  • It'd make more sense to compare this to the US overthrowing Hussein. There was no attempt at preserving plausible deniability or relying on deniable assets like they did with Cuba, they just went in and secured the objective.

    Though it still took them a few weeks to get Hussein. I don't know if that speaks to how much more powerful US surveillance and intelligence has become in the last 20 years or more to how unprepared Venezuela was for invasion, though.

    Really frightening. I hope Cuba is preparing itself for invasion, because they'll certainly do it again.

  • The US has been waging war since 2002 when it tried to coup Chavez. Obama continued it by hammering them with sanctions and naming Venezuela an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to U.S. national security. Trump continued it by recognizing the joke candidate Juan Guaidó and ramping up sanctions, Biden paused the sanctions pressure to get some prisoners released and then ramped it right up when they didn't elect the "correct" candidates, and now Trump isn't even pretending this has anything to do with human rights or elections or national security or any of that other bullshit. He's ripped the mask of and told everyone what America has always done. Every demon that this county elects thirst for oil and blood, same as it ever was.

    In short, death to America. Venezuela will break the back of this invasion and I spit on every piggy that serves in this demon country's army.

  • A 6 month old can be moved to a different caretaker, fairly easily.

    A fetus has to either be delivered or literally carved out of the host's body, and no one has a right to use anyone's body that way. Besides, if there were artificial wombs we'd probably simply end regular human pregnancy anyway.

  • You can't dismantle systems of oppression without liquidating the oppressors.

    We didn't end slavery by asking nicely, it took a civil war. Then, because we didn't kill every slave owner and seize all of their wealth, they just reconstituted themselves as landlords. They defeated Reconstruction, regained power, rehired all their old slaves back as sharecroppers, and the oppression continued. The old slave catchers just became police, and they rounded up Black people and then put them on chain-gangs to be slaves for the State. Even today we have prison slaves working the fields.

    If every slave owner was hanged and their family's wealth redistributed to their former slaves, none of this would have happened.

    If you don't oppress the oppressors they just come back and resume their oppression. You have enemies. Start acting like it.
