  • "I have money in the bank that measures my value"

  • This. Everyone wants qualified, well paid teachers for their kids, just like how most people want universal healthcare. But our government and media structure actively disempowers any such movements in that direction. Ie "we can agree we all want these things but we can't agree on how"

  • And when the social sector lobbies it is called "special interests" by the press. When capital owners do it they are called "job creators" by the press. Edit: or so it goes in the states.

  • Revenue is not the same as value, teachers enable much more economic activity than athletes. The fact we equate "profit generated" to the value of the profession is part of the problem.

  • Was thinking about this in the context of a joke I heard in the late 90s:

What do you call 100 lawyers at the bottom of the sea? A good start.

We didn't we have jokes like that about the billionaires; at the time people were glazing Bill Gates. It's wild because billionaires are the ones writing the laws, lawyers just act it out.

  • Voting works, but it doesn't work if that's your only tactic.

  • Let's not even argue what "works better", we need a diversity of tactics and we need to take all the power available to us.

  • Ehh, collective violence is different from lone wolf violence and have very different outcomes. Also the vast majority of these lone wolves follow right-wing ideology so us being pushed further to fascism is arguably their goal.

  • More like billionaire pedophiles are a special class of people that get extra rights. All other mutants get the shaft.

  • Thing is, they need to bring their help and the help won't be happy if their families are left high and dry. These people are just too fucking stupid

  • Remember, every accusation is a confession. If you don't want to be a waste of time to be around then don't act like that's true of others.

  • Back in the day people would gather on a porch and play music. Relatively free. Wish I knew how to play an instrument ...

  • Here's the thing, if we keep doing politics that plays to people's stupidity rather than their ability to think independently then we might as well ditch democracy.

  • We don't know if the victim did nothing though, she talked to a detective for over 20 minutes and so far we have not seen any documents regarding that conversation. She could have even done more than you, but we should not expect her to even though that is the response of some victims, it is not a universal response.

  • Capitalism is when most people don't know the definition of capitalism:

an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit.

Which sounds a lot like oligarchy with a profit motive.

  • There are plenty of reasons to make up a story.

Like being targeted for harassment and possibly get murdered? This is not a typical rape accusation, it is made against someone who has been carrying out extra-judicial murders abroad.

And I bet she took great effort to gather evidence

This is classic rape apologetics. It is not the victim's job to collect evidence while they are distressed, that's the job of the investigators.

  • There's another report in the files where a woman did report her rape to the police and she was later found dead with her "head blown off". Under a functional justice system that would be thoroughly investigated, under our system it was quickly ruled a suicide because she took "bad cocaine".

These papers are being released because our justice system did not protect these victims. It is up to the public to ask questions and we need not presume innocence of the powerful as they failed to protect the vulnerable.

  • I mean chattel slavery requires rape at some point and the vast majority of the Founding Fathers were slave owners....

  • Not true, there are dozens of people who changed their mind, dozens!
