Why... why would he think that?
He once owned an iron magnet which got wet and then rusted? That is probably still too logical for him but it's the only kind of plausible chain of thought I can come up with.
I can only assume that the spirochetes in his brain are dying off, and all that's left up there is cat food.
Electromagnets maybe?
“You know, the new thing is magnets. So instead of using hydraulic that can be hit by lightning and it’s fine. You take a little glass of water, you drop it on magnets, I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Trump said.
“So, you know, the elevators come up in the new carriers—I think I’m going to change it, by the way—they have magnets. Every tractor has hydraulic, every excavator, every excavating machine of any kind has hydraulic. But somebody decided to use magnets.”
The 79-year-old president then stumbled over his words and failed to complete a coherent sentence before moving on and asking the watching troops whether they preferred hydraulics or magnets.
Trump then called out to a “top-ranking general” in the crowd for his opinion before continuing his tirade against the 2,000-year-old technology.
b/w
The 79-year-old president then stumbled over his words and failed to complete a coherent sentence
Has he ever been able to complete a coherent sentence?
He’s said some incredibly stupid things, but this is next level.
The hamster powering his brain is clearly just a rotting pile of sludge now. How can anyone look at this masterclass in utter ignorance and see anything other than a senile old fool who should be in a nursing home for his own protection?
Nearly 80% of republicans think this is okay? What wouldn’t they think is okay from him? It seems they’d be fine with his actual corpse being wheeled round on a trolley by Vance & co. Astounding.
I had to double check to make sure I wasn't reading The Onion. These word salads are literally on the level of a parody of the orange turdsack.
Seems like I’m gonna whip out the champagne soon
They'll just keep propping him up, telling everyone he's fine, and they will believe it
Weekend at Donnie's?
Lol I just found this recent article
Like they do with mumbling Mitch Mcconnell?
Worked for Cuba, North Korea, etc for awhile.
That's the least of the problems. There are plenty of examples of these fucks who died and then are used forever and ever to push the same, or even worse, agendas "in their name". Imagine Trumpism in 70 years.
Street party at least
Every mainstream media outlet talking about Biden at 79: "He's so incredibly OLD!!!!!!"
Talking about Trump: (anything but his age)
Since 2014 or whenever he started campaigning I've been wondering why any sane person would offer that dimwit a microphone.

Apparently there are far fewer sane people than I had hoped.

Or the insane ones somehow ended up in influential positions more often.
They don't listen to the speech, they listen to sound bites out of context while some pseudo intellectual tells them how it made the libs cry while trying to get them to purchase unregulated supplements and boner pills to "support the cause" ie. Pay them.
exactly. And they've made up a term for it to make him sound smarter than he really is.
They call "the weave".
As if Trump is masterfully moving from subject to subject, connecting dots, seeing the patterns.... and not, ya know, fucking rambling like a senile old person.
The fool was always given a dunce cap (maybe gold plated made in China in this case) and placed in a corner to spout his gibberish.
I’ve been wondering why any sane person would listen to this fool and even vote for him. Do they even listen to what comes out of his mouth?
Stupid people in America believed some obvious bullshit claims made on a literal reality TV show.
He let slip he had an MRI recently, which explains why magnets are on the brain. Very interesting
Magnets. How do they even work? Nobody knows.
This is starting to get dangerously close to some SCP-1981 shit.
(I know, I know, real life already vastly surpassed all potential of art in the realm of presidential incomprehensibility in Trump's first term.)
Isn't that special.
I should've searched for Dana Carvey meme lol. Thanks!
Bless his heart
/me looks around.

Huh. Satire writers really are having a tough time right now.
As for the last 8 years
Trump, 79, Gets Confused Explaining Water to the Navy
You can save letters if you just stop there. It will work for the next 400 articles until the orange mayonnaise golem is called back by the witch that created him out of blob of smegma and tanning spray.
Hey now, let's leave disparaging witches to the puritanical hypocrites, eh? 🤌🏼
Satan loves us all equally. 🤘🏼❤️🔥
Except MAGAts. I hear he'd really rather not have them around at all.
Someone please edit the Wikipedia page for magnets to add the fact that water cancels them out.
Sarah Palin looks like a genius compared to this jackass.
Believe it or not, this has something to do with China trade policy. He’s rambled before about China controlling rare earth magnets. I believe magnets were specifically called out in the first China trade ”deal.”
Someone has clearly told this doddering old fool that China produces most of the world’s rare earth magnets, and being stupid, he drew the conclusion that magnets = China = bad.
Stop this ride, I want to get off.
Yeah, 100%
Wait until he finds out that brake fluid is hygroscopic.
Good thing that nothing ever goes wrong with hydraulics.
Hydraulic good because hit by lightning fine
Especially if hit by lightning. Totally fine.
Magnets... how do they work?
fucking magnets, how do the work?
I believe in miracles!
Stable Fucking Genius.
Or Trump could become a real dumbass when it turns into "Trump, 79, Gets Confused Trying to Explain Navy to the Water". giggle
This sounds like a freaking Seinfeld bit "So WHAT'S the deal with MAGNETS?"
I think what he was trying to say is that the water was going to short-circuit the magnet.
Stable genius
Fucking magnets. We’ve only been using them for like 4000 years.
The article says magnets discovered by Chinese in 200 BC so a little over 2000 years. I am not a historian to verify though.
Greek legends go back about 4000. But records have Greece using them around 600 bc. China started using the compass around 200bc, with some records of magnets exist to around 400bc.
The idiot here isn't Trump
It's America
I always found it funny that friends and family who have been in the military have told me if I want to fly planes in the military, I should join the Navy instead of the Air Force and if I want to work on a ship to join the Coast Guard or Marines.
I wonder if the DOD brass thought that “..Taking America back to when it was great..” meant we’d be using 1950’s technology as well.
Hmmm.
Let's mix it up and do the Fallout timeline so 1950s with nuclear added.
Tbh I would go for a lot more VU meters.
Not to mention repeating the complete lie that Biden claimed he was a pilot, in the military and a truck driver.
Edit: Downvote? Show me where Biden claimed he was a pilot.
This video gave me brain cancer, and I couldn't watch the whole thing.
I really wish news outlets would stop baiting us by titling their articles like this.
"Gets Confused Explaining Water to the Navy"
Did they get the wrong clip? I didnt hear him try to "explain water"
Isn't water a highly unusual polar molecule?
Let's not pretend that water is simple to understand. Anyone whose tried to measure it in a graduated cylinder knows this.
He likes watching videos, right? Can someone send him this?
Only vaguely related... switching to magnets makes me think of top gun.

Officer: [in the midst of the MIG battle] Both Catapults are broken, sir.
Stinger: How long will it take?
    Officer: It'll take ten minutes.
Stinger: Bullshit ten minutes! This thing will be over in two minutes! Get on it!
Saltwater does in fact aggressively corrode neodymium magnets. About as fast as a piece of raw iron. On top of that, the saltwater can induce currents in magnetic systems that can wreak havoc. There is truth to what Trump is saying. It seems like people are assuming Trump thinks water cancels out magnetism, but I don't see that.
https://www.stanfordmagnets.com/how-to-avoid-neodymium-magnet-corrosion.html
However he mentioned pouring a glass of water.
Nice try though.
... rare earth magnets are highly susceptible to corrosion regardless if the water is salty. They will corrode very quickly in fresh water - as any aquarium hobbyist coult tell you.
You aren't claiming that magnets are impervious to corrosion, are you?
It could be because he said it like this:
“You know, the new thing is magnets. So instead of using hydraulic that can be hit by lightning and it’s fine. You take a little glass of water, you drop it on magnets, I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
Which is 100 percent correct... you can drop a single drop of tap water onto a magent, and it will corrode. This is nothing new to aquarium enthusiasts.
Did he say it like a dumbass? Yes. Is he a dumbass? Yes. But there is truth to what he's saying. Criticisms of the man should be strategic and pointed, otherwise you risk discrediting yourself to right wingers.
It doesn't really matter what scientific information has been given about magnets, we see before us what his brain turned it into.
It actually does matter when you have an entire thread of people decrying Trump's supposed lack of understanding of magnets - while simultaneously pushing completely incorrect ideas about magents and laying bare their own lack of understanding of magnets.
Especially annoying when you can do one single Google search and read a plethora of sources that explain in great scientific detail just how susceptible magnets are to water - especially in seawater applications.
Salt water corrodes nearly everything. It's the salt.
Why would you give this man the benefit of the doubt at this point?
He thinks that magnets can be foiled by water.
The race to the bottom of intelligence is neck and neck between Donald Trump himself and the slack jawed bozos that vote for him. There is no winner to the "Lights Are On, But They Are Motion Sensor" Award.
I think what’s he’s getting confused about is that they’re using electromagnets, which the circuitry of could certainly be damaged by water.
I suspect someone at some point communicated some kind of potential problem the navy could be having, and he just went “magnets + water = bad, got it”. Which is what I think the real point should be here. It’s not so much that the president is confused about how magnets work, its more that someone at some point mentioned some kind of existing or potential situation and he is just spewing it back out without really understanding it.
Like basically the president of the fucking United States is not capable of understanding someone telling him that electromagnets can be damaged by water and is unable to communicate that basic concept.
Never mind every other fucking electronic thing on a modern aircraft carrier.
Nobody tell him that fighter jets sink in the water, he'll have all the carriers decommissioned because "Planes don't go on water. Why are we sending airplanes into the ocean, they'll just sink!"
Hey - ask him about windmills
Going for the juggalo vote?
With the economy as it is, we may all need to switch to Faygo.
I might be broke but at least I ain't got no money
He STILL thinks this somehow after saying it like 18 months ago too. I don’t know how no one told him he sounds like a fucking moron after the first time he said it publicly.
Because he surrounds himself with sycophants. Anyone who would have pushed back is gone.
Someone probably did tell him. But he forgot. Because he's old, and probably has dementia.
He’s right though, he doesn’t know what’s going to happen…
The article has a translation
If you remember the news a few years back there were all sorts of delays and problems caused by switching from hydraulics to magnetic/electrical. It’s probably a vague memory of more complexity than he can handle. A sane president would have had someone with expertise go over his speech
It was the first time so as long as all the issues have been worked out and the next one is smoother, we’re good
Where does the water come in
Yes, which is 1 million percent true. Just ask any aquarium hobbyist or electromagnetic elevator engineer.
