Structural Biologist interested in Protein Design. I also write code.

  • Stop, stop, it's already dead.

At least, I can't find a job. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places, my family certainly seems to think I'm just not job searching hard enough or some nonsense. I suspect for any job liberal coded the whole permanent underclass meme is already here. I don't know what I'm gonna do if I can't find a job by the time my current contract is up. I'm not fool enough to dip into my savings for rent but the returns aren't sufficient to cover rent. Investments will cover food, so I won't starve.

Really looks like I might end up living under a bridge for a bit. Maybe I can look into homeless shelters. Maybe some sort of wagon or cart or a trike? Nah too abnormal in America. Something I can lock down, but also set up a tent at night. Maybe add some solar panels and a battery. I should've learned to drive when I was younger...

Anyway, don't get a STEM PhD or you might be facing homelessness.

  • Space is really, really big and the earth's radio wave hasn't hit all that many systems, so it's no surprise that no one has contacted us, but why we don't see the radio waves of the rest of the galaxy? Probably because we don't have the tech to pick up a signal. We can barely see that stars have planet around them -- I don't think we can pick up a faint signal from one of those planets as different from the background.

  • Both parties are billionaire rule, and America is not a democracy. AI and crypto lobbied both parties hard. There wasn't a chance either would side with the populous. Rather than voting by party -- as if that does anything in a gerrymanded system -- we should be voting for populous candidates who promise voting reform in the primary of whatever party your district is gerrymanded for. We should be reforming our local election systems to actually transition into electoral democracy (ranked voting, lottery option, recall mechanism, randomized districting).

There's not a single other issue worth spending political capital on until we're a democracy because it can all be easily undone.

  • I'm fond of the phrase "electoral oligarchy".

  • How can we claim consent of the governed when the governed cannot say no?

Electoral Democracy has four required mechanism: Ranked Voting, Lottery Option, Recall Mechanism, Randomized Districting. The United States does not qualify as a democracy. Few of the states, cities, and counties within it are even on the democratic spectrum with one of those mechanisms.

Happy 250th our government is illegitimate.
