  • I'm a hypocrite but I do watch porn I also see why it'll cause issues with loneliness, or it being used as a quick dopamine fix while doing little to improve ones life. Also the industry can be grim

  • If you believe that laws forbidding gambling, sale of liquor, sale of contraceptives, requiring definite closing hours, enforcing the Sabbath, or any such, are necessary to the welfare of your community, that is your right and I do not ask you to surrender your beliefs or give up your efforts to put over such laws. But remember that such laws are, at most, a preliminary step in doing away with the evils they indict. Moral evils can never be solved by anything as easy as passing laws alone. If you aid in passing such laws without bothering to follow through by digging in to the involved questions of sociology, economics, and psychology which underlie the causes of the evils you are gunning for, you will not only fail to correct the evils you sought to prohibit but will create a dozen new evils as well.

I think that there's probably a lot of exploitation, ranging from human trafficking, to exploiting people who have no other options, to roping people into pseudo-pyramid schemes, to garden variety encouraging potentially harmful conduct stemming from untreated psychological issues (which can apply to both porn actors and porn consumers).

But I also think that for any possible harm that a legal and properly regulated sex industry could do, an illegal and stigmatized sex industry is a thousand times worse. So the key is to recognize that there is an undeniable demand for porn, so we might as well do everything we can to minimize the potential for harm for all possible parties involved.

Also some of those Rule34 artists are just... they're both some of the most amazingly talented artists and some of the most depraved perverts on the goddamn planet, sometimes at the same time. Bless their weird little hearts.

  • I mean it’s capitalism so what do you expect? Then again I think most people know extremely little about the industry and have opinions based mostly on puritanical views on sex. So I usually don’t like to feed that nonsense by extra criticism when there are many other industries that are far more worthy of criticism.

  • Just regular people selling their time/ideas/morals for capitalism.

I'd have preferred for it to be a thing after we established safety nets so that people don't have to worry about being homeless/hungry/sick.

  • It is just another industry as long as it is done safely. I know it's filled with a lot of issues, controversies and problems. Like production companies and websites abusing girls, models etc., such as "girls do porn". And other actors abusing other actors.

Porn is acting, just because somebody works in porn doesn't mean harassment doesn't exist towards them.

I know it may still be taboo in many circles and there's still a shame in the world about it. But as with anything in life, some people are okay with it, some people are not, some people choose to ignore it.

It's definitely clear that addiction and overconsumption of porn exists and it does affect humans and their relationships, and it's pretty clear all porn companies have in mind to increase profits and this means that it's in their interest for customers to alienate their relationships and over rely on porn and it's associated products to not only get their horny fix but to fulfill other emotional needs, I mean look at all the AI Chatbots that are being created and the AI Virtual girlfriend experiences. But, I don't feel like this is the only industry that has these issues and that it's the only industry where it's goals aren't what's best for the health of the consumer. Exaggeration and endless pursuit of growth and profits will do this to every industry.

I feel like, with everything in our life we should do our best to be informed and to actively be aware and pursue moderation, but I'm also aware it's not easy and it's not the way humans work.

As much as I say these things I'm not a saint or perfect and I don't always follow them. I myself have an addiction or a mild addiction.

You know, "Do as I say, not as I do"

  • I don't mind having a wank to it, but I'd never have any interest in meeting / knowing / dating / having a relationship with anyone who does it.

The amazing counter to that is always "oh, yeah? Well they don't want to have anything to do with you either!" and I am totally okay with that.
