Italians have great raw ingredients, if only somebody would teach them how to use them.

From an European perspective, it has always been a point of divergence with my American friends and colleagues. They always want the fattier, more sugar-full version arguing there's more taste and it's "real food", but in our point of view it taste like junk and don't compete a second with a home-made traditional one (and are pricier !).
That. Unless Domino’s has a completely different pricing strategy in the US, They are the expensive option.
I like eating dominos once in a while, it’s a great sweet fatty snack, but it’s not cheaper.
Domino's is way cheaper than an actual Italian pizza in the US.
It's also shit pizza, I'd rather buy a frozen one and put my own stuff on it. Then it's cheaper and better.
That’s my point about Italy having better ingredients. The assembling of the ingredients is the issue. This is why authentic Italian-American pizza is the best. The bougie places shell out for imported ingredients and cook them in the American style.
When I was in Venice I only tried a Diavolo at a local restaurant. It certainly could be my American expectations but nothing amazed me about it; definitely feel like a bit more could be done to mesh the ingredients. Or, maybe my American brain just craved sweeter, cheesier stuff.
Then again, I went to Germany and the bread there was fantastic compared to America, so unless they boarded the sugar train it feels like there must be something that can be done right with good ingredients.
This reads like such astroturfing advertisement. Also it's just fucking sad if you really think domino's is the height of pizza.
Seeing Dominoes as the standard for American pizza fills me with sadness and shame.
Yes, I know it’s only a shitpost, but still.
What do you mean expensive? A Margherita is usually around 7 euros
in the US they are bougie as shit and the cheapest are usually $17 with the average around $25. And they are usually much shittier than any you'll find in Italy.
Okay, I'm going to be that guy because I don't see it being pointed out already.
That's not actual Italian pizza, it's still an Americanized version.
Real Italian pizza is so thin you have to eat it with a fork and knife and it's meant for one person, not to share. The one in the picture is still way too thick to be real Italian.
But real Italian pizza in Italy really is on another level. It's so god damned good, it makes all pizza in America look like cardboard with sauce.
"Real italian pizza is so thin" Yeah that's just not true, there are many different types of Italian pizza, the most standard of which is like the one pictured. The form varies in popularity by region.
The Napoli pizza portofoglio is the best
Exactly, plus it's usually cheap as hell too, along with being mind blowing-ly good.
Not everyone gets the chance to go to Italy though, so just enjoy the pizza and op should stop gate keeping a delicious food.
i’ve had real italian pizza, in italy. it was fucking delicious, but it doesn’t make the best pies i’ve had in places like new york or chicago taste like cardboard with sauce. some places in nyc can absolutely go toe-to-toe with italy.
Thicc pizza is my guilty pleasure
Yeah I don't think so. They have different kinds of pizza in Italy. When I visited, I ate both kinds (as pictured and as you described). However, no sign of anything resembling Dominoes or frozen pizzas from the US. They were both delicious, but I prefer the slightly thicker and doughy crust seen in OP's picture.
The one on the left was by an Italian in an Italian cultural zone known as new Amsterdam (fucking hipsters changing the names of everything).
I'm Italian, can confirm that that pizza looks like a correct napolitan style pizza
If only the British were willing to share their culinary secrets and dental technology, many of the world's problems could be solved decisively.
culinary secrets
A crybaby yelling at people and offering galaxy brain advice like “limit the size of your menu, it keeps consistency up” and “clean daily”?
dental technology
You’ve seen those haggard chompers, it’s a miracle they don’t fall out or bite themselves comically whilst speaking. Imagine what people who gave a shit could do with that dental necromancy
Seems normal to me, I can't order Domino's unless I'm fully nude.. phone or on person. Figured we all had that problem!
Reddit taught me that’s the normal way to answer and the driver takes the view in lieu of a tip
This is pathetic
L
You should read Alberto Grandi. Broaden those horizons, just like the new world did for Italian food.
it’s funny how seriously people are taking this lol. good shitpost
I think the downvotes are from how obstinate I’m being. I clearly marked it with a /s
Maybe it's different in the states, but Domino's is ridiculously overpriced for pizza in the UK (yes I know you can always find a voucher), you can get two neapolitan pizzas and change for the price of some of the pizzas on the Domino's menu.
Not really sure how they're still afloat over here simply beyond existing momentum
I kinda dig the bland crust. Not for eating, but for not eating. Like, sometimes you'd rather your calories come from toppings, and saving the crust for the next day to dip in those shitty marinara cups when you're tired as hell is a good thing.
Like, not often, but sometimes.
Then again, we don't do pizza often, and it's usually when all adults are fucking wrecked via some bullshit or another that pushed us past our limits (both me and my wife are disabled, and my dad is old as fuck lol). If we want pizza to really enjoy I make it myself, or order it from the two yankees that set up a shop in town.
Other than LC who is cheaper? Only a fool orders pizza without a coupon so I’m assuming that’s being taken into account given the prevalence (that’s part of their pricing strategy, it’s built in).
I will copy my response to another poster:
Can't speak for the US as a whole but everywhere I've lived Domino's is the cheapest. I can get a medium 2 topping pizza at dominoes for $6.99. We have 3 family run traditional pizza places within driving distance of where I live, for a 2 topping medium pizza they cost: $14.75, $15.99, or $18.99.
It's like that in the US too. I'm not a coupon person but I use an online coupon (it's under Deals or something) every time with Dominoes.
Yeah it's definitely not the cheap option but it's still nice to have occasionally
there is an authentic italian pizza place around the corner from me where I can get two 16 inch peporoni pizzas for 15 quid which are 20xs better than the slop dominos provides
Imagine actually eating dominos when you have NY american pizza avilable lmao
Domino's crust is always covered with a layer of nasty gritty powder, even if I tell them to not season the crust.
it's the cornmeal they use to keep it from sticking during prep
That's what they want you to think
Uh, I'm pretty sure it's baby powder.
Yeah that's not seasoning, that's corneal. Unless you mean the edges? Then that's their fake parmesan.
Corn flour? Lol
Baffled at the plenty of toppings and lots of cheese notes. Maybe it’s just Dominoes in Canada but I’m fairly certain there’s less cardboard in the box it came in. To each their own I guess.
different supplier than the supply region I’m in, so I’ll take your word for it.
Maybe it’s part of the MAID plan? Easier to convince people if they don’t have good cheese to remind them that it’s worth going on until that next greasy slice.
I know it's a meme, but this is a dumb take. You're comparing two very different things, and they serve two different purposes. Sometimes you want to crush some fast food at 2 am after drinking at the pub, sometimes you want to have really good pizza where less is more and the quality of the ingredients matter. Eat both and be happy you have pizza.
That's the joke
Really good pizza
more bread than anything else
Come on, we both know the toppings are the star of the show and bread is the delivery vehicle.
See how thick that chonker on the left is? That’s because it has a higher bread to topping ratio.
And people accuse Americans of wanting more sugar. WHAT DOES BREAD TURN INTO?
Both the same price.
Proper Italian pizza - Just a like a mamma used to make
Dominos - 50% shareholder profit, 50 disappointment
food of the peasants
The ignorant peasants, yes. I can feed myself for two whole days off the price of a McDonald's combo meal these days.
Eat the Mcslop citizen! A frugal wage-slave is bad for the economy, so do your part be precarious!
I always forget how good a genuine pizza is until I have it again
Pretty sure that 30 minutes or less thing hasn't been a thing in forever
As with all retail, corporate accounts for people abusing the staff until the manager relents.
Don’t do it obviously, Scaphism is sometimes justified, but you will get that free pizza.
I will doxx you to the mafia!
American here, Dominoes is effing disgusting.
I 100% unironically agree with this meme, and I worked in restaurants for years and ran one myself for a while.
They didn't mention taste so I'll begrudgingly agree lol
As far as taste though, Authentic messy bush leaf pizza > Domino's any day lol
a Domino's white sauce, spinach, and feta pizza fucking slaps. but Little Caesar's is cheaper than both, so 🤷🏼
bless up
Yeah, Italian Pizza actually needs less time in the oven.
Precisely, if you’re going to ruin good ingredients like that leave them raw.
:D
Honestly they turn the heat way up compared to American pizza, so it's faster but also burned in some spots :D
Please take pity on the Italians, they sent their best to America and now they are trying their best.
I had to eat in that shitty country for a bit this summer, I will show them the kindness they showed me.
