I'm not a programmer, so I can't really do it myself. Is it allowed for me to go to some random dude, pay him 20 bucks to write the code, then have him add it to the GitHub?
(If you're wondering what the app/feature is, I want to be able to shuffle play on the findroid app like you would be able to on the jellyfin web interface )
Not here on Lemmy, but I've definitely seen some examples in the last few days that made me a little uncomfortable in other places online.
I can sympathize with the desire to dehumanize him because as an individual he's completely reprehensible, but I just worry that the ease at which the dehumanization is happening that it's allowing fucked up people to slip in anti-semitic messaging among it and that it's helping solidify fucked up right wing bullshit views which are already running rampant.
Sorry if this is the wrong community for this, don't hesitate to remove the post, mods.
Iâm sure there are a few hurdles, but wondering what is the biggest reason that keeps us back at this moment as the most pressing thing. Is it that the technology just isnât there yet? Or is it because of legal complications, international treaties and all that? Is it just not financially feasible to do at this present time with the technology we do have? That we could do it, in theory, but the ROI is too low?
As an Asian American (Chinese Ancestry), I rarely have interactions with law enforcement, except that one school fight which I got arrested because I defended myself against a bully, which I still resent them for (both the law enforcement and school administration). This in a blue city btw. While the cops never physically done anything like torture or anything, getting held at the police station for a few hours felt like psychological torture. I was just wondering, would my experience have been worse if I were some other race? (I mean like: if I were black, would I have gotten beaten by the cops?)
And also, how (in general) are Asian Americans treated compared to other racial groups?
(Asking because, again, I rarely had any interactions with law enforcement, and am just curious)
Wouldn't be a bad idea to do space mining to create products on earth on the long therm?
Does not hose minerals have weight and could change earth net mass and therefore it's orbit?
Could also impacts on landing alter earth orbit?
This question arraised when reading this other question about mining in space from in this sub: [https://lemmy.world/post/24125154](What is currently holding us back from mining in space?)
Maybe it's something in UI, but many times I watch pictures (not even videos, they are their own can of worms), and want to save them, it shows me that I'm downloading them again although they are cached in whatever app I see them from.
I see it in high rez in my browser, I can zoom in, and I can't tell any difference from a copy that I can download, but it's still, well, another download if I want to save it, and not a move from cache to my download folder, another request to the server, another waste of traffic.
Is there some rule of sandboxing for everything you load that I don't know about? In cases like our fediverse, I wouldn't like to cause double load when I already have the picture I want. Can I cut it down with some plugin in mobile Firefox?
So I'm not sure if this is age related or not. I'm a 21 year old male, maybe you could share your age as well.
So basically for a long time (probably my whole life) I had this deep longing/fantasy to live at a different place than the one I'm living right now. As if I don't belong where I'm from and need to be somewhere else to truly feel home. I'm from northern Germany and always had the deep desire of traveling places.
When me and my family went on vacation when I was a kid for example when we flew to Egypt it felt like a wonderful dream as if I was in heaven or something. I just love when I'm in totally different environments like coming from the cold Germany into a tropically warm climate, in a country that is very different, with very different culture and mentality in this beautiful and gigantic hotel resort.
Idk how to describe it but it's like my core desire got fulfilled.
I never felt home here in Germany and my deep desire always was to live somewhere else where there i
By that I mean literally sucking up stuff. The vent fan above my stove only seems to actually pull anything in while it's on low; setting it to high makes it louder but stops pulling any smoke or steam up through the hood. I'm just curious how the hell that works; shouldn't a faster spinning fan suck MORE? Is there some property of aerodynamics that was forgotten when they installed this shit?
I saw a comment yesterday about how IT admins have to restrict the privileges of other developers on their machines and was surprised by knowing this. I simply thought that employees in the software industry were essentially at equal parity in terms of their departments, and that the admin department was there just to centralise all the work done by other departments and keep track of the status of their systems. I did not think there would be a need to apply childlocks on other employees' systems as I assumed that a person working at an industry like this would have basic computer literacy to know what is safe and permissible by company policy to execute and what is not.
This may come off as being too naive of me, but I genuinely want to understand how the hierarchy in such a company is actually like. I always thought of workspaces in the software industry to divide labour laterally and there would be no need for administrative powers apart from the management to exist, at least in
I'm glad this community is here because I feel very stupid. I've seen videos likening the fediverse to email and phone networks. Some of what I've seen implies that not only are lemmy instances connected but lemmy instances can also be connected with mastodon, peertube, and others. Is this true? How to I connect to other instances or even other platforms?
