The cuts, highlighted on an earlier version of the “wall of receipts” posted by Elon Musk’s team, contained mistakes that vastly inflated the amount of money saved.
There's that crippling incompetence AOC called.
I'm guessing it went like "Wait they're needed for what!? Okay... rehire them, but don't tell anybody."
These ones were just counting mistakes. They counted billion instead of million and counted a contract three times. The "oops, we need them after all" still needs to happen.
They have now also added a contact that Biden cancelled 6 months ago.

These are some grade-A dolts running things over at the Department. It's worth reading each instance where they lied, miscounted, misinterpreted, or all of the above. One of my faves:

Instead, as reported by The Intercept, it had canceled only a tiny piece of it: a $560,000 project to let users mark their gender as “X.” The DOGE site now shows that small cut instead.

Honestly though, why does adding a single option to a form cost half a million dollars?
Potentially a bunch of follow up logic processes need to be modified as well. Gender is probably not one of the things that would have been dynamically processed in the past.

Chainsaw austerity. Normal austerity can cost a country a decade or two of growth and they at least tried to not accidently cut anything too crucial.
C'mon guys they are called woopsies. You can start a totalitarian government without a few woopsies. Give them a break. They are grown men trying their best. Remember this is a guy that bought an entire social media platform just because everyone was dunking on him for being such a weird dork. Surely, he can fix 'merica right?
