  • It's cold, it's dark and I'm on my way home having been given the nicest compliment anyone has ever given me

You have a presence that lifts everyone around you

    My heart

  • As it's Pride month (love all my gay/queer/trans homies and homettes) I'd like to share that we have had three separate friends of our kids, come out to us before telling their parents.

My wife responds with a motherly hug and I put the kettle on.

I've told all the kids that if they need adult backup when (if) they tell their parents, I'll happily accompany them and offer sanctuary, just in case.

I may not be their parent, but I'll pretend to be one if it makes them feel safe.

I don't share this a lot in real-life to keep our space safe for the kids, but felt like saying it here tonight.

  • I have a little story to tell. I'd never been interstate so for our first trip together we booked a flight to Tassie and booked a nice cabin out the back of the pub with a "continental breakfast" included. How good is that we thought. I wonder what a continental breakfast involves. Bacon, eggs maybe some sausages and mushrooms thrown in if we are lucky. Now we couldn't google this because internet wasn't really a thing back then. It was so long ago that we flew there on Ansett.

Anyway we arrived at the pub to book in and thought we'll stay for a meal. Half way through, old mate calls us over and says "Here, I may as well give this to you now so I don't wake you up in the morning" and he hands us a freezer bag with 4 slices of white bread and a small carton of long life milk. Still nothing jerried.

We get to the cabin and we do what any respectable couple does. He checks the TV for channels. I raid the fridge. And there I discovered the open jar of jam, Vegemite and margarine. "Um Dear, I don't think the continental breakfast is what we think it is" "What do you mean?"" Well there's condiments in the fridge. I think it just means toast".

Everytime we here those words "continental breakfast" we laugh.

    • Many years ago I went to Tasmania for my honeymoon. One night we went to the local fish and chip shop, and attempted to order grilled fish. We were told (in the most toneless and expressionless way possible) "we only have fried." So we changed to fried fish. Tried to order a steamed dim sim, were told "we only have fried." Eventually we managed to work out an acceptable order containing only fried food, including a minimum serve of chips. Which turned out to be a small bucket full. We pretty much gave up at that point, ate our minute serve of chips, and "we only have fried" became an oft-repeated comment whenever we ordered food.

      • 😂. I knew a fish & chip shop ran by an old guy. He never changed the oil and when people came in and ordered say a hamburger he'd point to the sign and say "NO. JUST. FISH. AND. CHIPS". Locals knew to stay away. It was basically a front so he can listen to the races on the wireless out the back away from his wife.

    • It's not even on the continent all the way down there separated from the mainland.

  • After pushing through to finish out the work day (bossy boss & my last day before a week off), I found and booked in with the Richmond Priority Primary Care Centre, to have my increasingly painful ear looked at. Now have confirmation of an infected ear.

That clinic takes in urgent cases that can be handled without going to emergency, and was such a great alternative given all the standard GPs seemed to have closed for the weekend. They were super easy to book in with via HotDoc. Highly recommend.

  • On the menu for tonight is takeaway pizza, a bottle of red and a TV show which requires no thinking. I'm mentally spent, today was a really tough day. Recharge required.

  • I've been up for 6 hours. I've had 4 hot drinks and I just realised I didn't give little dog his breakfast. He didn't even complain. Bad mummy.

    • Isn't it a horrid feeling! I feed our cats in the morning when I wake up, but noticed if I sleep in on the weekend they help themselves to their kibble (which they're very good at rationing). If I feed them later in the morning they still eat it but then likely throw it up, so I usually feed them in the afternoon if I have slept in.

I forgot for the first time ever the other week, and we've had them for nine years. They didn't complain but it wasn't until the next morning when I got their food out that I realised. I felt so fucking terrible.

      • Sometimes he does his little dance so I feed him (he gets dry stuff in the morning) takes a nibble then goes back to bed. If it's still there in the afternoon he scoffs it down so that he still gets his wet stuff.

    • Little dog deserves a little treat later today I reckon

  • Friday off means a good gym, sauna and spa session this morning! Looking forward to steak and wine tonight!

Can I just say that I kinda love that there's more comments in here than over on /r... teehee!

  • I gotta say, one of my favourite things about these DT's, is when we're talking about family members, pets, etc. we use our username along with anything identifying the relationship. I'm really enjoying it.

  • Ahh Friday. Today my partner comes over and I'm so excited to see them. I haven't seen them for like three weeks! (Usually we see each other each weekend but they had work all weekend both times) I can't wait till we can live together because ugh.

  • Going out for Japanese tonight. If there are gyoza i'll smuggle a few back and put them with this mornings croissants to share with the class.

  • I very nearly bailed on a social occasion last night, and I'm so glad I didn't. Much fun was had.

    • But have you told them about the microwaved potato? Or are you gaining their trust first?

      • I have some pamphlets that I carry around with me, I ran out halfway through the night I'm afraid... So many more souls could have been saved

    • Oh my god I feel this so deeply. I have social media but never, ever look at it. I also can’t stand messenger because all my friends insist on having multiple group chats, so I’ve just muted them all and don’t have notifications turned on. I might check messenger once a day or every 2 days. I never check Facebook. The amount of times I’ve had friends (well just one in particular really) get shitty with my because I’m not responding to their message when they KNOW this.

If it’s so urgent that you’re going to get genuinely annoyed at me for not checking messenger more often, why not take 2 minutes out of your day to call me? Or at the very least send me a text? Why get so passive aggressive about it when you know that there’s a simple solution to this.

Probably if I just got rid of all social media they would be more understanding, but as it is, few of them expect me to be as glued to messenger throughout the day as they are and get kinda hostile when I’m not. It shits me to no end. I’ve been this way for the entire time I’ve known them. Nothing has changed in 10+ years. I’m not changing my ways now

  • Snuck home at lunch to avoid pub time at work. Cosy in PJs with some popcorn and my housemate playing ff16.

Man, I wish we didn't have to go into office.

    • PJs, food, friends and FF16 > pub time. Any day of the week.

      • Hundred percent! Got myself a club bar from mum's latest deposit of Random English Snacks at my house so I am VIBING.

  • Hey Goddess! Thanks!

Woke up and had the opportunity to chair another meeting which was nice. This AA group have become my newest family. They are teaching me things I'd never thought of and making me be incredibly honest with myself. If anyone's been in aa you'll know what I'm talking about.

Going to the wonderful cafe around the corner for breakfast then get some groceries and I'll come home and make a vege stew. Got a bit extra work to do as well but looks like a lazy-ish friday. Maybe I'll do some music and start looking at all the work leads I got yesterday. Really need to start taking time to do some exercise for it's own sake as well.

Enjoy today, its a bit longer then yesterday!!! Weather looks grim, but we don't have to be grim in outlook.

  • I'm hungry, but also really tired and don't want to have to cook food. Where are the robot servants we were supposed to all have by now?

Maybe I can muster up enough energy to cut up a carrot.

  • Sodding Flybuys.
I was doing the spend $50 for 4 weeks promo at Coles except I did week 3 online and they omitted an item which took it under the total. I phoned Flybuys and was told by the CS rep that she'd done an override and all I had to do was phone them when the points for week 4 came in.
So of course when I phone I get clueless CS rep who couldn't find my details, my week 3 points or any details of the previous interaction and "The points weren't added because it was an online transaction" and "I'll have to send in the receipt." Which I just did and got the generic 'we will endeavour to answer your query within 5 business days'. Sure, Jan.

  • Gah, last thing I need today.

Cut myself slightly on my finger with a paperclip trying to unzip a stuck zipper.

Right where I bend my finger as well. Just to add to feeling down today. :(

  • I was just typing a request for you to change the title to Daily Thread as it changed in front of me.

    • Yeah as soon as I post it I realised I had forgotten and adjusted 🤣 thanks for keeping your eyes peeled. It was a week since last I hosted a post, took me a few seconds to figure how to edit my own post 😅
