Hello, everyone! Lily is back with another important update to share! Today, we’re diving into an issue that continues to plague Discord—servers using dishonest methods to grow and exploit users. This is something we all need to be aware of, as it can affect both individuals and communities on the platform.
A particular method, known as "Invite Rewards," has been used by many problematic servers. If you’re not familiar with it, Nicholas actually covered this tactic in a previous post, so you might want to check that out for more details. In essence, these servers promise rewards to users in exchange for inviting others to join. However, the rewards they offer are often misleading or entirely fake.
One server we investigated uses Invite Rewards to falsely promote itself by offering things like fake Nitro subscriptions, free Robux, bot-generated members (literally fake accounts), and other similar schemes. These tactics not only exploit unsuspecting users but also inflate the server’s
Hello Lemmy. Discord locked me out of my account and wants me to verify using my phone number. Issue being, I gave them this phone number over 4 years ago and I took it off of my account at least 2 years ago and never added a 2nd. The reason I can't verify that number is because it was a burner phone. What do I do, or am I completely fucked?
Wayland and audio is fixed, but only on the canary branch for the moment, this isnt lazy either, they changed the whole screenshare flow to suit linux's permission prompts
Forced arbitration means any legal disputes you may have with Discord must be resolved through a single third party mediator, who 99% of the time is chosen by, and will rule in favor of, the corporation/Discord. This effectively removes all your legal rights as a consumer, because arbitration decisions are legally binding and non-appealable.
The new ToS goes into effect April 15th, 2024.
YOU CAN OPT OUT OF ARBITRATION. You must email arbitration-opt-out@discord.comBEFORE MAY 15TH (30 days after ToS effective date) with your username stating that you wish to opt out of the arbitration clause. Once May 15th passes you are bound to arbitration with Discord forever.
Briahna Joy Gray and Robby Soave discuss Jack Teixeira's, the 22-year-old Massachusetts Air National Guardsman, plea agreement for leaking intelligence information on Discord.
Short Summary
Recent incidents involving military personnel leaking classified information are discussed in the video transcript.
Retired Army Lieutenant Colonel David Franklin Slater allegedly shared classified intelligence about the war in Ukraine with a woman through a dating site.
Slater is facing charges for unauthorized disclosure of National Defense information and conspiracy to disclose National Defense information.
Former Air Guard Jack Tesera pleaded guilty to leaking documents from the Pentagon and received a sentence of up to 16 years in prison.
Tesera will also be required to turn over classified documents, pay a fine, and have supervised release.
The discussion raises questions about whether Tesera co
I've been logged into Discord for a while, but I came on ten minutes to check my notifications. One of the messages was a friend request, which I accepted.
A split second after I pressed Clyde's greeting feature, it logged me out of Discord on its own. I went to log back in and it asked me to re-verify my email address. I found it startling since Discord has known my email address for years.
I got in fine and everything seems to be where it was left after the last time I closed the site, but things like that make me wonder if I'm supposed to ask if something else is up. Did Discord think I spammed (it definitely didn't say so), was it a new development in routine, was it a glitch, etc. Protocol is unstatic on there which is why I ask.
Over the weekend, hackers targeted federated social networks like Mastodon to carry out ongoing spam attacks that were organized on Discord, and conducted
Isn't your active developer badge supposed to be removed if your bot hasn't been used in 60 days? I have an account with an active developer badge and it has never been removed. The bot used to claim the badge hasn't be used for months, but I have never gotten a warning about the badge expiring on that account. I have another account with the badge and every 60 days I get a warning, so I know this isn't normal. Could my account be bugged or could it have something to do with the policy change for the badge?
I uploaded a test exe in a private Discord server.. and a little while later Discord edited my message and deleted my exe. Understandable why, but still unexpected!
Hey (https://lemmy.world/c/discordapp) How about stop making the stupid fucking theme thing appear EVERY fucking time I go to a new server? It's obnoxious.
