Welp, I just deleted my 12 year old, 240k+ karma Reddit account

I was sort of holding on to hope, that something would change. Unfortunately, nothing did and so, here I am.

I'm really liking kbin so far, so I'm looking forward to spending more time with you all over here. ❤️

  • Just killed mine a few ago. I was on for 9 years and although I was more of a lurker, I had some good times on there. So many good saved content, so many liked posts and comments, so many laughs and memories. I am ready to focus on kbin and start that all over here. Its like a good relationship that ended but I am ready to move on.

    • Yeah, going through my old posts and comments was fun and sad at the same time. BUT! I know I'll make more fun memories here so yay!

  • I really wasn't ready as sick as I did until I started watching Redact edit every single comment one-by-one, watching so many years of comments going by. It's rare to watch an era play back in front of you before it disappears like that. But at the same time I feel a lot more free to explore new platforms (like this one, this is my first comment on kbin :D). I'm ultimately glad that, while for abhorrent reasons, I was given the oppertunity to disconnect from Reddit and find more niche communities and websites again. I felt like it was 2004 all over again.

  • Been here since the blackouts started and it feels much more chill here.

Just pulled the plug on my 8 year old account as soon as Sync stopped working. I had already made my decision a few days ago once mods were being forcibly removed so this was merely a formality. It was still a sombre feeling watching it burn, but I'm glad that I can move on now.

Anyway, welcome and here's to a new era without corporate enshittification.

  • I'm running PowerDelete as we speak. Kinda sad to see it go, but also kind of liberating lol

    • Make sure you go back and check to make sure that everything got edited/deleted!

      • Yup, it's all gone. I'll check back now and then to make sure it doesn't "mysteriously" reappear.

    • Make sure you get the fork with the 5 second time delay.

      • Damn, I wish I had known that that existed... I had to manually go back and edit/delete a bunch of stuff 😭

  • Trying to delete mine... keeps telling me "something went wrong" They trying to stem the bleeding?

    • Are you just outright deleting it or are you using something like PowerDeleteSuite? If it's the latter, I think that needed the API to work, so that might be the problem

      • PDS is a user script and it works fine so long as you use an edited version that adds a 5 second cooldown. Rate limiting is in effect so that is necessary to avoid that. The fork I'm using only has the timeout on editing...which is all I need it for. Currently working great

  • Congrats on taking the step. I axed my 12-year old account at the start of all this. I've had moments where I doubted that decision, sure, but the fediverse does seem to be growing. There's more and more activity every day.

  • I'm right there with you. 14+ year user. I did a lot of lurking so didn't have your karma, but I never really cared about "reddit karma". Man fuck that guy /u/spez

  • Running the PDS fork with the 5 second cooldown right now to do editing of all my posts and comments. Will wait a few days before deleting my account to make sure they stay edited.

I wasn't that active over the last 12 years, but it's still taking a while. 3.3k karma here
Honestly hoped that they wouldn't go full idiot....but sadly...spez is in charge. He's an insult to the idiot community.

edit: took all night but 4k+ posts edited. Waiting a bit and checking occasionally to ensure they stay edited before deleting.

  • Me too. I had an 11 year old account that had so much info that it almost hurt, but I'm angry at Spez for ruining Reddit and this was the last straw.

I overwrote all of my comments, deleted my posts, and deleted my account with a final Fuck Spez in the "Why are you deleting your account" box.

  • Funnily enough, it seems RTV/TUIR/TTRV still work, at least for now? Possibly since you use your own API key for those. If nothing else, my copy of RTV is still working.
