I know this is just a meme, but no one would say Chris Kyle is the best US sniper. He was a sniper, but having a movie made about you doesn’t make you the best.

  True, I just remember reading about it somewhere after watching the movie about him (many years ago).

You can't talk about snipers without mentioning the GOAT, Simo Hayha. 505 kills in 98 days.
Side note, Chris Kyle was a known lying sack of shit. I wonder how much of his record is fabricated.

  Interesting take. Finland was a democracy with universal suffrage. The red army was conducting an unprovoked invasion because finland refused to just cede land to Russia.

  I'll concede those numbers are probably higher than reality. As your link states, most kills by most snipers are largely unknown.
- The problem with Hayha is the lack of evidence for most of his kills.
- I've heard similar about Chris Kyle before but have only seen his movie and know nothing else about him. What has he said that people know is lying?
  
  The big one, which is also grotesque and racist, was about shooting civilians after Katrina. He's also been called out by other special forces guys for lying about missions and other interactions he's had in his private life. Most notably, Jesse Ventura, though he's a piece of shit as well. The guy was a decent shot, but a terrible person and habitual liar.
