The way I allways think about it when someone talks about politics being boring.
I compare it to a nuclear powerplant.
I don't want to live next to an exciting nuclear powerplant, if I had to live next to a nuclear powerplant, I want it to be as boring and as dull as possible.
Same with politics, I don't want an exciting government, I want a boring and predictable government.
Reddit is not our friend. But I guess us Lemmies already knew that.
But Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok are not our friend either. We need to consider the current social media landscape as right wing moving forward especially as more media moguls bow to Trump.
We have to accept that the ones weilding all the power right now are accelerationists themselves. They want the government to fail and they want to install their own. Unsurprisingly, they also own all the tech companies you just listed.
Those are amateur numbers. The conservative sub has never been able to get upvoted posts even close to the top upvoted daily posts on Reddit.
Most of us are here because it's become clear to us that Reddit is quickly devolving. 3rd party apps banned. Sub mods with enough power to get your entire account banned site-wide. Subs that auto-ban you simply for commenting in other subs they don't like. A new block system that changed to block your replies entirely, instead of just preventing the blocker from seeing your replies, so you cannot correct anyone's misinformation for others to see. And the propaganda and misinformation is simply off the charts.
Reddit is becoming a social media cesspool like so many others before it. Time to jump ship.
i noticed i cant downvote on main AI instances anymore recently.
If all you ever did was to downvote content, maybe the mods did indeed ban you. We had a discussion recently on !fedigrow@lemm.ee on what to do in such situations.
Why not just block the pervasive communities or instances? I get pretty annoyed with the AI content too, but it feels so much easier/satisfying to block the comms and know I'll never see them again lol
It's very strange to see that subreddit on the front page every day since the election.
Before it would only hit once in a blue moon. It's too bad reddit did away with the up/downvote count a long time ago. To think you could actually get the real score on reddit. Now I have a feeling their algorithm is promoting certain posts like this one.
All the actual left wing Redditors came here. The only thing left are the conservatives who don't hide being conservatives, and the nazis pretending to be leftists to troll.
Lemmy has 0.005% (no, this is not a typo) of the active users. For every million Reddit users, there are 50 Lemmy users. To try and put this in perspective, if reddit was the entirely of the United States, Lemmy would be a town of ~17,000 people. Or about 1/10th of a square mile of Manhattan during the day.
Let's not make up wild, inflated, statements like this . We aren't even large enough to make up a single medium sized reddit community. Nevermind actually affect change on Reddit by way of user migration.
"All" is stretching it, but I think TikTok and the fediverse have definitely attracted significant portions of the progressive left.
What remains on reddit is mostly the liberal left and a few progressives in niche subs.
But if you go to a sub such as r/worldnews, it's clear that there are no actual progressives commenting on that sub. They either got banned or they left.
I cant stand subs that are openly hostile to outside commenter's. I don't care how ridiculous they are I wish them buried away at the bottom of the ocean.
It's schrodingers social media platform. Simultaneously had an impact on the zeitgeist and none at all. Objectively speaking it did. The thing about reddit is it's the one that everybody uses but nobody talks about using. So people have developed this strange cognitive dissonance. Where reddit seems to exist but also did not... because it's required that reddit was peoples secret hideout so it can't have been too popular because that would ruin its historical cachet.
And now the phenomenon has morphed into some other strange beast. Where reddit is right now undeniably a popular platform so that dichotomy can't hold up anymore. Now people refer to reddit in the third person while being redditors themselves. Lately it's very obvious seeing on reddit the users referring to "reddit" as if they aren't themselves a part of it. This post is a very example of the phenomenon. Conservatives screeching about a fictionalized "reddit" in their head that is some kind of far left caricature. A thing that never existed. This kind of thing cuts across all kinds of intersections. People using "reddit" as a label for whatever the other side of the argument they have in their head with zero self awareness that they are "reddit" themselves.
The reality is that reddit is a sibling platform to 4chan. You cannot separate /pol/ from 4chan any more than you can separate the far right parts from reddit. To say reddit is left wing is as delusional to say 4chan is left wing. One can point to the lgbt board on 4chan and say, "look it's the lefties". Some how that is more digestible than selectively picking some lgbt subreddits as proof that reddit is left echo chamber.
The venn diagram of reddit, 4chan, and any given social media platform is a lot closer than people want to admit. Because apparently reddit is a secret that everyone has but nobody wants to cop to. And it's also everyone's favorite strawman. Except when it comes time to talk about the impact its had on the world. Then poof it doesn't exist at all.
Best to keep yourself informed so you can see all this madness and lack of empathy and critical thinking. They've been in their bubbles too long. 2025 polls show that they are becoming increasingly unpopular. They are so mad lol.
No doubt mine was. Not that I was a loud voice just I didn't follow the pack. I deleted my main which I could post anything anywhere, no questions ask. Rebooted and was fine hopping around as soon as I started pressing "left leaning moderates" they tossed me. They were fermenting and alt left after years of alt right have nothing to normalize them. Landed right in the hot bed when I got here on lemmy.
Sad thing is what they did to twitch. I mean, just chatting ruined it years before but it use the serve a purpose. Now it's a political shit show. I saw it coming and banked a twitchnews tag, I forgot what it was but I wouldn't done anything with it any way.
not the only one, i was part of the ban/purges of febuarary, and some of 5+years got hit. 1 was currently suspended(i accidentally deleted) suddenly all my accts were hit with bans at once, around the same time the all the subs had increased thier spam filtering, and threshold to comment, apparently it immediately flags your acc as spam, if your comment gets autoremoved. there has been at least 3 big ban purges since nov of accounts. apparently they will get you if you made an acct years ago and then banned from a sub, but they decided to make a new account and forget it about it years later, and accidentally commented in said sub, your accounts get targeted. punishing redditors for accounts they deleted and forgot more than a year+ ago, is something new.
