop touching story was from I believe the 2018 midterms. Matt Christman had made a bet that the Dems would do poorly (I believe) with Virgil (Who's Virgil?) and Virgil won because he generally speaking had a better grasp mathematically of the horse-race of electoral politics (which is why he was a wonk about them mattering). When Matt lost, he had to 'touch the poop', which was I believe Virgil's cat's poop.
Details may vary. It's amazing to me that I remember that much.
Edit: it was also done live on-pod. I'd say it's about the closest the pod ever got to 'Adam shitting himself on air'.
I think originally the phrase was popularised by r/shitRedditSays, which was a sort of feminist subreddit that took the piss out of reddit's reactionary/chauvinistic culture. They would say "Don't touch the poop", meaning don't comment on the linked thread that's getting discussed.
Oh cool, I've never been part of a delegation at the opening of something before.
