  • Sat outside Brunetti on Flinders Lane with a drink being Melbourne as fuuuuuuuck 🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌

  • The prevailing theory for the use of eyepatches, in the case of piracy on the high seas and maritime combat, is that they will help preserve your “dark adapted vision”.

In such cases where you need to transition belowdecks you can maintain combat effectiveness in low light conditions.

    • Oh. I thought it might have been because you've accidentally poked an eye with your hook hand while swatting a fly.

      • sailors would sometimes lose an eye from ropes flicking up

they would also lose a lower limb from a rope accidently coiling around an ankle

ships are dangerous, the sails exert strong forces and anchors are very heavy

the dark adapted vision thing is probably because they used sextants for navigation and that meant looking at the sun

  • Another unseasonably warm morning, bringing with it both pleasure at the temperature and a sense of existential dread at the larger meaning of it all. I plan to work out my inner angst by raining destruction upon the leaf-curl ridden nectarine tree that's never produced any fruit, and the gall wasp ridden lemon tree that is little more than a twig with leaves that constantly surprises me by the fact that it somehow manages to still be alive.

  • squeee, I'm going to visit new Ted Cat tomorrow morning, I really hope I can get him. 💗😸

  • As someone who rollerbladed more than walked as a kid, and has played ice hockey for over 10 years, I have found a massive flaw.... namely in that pants these days are FAR TOO NARROW. How the fuck are my tree-trunk legs supposed to get into these skinny jeans?

    • I've heard rumours that 90's style loose jeans are coming back in style. Bring back grunge! It was the comfiest fashion trend ever.

    • Easy, get jeans (or chinos) with elastene. Absolute game changers.

I've got tree trunk legs and love the stretchy type pants.

      • I used to shop at particular stores... ahem mostly gothic, but they've all pretty much disappeared throughout the city. So I've resorted to buying stuff on Etsy and yeah, apparently people that are buying them have legs that resemble twiggy sticks. Even if I get slightly larger waist sizes and just chuck on a belt it doesn't work.

  • Grocery shopping done, two boxes of stuff dropped off at the op shop, cardboard boxes collected and first load of washing in. \0/. Was going to say on to the next task, but Sammi has jumped jumped onto my lap and has made it plain it's snuggle time. Eh well, don't mind having a breather.

    • Sounds like a productive day and a perfect to take a break.

It would be even better if you could get lunch and coffee and do that with Sammi in your lap.

      • Unfortunately can't get lunch with Sammi in my lap. 😂. She's retired to the other couch for her afternoon nap and I've flopped on the bed after doing more stuff. I thought Zooks was going to join me, but she's evidently got Important Cat Business to do.

  • Introducing the BLOSSOM DAWG

Edit. It's actually a pretty tasty tree. I thought it'd taste like grass but that was alright.

    • I can't endorse or encourage this behaviour I'm sorry. I'm glad you're having fun and trying new things though.

      • Look. It's a limited edition. One of things where the food scientist goes 'hey, that's a good idea" and then it mysteriously goes missing from the shelves a few weeks later.

    • Having been to Japan several times with their sakura flavoured things and sakura petals as garnish. I approve. Though not with that ghastly colour combination and that very chewy off tasting bolted coriander leaf.

      • I know. The coriander has just gone early after this week, it was dark, it was late, I was hungry when picking it and I'm all out of excuses now :(

  • Cherry blossom and coriander forest weird FLEX but okay:

Bees only get a few weeks to enjoy the cherry blossom. But it's the first year both the coriander and cherry are flowering together which is new.

    • Delicious! What used to climb up that support in your soapy thicket? Surely they could share with a friendly tomato or two.

  • Decided to do a hard reset (basically don't sleep, not even a nap after your last shift) after night shift to get it out of the way, and holy hell am I being reminded why I don't do it this way. I think I can hear and smell colours at this point! Just keep having to remind myself doing it this way means more holiday hours.

  • Okay, workforce were great to speak to, super helpful. They removed the hold so that is good!

C-link have also sorted out partner's payment so that's fantastic!!

Weirdly, the RE have not responded at all to my email regarding late rent. I dont know what to think about that; but with my and my partner's c-link sorted, my first pay coming on Wednesday from the job, we might actually be able to pay it in full by the end of the week. Just the no response from the RE is a bit odd... ehhhh

    • Fantastic news that it’s all sorted.

About your RE, I know you probably already know but check your spam folders?

I’d be wondering what’s going on since you didn’t get a reply either.

  • So, bros wedding coming up this w/e which I'm excited about.

But it has been dropped on me I'm going to a rehearsal on thursday (I'm not doing anything at the wedding), going out for dins with brides' extended fam friday, and looking after their cat for 10 days apparently from the day after their wedding. It's all good but I've heard all of that second hand and it keeps changing which I'm not impressed about.

Like I understand it's a massive day / moment and it's stressful but this sort of stuff should be communicated not within the week of it happening.

    Thank you for listening.

    • This is good quality outrage and you're NTA here.

Single childless family members unite, we're often the last to be thought of.

      • Heh yeah for real.

I've sometimes wondered if that's a thing and it's probably not too far off.

I'm gonna do the things but yea.. thoughts about it all.

    • Nah I'm with you. That would shit me.

  • Between shit sleep and it being my final night of work before my mini break, I am climbing the walls so bad! I've just spent the night spinning in my chair, watching five seconds of various films and shows, and munching my way through every little snack I have in boredom. I will be sprinting out that door like an escaped convict in a few hours.

  • Ducking out to the pub for a cheeky outdoor pint was great in hindsight but I still have emails to answer booooooooooooo

  • Doing a big tidy up here. Just trying to put everything away where it belongs.

  • Exercises completed. Excited because I ordered Throw Throw Burrito to go with Throw Throw Avocado and it's coming today supposedly. These are the perfect games for my family! I am also experiencing a new thing at the moment: after all these years of wondering about it, I'm being taught to play chess by the Elder Minipeeler. It's pretty cool. My boy isn't too bad at it, and one of his friends has made it through to the state championships in his age group!

And now for something completely different.. you've heard of snakes on a plane so get ready for..

I took a discrete pic when he wasn't looking (he is at work after all) but I never see a dog on the bus and it made me SO EXCITED (in other words I just smiled bigly!) Have a great day everyone!

    • I love patting dogs and the self control I have to pat dogs who are working...

    • I freaking LOVE Throw Throw Avocado/Burrito. I was skeptical, but playing it with a friend last year was honestly one of the best times I'd had in so long and I wish I had more people to play it with! It's so fun!

  • Asked for a quote to replace thermocouples on my stove from a gasfitter and he actually recommended replacing with induction instead. Costs of parts are way up apparently.

    • That's pretty good of that gasfitter to give you an honest recommendation. Looks like the tide is turning (although I have a very emotional connection to using a gas stove).

  • HAWT DAWGs with jalapenos and coriander.

Tempted to put a few cherry blossom petals on too. I mean, now would be when you'd do that. in a few weeks one gust of wind and all gone!

  • If you have a Samsung smart TV there's a whole bunch of new channels on there including music channels such as vevo.

Disclaimer: I don't know how new they are we just discovered them today.

  • I think it might have been the twiggy sticks but fuck I'm letting them rip and little dog's taking the rap. I'll repay him in chips later on. He keeps licking the air. Lol

  • Something's definitely in the air, smells a bit off and headachey inside my friend's place. It IS horrifically dusty in this house anyway due to all the renovation works and piles of boxes everywhere, but there's another element to it tonight.

Luckily it's my last night here and it's delightfully warm, so it's been an opportune time for a rare cleanout/self care. Most of the place has gotten an airing and a vacuum and even (gasp) a mop. Gave the kitchen and various surfaces a good clean, washed various blankets and clothes, had a nice shower and chamomile tea, applied some heavenly body oil I got as a sample and did a session on the shakti mat & pillow, all I'm missing now is a live love laugh poster.

Put their itty bitty air purifier on, just waiting for the dryer to finish another round now and I'll probably be out like a light soon while desperately trying to finish this giant book (Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese) by tomorrow...

Did a bit of packing today too and the poor cat must've sensed it, she was being particularly needy and attention seeking today. 😿

  • Lunch/dinner - long beans with vegan mince and one of my favourite asian condiments ever, "olive vegetable" - based off a recipe I've been wanting to try for ages. Maybe the mince/bean ratio is a bit off but it's delish nevertheless. The last dish I'll cook in my friend's wok and their nice hot burner. I'm kinda looking forward to going home now tbh, as much as it's been heavenly with the cat.

  • Reconciliations (making sense of overpayments and underpayments...I work in health insurance) are shit
