democracy is when you have over a dozen parties and all of them are for apartheid.

They've got the illusion of choice thing down. Kind of like how you go into a grocery store and see thousands of brands but they're actually just subsidiaries of like 3 companies owned by 10 guys.
Same thing with multi-party parliamentary democracies... Tons of candidates, 8+ parties, but they're all controlled by a few guys.

And they all taste the same because the process and supply chain to manufacture them uses the same cheap ingredients.

Norway is a full democracy, which is why governmental institutions can enact policies which deeply impact my quality of life without parliamentary approval, and will be met with at most a Sternly Worded Letter from their higher ups if there's enough outcry
24 0 ReplyBelieveRevolt [he/him] @hexbear.net This is based on the Freedom Index by some US government funded organization whose name I can't remember. edit: Freedom House?
, I know.
Always funny to see how Saudi Arabia and the UAE, countries with no democratic institutions, are more democratic than China.

Of course only the western capitalist countries are "real" democracies...

The Netherlands is because you are allowed to choose between sixteen capitalist parties, which is what total freedom and democracy is all about

Japans a democracy despite being a one party state since the 50s and when you try to run a alt party japanese ultra-nationalists will kill you
Also women arent allowed to hold office in districts still in Japan, insane it considers it a 'full democracy'

The UK is literally a monarchy and their prime minister is an unelected goon.
14 1 ReplycalcifiedNeurotic @lemmygrad.ml insane that hungary and poland (rigged elections with fascist parties that even the EU distance themselves from) get higher scores than bolivia and mexico (plenty of opposition parties in power at least in state/department level). reads more like a settler colonialism map than a democracy map to me.
8 0 ReplyFarman [any] @hexbear.net In afghanistan there was a huge popular uprising that drposed a corrup authoritarian regime just last year they should be as blue as it gets.
