Aren't there ways to patch the whatever-it-is that is "required" by W11 that older PCs don't have so that you can bypass the check and have W11 on older machines? I feel like that's a better solution than paying for Microsoft's garbage, if one was bent on not moving to Linux
I fixed my issue by flashing the latest Beta BIOS for my motherboard. Took me almost a full day of troubleshooting and looking online and repeating the same steps over and over again, but then almost on a whim I decided on flashing the Beta BIOS (no mentions of virtualization in the changelog, so I didn't really have reaaons to) and now Android Studio finally simulates the Android device. Thanks for your help!
Oh, yeah, I got an error with the original command you wrote, so I ended up typing the correct one anyway, and that's what returned the message that I'm already part of that group.
So, just to make it clear, sudo adduser "<myusername>" kvm was the command I ended up using and that told me I'm already part of the group (I've been trying basically all solutions I could find online and I think one suggestion was to add myself to the group, so I may have already issued that command earlier today and I did restart several times between then and now)
I get the same exact error via Flatpak and "the user ... is already a member of kvm", unfortunately.
Thanks anyway!
Thanks a lot, appreciated. I think I'll try Flatpak Android Studio first, and move on to the suggestion of adding myself to the KVM group in case Flatpak install doesn't fix the issue. Thanks again!
Thanks for the reply and the testing. It's not via Flatpak (I figured it would be best not to, since Flatpak Gnome Boxes could not create a VM because of KVM issues, while Boxes installed via sudo apt install gnome-boxes gave me no error), but a simple tar extracted in desktop.
Since AMD Virtualization is Enabled in BIOS (although I can't toggle it) and Gnome Boxes can create a VM when installed via terminal, I don't think it's a BIOS or CPU problem (otherwise no version of Boxes would allow me to run a VM, but I did launch Arch btw from inside Boxes).
Am I wrong?
Thanks!
Noob at Linux: how to use Android Studio virtual device?
I'm trying to use Android Studio, but the virtual android doesn't start because of KVM error. Tinkering around with another VM application I understood that it's a location/permission issue (flatpak Gnome Boxes had the same issue, couldn't load KVM, but Boxes installed via terminal worked and I could start a VM).
On the official Android Studio website they suggest extracting the tar.zip in /usr/local but the system doesn't allow me to, so I extacted it on the desktop and the app runs, but I get a "/dev/kvm is not found" error, which should be because of the location I'm running Android Studio from.
So, should I just sudo force move the folder of Android Studio from desktop to /usr/local or is there a better way to do it?
PoP_OS just in case it can be useful to know.
Thanks in advance!
edit: fixed it by updating BIOS to latest Beta. Can't believe it was a bug in the version I was running and no one else catched it, since Beta changelog didn't mention it.
Apparently PoP! doesn't support Secure Boot. No idea why the system still runs and works apart from loading nVidia drivers though
Issue found: I disabled secure boot from BIOS and now I can change resolution and refresh rate. Thanks for the help!

Checked it just now and yes it's properly seated. Checked power cables too and those are good as well. Cleared CMOS and now display defaults to 1024*768 resolution with no way to change it lol
Upgraded the CPU and now have GPU problems... any help?
I went from a 2600x to a 5600 (yes, MoBo is compatible after BIOS update) and now for some reasons I get 1FPS in games and monitor is not really detected (resolution is fine, but I can't change refresh rate and in "color" settings it's shown as "None-1 Monitor").
I tried:
- monitor factory reset;
- updating GPU drivers (was already running latest);
- removing and purging GPU drivers (sudo apt remove ~nnvidia and sudo apt-get purge nvidia*) and reinstalling (sudo apt install pop-desktop system76-driver-nvidia);
- resetting RAM speed to factory (2400Mhz).
Still nothing.
As you can guess from the commands, I'm running PoP!_OS and a nVidia GPU.
What else can I try?
Thanks in advance!
Issue found: I disabled secure boot from BIOS and now I can change resolution and refresh rate. Since I updated BIOS just before installing the new CPU it went under the radar
Those are windows not W*ndows
Oh, no I haven't tried pushing the PS button, thanks for the tip! I'll try it
Thanks. I did try just PnP but it wouldn't work. Could it be because Steam was running? I'll have to try again after closing Steam
Bad word
How would I use a DS4 (wired) on Linux to play old games on RetroArch?
On W\*ndows I used DS4Wind\*ws, and I have no issues with Steam, but how can I use it to play with RetoArch and Lutris?
Is DS4DRV the way?
That's a long guide! Thanks for now, I'll check it out as soon as I can!
Is there anything specific to do to make Mod Organizer work properly via Lutris?
I'm using the latest WineGE (8.26, I think) to launch MO 2.4 but some parts don't work properly, namely activating/deactivating mods (when I click on the checkbox, MO just freezes), launching the game (when I launch the game MO doesn't do anything, only when I close MO it says "something VFS" and the game starts) and actually closing it (when I do, Lutris still says that it is running, and I have to click on "Stop" in Lutris to actually make it stop).
Am I missing aomething?
I'm on PoP!_OS. Thanks!
Currently using 12GB for system and 9GB for apps, then I have 30GB for music + documents + backups (that I mirror on PC) since I never stream anything, so 64GB would be a bit too tight for me haha
I keep the bare minimum on my phone (something to read, music) and use very few apps, so 64GB could be enough for me, but I have other requirements for my phone and those often collide with storage so I never find anything with less than 128GB.
I keep backups on my PC, and that's where I funnel my funds for storage lol
Teach me your ways. I don't have a very new model, I think it's a 4130e or something. Do you use CUPS?
My issue lies elsewhere, it takes me that long to have the printer recognized by the OS, then by CUPS browser, then I send the printing job and... it just stalls, never prints. I then cycle the USB ports and start all over again until it miraculously prints
I have a HP printer and printing is never a smooth process. No idea why, but it takes me 5/10 minutes each time
Bought a couple of Exos 7E10 8TB drives, warranty status says "initially sold as part of a larger system, contact seller". It means I can't take advantage of their five years warranty, doesn't it?
I admit they were way too cheap for what they are (like 15% cheaper than same-size Ironwolf), so I gambled it haha there were no indications that these drives were OEM or similar.
Back to issue at hand: since I can't personally have the five years warranty on these, only the original purchaser can, and I have no way to know who they are and when they bought them, I should just return them, right? And maybe buy the next ones only from authorized sellers?
edit: also, now that I think about it, and before I make the same mistake twice, there's no way I can get enterprise drives as a normal consumer, can I, at least not brand new? I expect any enterprise drives I can find will have the same issue, i.e. bought by someone else for servers or similar, and then resold, correct?
edit 2: actually WD sells enterprise drives on their website, so my previous assumption about it was wrong
NAS build, what's wrong with it?
I want to setup a NAS (mainly for storing games and videos), that I'd also like to use to watch said videos on a WiFi TV and to install games on a separate PC connected via ethernet. This is the part list I came up with (plus whatever GPU I can get for as cheap as possible, I can probably get a GT 730 GTX750 for free). I also don't need it to be on 24/7, if that's OK. I can place it in the same room as my main PC and hook it up to the same monitor to turn it on and start it up.
What's wrong with it?

PCPP says that R3 3100 isn't compatible with the RAM I picked (although I can't find why); it also says MoBo doesn't support ECC RAM, but on the producer's website it says it does (https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/A520M-ITXac/index.asp#Specification) , so I think PCPP is wrong.
I tried building around LGA 1150/1151 but motherboard prices are way higher (although CPU prices are lower).
I don't think I can make it much cheaper than this, since I'm buying everything, but if you can point me in a cheaper direction, feel free to do so!
Thanks in advance
