  • I switched to open source solutions because fuck’em,

Yep, same! It's gonna be a bit of a learning curve since I was with adobe for over 30 years, but meh, I have the time to learn my away around. Fuck Adobe!

  • Either way, you should not be getting banned for expressing an opinion.

Lemmy is definitely moving in this direction though. More often now, I’m seeing users banned simply for expressing opinions that aren’t popular on the platform, even when those opinions are presented thoughtfully and without inflammatory language.

It used to be that only people using extreme or aggressive language combined with the unpopular opinion would get banned. Now, even calm, reasoned arguments are being removed.

To be clear, I’m not defending or attacking OP. I don’t have a stance on their views.

What concerns me is the growing trend of blanket bans just because someone holds a different opinion. That kind of environment isn’t healthy for open discussion.

  • After Adobe announced yet another subscription price hike recently, I finally decided to walk away for good. I’ve used Adobe products for over 30 years; I was a professional graphic designer before I retired. But enough is enough.

Modern versions of Photoshop and Illustrator are cloud-locked and subscription-only, which makes them difficult to pirate or even just use offline. Older versions are still out there, but you have to dig through crack installers, run scripts to block network access, and constantly deal with system-level headaches, especially on a Mac. Maybe it’s easier on PC, but for me, it just wasn’t worth the time or risk.

And honestly, I’ve had enough of Adobe’s monopoly. I didn’t even feel like looking for a workaround.

So today, I switched to different software that does most of what I need. And I wiped every trace of Adobe from my system. No subscriptions. No lock-ins. From now on, if I’m going to pay for software, I want to own it. And it better run whether I’m online or not.

    Never again.

  • Love this graphic! Thank you!

  • Affinity is an excellent replacement for Photoshop, Illustrator, and Publisher.

I may have to finally make the switch. I've been using photoshop/illustrator for over 25 years now though...

It's gonna be damn hard to make the switch...

EDIT: Just now uninstalled all my Adobe software, canceled my Adobe subscriptions. Replaced with Affinity. :)

  • Thank you for this!

  • I didn’t know you could get shadowbanned on Lemmy.

I've def had the feeling that I've been shadowbanned from some places, but I don't know if it's something that's done on Lemmy or not.

I never really cared enough to look into it too deeply though.

  • The problem is that it only takes one person on Lemmy to say something is associated with Russia, and all of Lemmy pounces on it and will just keep saying it over and over. So now that this site has been associated with Russia, you're never going to win your argument--even if you're right. Lemmy's will just make shit up about it from now on.

I know, because someone decided to make up something and said I'm Russian, and that I get paid in "russian bitcoinz," (because I didn't vote for Harris or Trump) and to this day, people still say it. (I'm born, raised, live in USA by the way).

  • You guys rock. Like always.

  • Let's doooo it!

  • Yeah, I grew up on those days, and missed most of the computer revolution simply because my family couldn't afford any of it. I did have a rich friend that dabbled, so I got so see the edges of it, but I didn't get to dive in deep like a lot of people did in those days. I'm making up for it now, though!

  • Sacrilege! May your data streams be corrupted and your access to shared knowledge be denied!

I'm bound by honor to copy your statement and use it as my own, whenever and wherever I please! :)

  • Here's what the beauty looked like:

  • No worries, friend. I was scared you were part of the org that was charging for the article. I'll delete my snarky comment too! :)

  • Yep, I went down the rabbit hole all day yesterday. Decided that we have better, cheaper alternatives by just buying and hacking an older laptop.

  • It really was a fantastic idea, always hoped it would catch on but alas, the Chromebook took over in education spaces thanks to subsidies from Google for the data collection.

Yep. I do wish they would revisit the whole "water-resistant, rubber/plastic tought as a Tonka truck, drop-resistant, hand crank to charge-up" ideas though!
