I feel the same way, but the glamour only has its effect lost on us after certain experiences and ideology reminding us of its ugly side. If we dropped a farmer from 18th c. anywhere in the middle of times Square or Shibuya station, there's no chance they won't be in awe.
A lot of people back then (and now, but back then too) believed in Hell. Before the devil with horns growing from his head overseeing a lot of burning and poking with pitchforks, it's supposed to be separation from God. Give 'em two minutes to adapt and I think they'll agree that it's very, very far from God.
This made my heart drop. However marginalized or trod upon I may be, I am still part of the rich. I don't make my living just by owning things, so I got that going for me; but my whole lifestyle sits on the backs of those folks. I knew it was bad, but this picture was just a gut-punch. If these people need to march on us to be liberated, so may it be.
